  2. Quick update. Thanks in no small part to the help and advice of members here, I picked up my new green/tan LC Convertible yesterday with my desired wheels. I'm no photographer but the pic below gives an indication despite dank conditions. I'm told it's a 1/1 in the UK and Europe due to the wheels and it even has the bespoke build badge. It really is a lovely thing and I couldn't be happier so far!

  3. As you’re leasing then the residual won’t be of any concern - if your primarily doing only 150 miles a week then range isn’t a concern. Will you have a home charger - if so, then the RZ will be a great car providing the lease payments are competitive. The recent software update (which a new car will have) have improved the range drop in using the ac / heating so a lot of the early reviews and particularly the What Car review are not as relevant. As a buyer rather than a leaser’ I very much regret getting an EV when I did - I wouldn’t if getting one now ! If you keep to about 60 - 65 on a motorway you may squeeze 200 miles without a charging stop. Charging is fairly rapid, actual world on a 150kw charger really is less than 30 minutes from 20% to 80%. You’ll read a lot about cars having say 250kw charge capacity but the overall average over a charge is always far below that so the actual time saved is say maybe 10 mins. For your mileage I would say if you want to go full EV (no doubt tax will be a major consideration on a company car) then the RZ would be a good car.

  4. New car day today! Usual exemplary handover by Lexus Edinburgh. Fully charged, full tank of fuel and TWO KEYS! 🔑 😁. Second key issued in a presentation case! Rubber floor mats no longer part of the optional protection pack but Lexus Edinburgh added these. Mud flaps still unavailable so these will be fitted once they are back in stock along with locking wheel bolts.

  5. This underfunding is the answer to every failing institution in this country! As someone who knows personally about the police service, it started to deteriorate in 1997, when the name change happened. Force, to Service, and the whole political correctness and wokeism began. The officers today are a different breed to years ago, they no longer get support from senior officers and even colleagues they work with, all to eager to stab each other in the back, in pursuit of being cleansed Some even join the job, and then realise they have to work nights, and refuse, hence, no police on the streets at night to see the one eyed RX! We have become a mamby pamby country, with a soft belly that anyone in the world can take advantage of! Rant over, carry on !!!!!

  6. A quick update to say that the car arrived and collected. It’s lovely and enjoyable to drive. Much more fun than previous one (UX) and I should say technology/gadgets improved a lot since 2020 when I bought UX.

  8. Well, the 250 passed its first MOT in my possession today with no advisories, so I'm a happy bunny! Got the garage to change the filter and oil [supplied by me] while she was up in the air, I'm getting too old to be lying in the road under cars now....

  9. Bus is a computing term meaning a shared communication path between components, essentially via copper wires either within a system or allowing multiple systems to communicate with each other. CAN is an acronym for controller area network (hence why it is written in capital letters) - it is the specific protocol, or language, that is sent over the bus - like humans, two items communicating need a common language to understand each other. Within the auto industry there are many different protocols used. Toyota/Lexus commonly use CAN, LIN, AVC-LAN and MOST. The reason for using buses rather than discrete wiring is to save cost and allow more sophisticated features. Take the rear light clusters, (Toyota don't typically use CAN for rear lights but just as an example) - traditionally you have multiple wires, one for each function: rear light, brake, left indicator, right indicator, reverse and fog. That's 6 controls wires + ground. If you had sequential indicators you need two more wires for sequential mode rather than standard on/off required for hazard, so a total of 9 wires. If you had CAN controlled light clusters you can reduce to just 4 - +12v, ground and two CAN wires. If you want your mirrors to drop when in reverse, rather than a signal wire going to the mirror ECU, it can just listen for the reverse communication without needing any additional wires. If you take it to the extreme, where modern matrix headlights are made up of 1,000+ individual LEDs that each can be controlled individually to block out the beam to oncoming traffic then that wouldn't be economically possible or reliable using discrete wiring.

  10. A neighbour of mine tells the story of how he was recently pulled over and breathalysed (with a negative result) by police who didn't believe he had been swerving in order to avoid potholes and the occasional loose kerbstone on a road near where we live. Driving back along the same stretch an hour later, and suppressing his instinct to honk and wave in recognition, he saw, to his joy and delight, the same two policemen replacing what looked like a burst tyre on their car.

  11. I asked on the Lexus mag forum about the vulnerability of the IS 300h to CANbus vulnerability through the headlights as it wasn't in the list of cars due for any retrofit, both for my current 2014 model (which shouldn't be vulnerable) and if I purchased a post face-lift 2017 model (which I thought might be) - this is the reply they posted: Hello Phil, Thanks for your question. Your current IS 300h is not impacted as the technology that enables CAN bus theft isn’t in those vehicles. While no car can be considered 100% immune to criminal intent, our Product Technical team have also advised that the IS 300h from October 2016 to September 2020 Production is not affected by CAN bus theft due to the platform of the vehicle. We hope this helps. Thanks.

  12. Will shortly be joining this section of the LOC as I am scheduled to take delivery of a RX450h+ Premium Plus with panoramic roof next week. Currently have a 2022 NX450h+ Premium Plus with sunroof which in turn replaced a NX300h Luxury with panoramic roof. Have gone for Sonic Platinum with Ammonite Sand interior. Didn't particularly set out to go for the RX450h as I was actually considering a NX450h+ F-sport for the second half of this year, however I sat in an RX450h + in the showroom, was given a test drive and I was smitten! Look forward to future conversations and will post some pics!

  13. Jobs planned for over the Easter weekend: Fit new washer level sensor - purchased from Amayama - maybe the sensor is sticking or something but it's getting a new one. Fit new drivers door check assembly - purchased from Amayama - the arm is split on the body side where it fastens with the pin. Oil and filter change Check all front suspension and make sure all is tight and nothing slightly loose - car has developed some suspension noise over speed bumps. And then the biggy and most important...........................check if the transmission fluid cooler is built into the radiator or is separate and take pictures🙂

  14. Lots of interesting views on this thread, it does show how different drivers have different priorities and opinions. I looked at the new CH-R, Yaris Cross, and LBX yesterday and back to back (to back!). There was also a UX in the Lexus showroom. For me, the LBX feels like a higher quality car than the UX. That’s mostly about perception, and it is a newer model, but for me the interior is ‘proper Lexus’ whereas the UX has never been quite there in my opinion. Seeing them both side by side yesterday reinforced that for me. The Yaris Cross felt good. I like the higher seating position, and it’s a practical thing for the size. The downside was it felt a bit ‘tinny’ and there were harder plastics in areas such as the door tops where the others are softer. The LBX was at the other end of the spectrum and I was impressed. The boot was larger than I’d have imagined, and the rear space, although tight, allows feet to go under the front seats quite easily. Rear space isn’t important for me tbh, but it was interesting that it felt quite spacious, albeit not as much as the Yaris where the greater glass area made it feel brighter inside. The CH-R felt like a high quality product, and is bigger than both. I wasn’t a massive fan of the dashboard layout - it seemed to be form over function when compared with the other two - but as with all things you get used to things you use every day. Next step is to drive all three and see if, actually how readily, I can live with the downsize from an RX. Price is also a consideration. Broadly, based on discussions with the dealers and for comparable (top ish) specs and with indicated discounts factored in, it would be about £29k for the Yaris (AWD), £34k for the CH-R (FWD) and almost £40k for the LBX. I still feel like the LBX is overpriced in comparison despite clearly being a lovely thing. The question will be whether I think it’s worth it vs other priorities. I’m also looking at and driving a Mazda CX-30 on Tuesday for a further option.

  15. Well after a month of ownership I’ve decided that bought wisely (and with the help of my Forum Friends) these are incredible value for money. Pound for pound smiles I don’t think they can be beaten. I wanted a car that made me want to drive anywhere and everywhere …… not just to get from A to B but to enjoy the experience of getting there. Im one very happy SC430 owner.

  19. Possibly my last post on this section of the LOC. Have decided to change my NX 450h+ for a RX 450h+ which arrived at the dealership yesterday. Wasn't really planning to change until the NX was 3 years old however a couple of hours in the showroom and a test drive won me over and I will take delivery of what will be my third new Lexus in 6 years. Hope that it is every bit as good as the previous NX's! As always Lexus Edinburgh and in particular Stuart Wilson have been a delight to deal with every step of the way.

  21. I'm not really talking about individual dealer standards, more about Lexus as a brand and head office policies that the dealerships need to follow. I think it was back in 2001 when I first purchased an approved used Lexus. Back then an independent RAC inspection had to be performed which found every stone chip and mark that had to be correctly before it could be sold, alloys refurbs, the next service carried out, tyres with minimum of 4mm or possibly 6mm of thread, full Lexus service history etc. Now an official used vehicle may not have full Lexus service history, it won't have the next service carried out unless it is due within 2,000 miles, bodywork damage is down to private negotiation with the typical attitude that it's a used car so there will be some stone chips, scratches and wheel scuffs. Recalls once came with a bottle of Champagne as a sorry for inconvenience, now you might get some fuel if the dealer doesn't pocket that money (several people have posted here they have not received any fuel). The move to centralised PDIs where cars are now handed over with over inflated tyres due to a lack of attention to detail. Used warranties that over the years cover less and less, and owners having to fight harder to get things replaced - now with the attitude of having to wait for something that is clearly failing to get so severe that it causes a breakdown or MOT failure. The Relax warranty might be 'free' but in reality the servicing costs have increased substantially above inflation over years and the warranty dumbed down that you are paying for it, and with no advanced warranty available for people who want the additional cover. Dealers reluctant to perform warranty work because head office won't pay them enough - the dealer is more profitable doing customer work and therefore prioritises it. Major security vulnerabilities across multiple vehicles but with a very slow, inadequate response that only address a fraction of the vehicles affected. GS F delaminating interior carbon trim pieces that Lexus in the UK blame on the owners and pretend it isn't a common issue, rather than acknowledging there is an issue affecting one of their most expensive vehicles - and where Lexus in the US replace them under warranty.

  22. I used to have a RX with the ML system and I wasn’t disappointed at all when I heard that the NX F-Sport didn’t have the option of the ML system. Once set up the I find the standard system sounds just as good as the ML. TBH I never rated the ML system, I think it just a selling point used by Lexus salespeople. To be frank i’d never heard of ML before owning a Lexus

  23. Well my friends I have just got back from seeing Tim master tec at Lexus Gatwick who has inspected the car and all looks normal so a miracle must have happened. The pothole in question has been coned off so at least i achieved something last night, the prevention of a serious injury or death to a fellow driver but more importantly a motorbike rider who no doubt would have been killed thanks guys for your support 😊

  24. Does it sound like the UFO noise when a car was featured in the puppet show? Yes, it's most likely the Warning noise as mentioned. Mine stops around 15mph I think. I hear my wife coming home from about 100 yards away as her Yaris also creates this noise. It gives me chance to look busy when she arrives!

  25. I had a visit from the local PCSO a couple of nights ago, who was checking on a nearby car theft. Came inside and gave me an update on car security measures for our on the drive parked CT, of which to be fair I am pretty much up to speed on. The main points being the crook/disc lock being a worthwhile addition, Faraday pouch for the smart locking key fobs etc and the added deterrent of having my Catloc fitted. I said I had mixed feelings about the Faraday pouch, as I had to consider my preference to waking up in the morning after a sound nights sleep to find the car gone. Or waking up in the middle of the night to find someone breaking into the house to get the keys 😆. Even so he gifted me a Faraday pouch before leaving lol! The real bonus though, he also gifted me a Smart Water kit and window stickers and registered the Ct on the Smart Water traceable vehicle site. Apparently the Chop Shops have made it clear that Smart water treated cars will not be accepted from car thieves, as any treated parts found on premises are now resulting in an over 85% prosecution success rate. I already have put the smart water stickers on next to the Catloc stickers, and will start applying the smart water on various parts/places when the weather is a bit nicer. 😉

  26. I have just taken delivery of a brand new UX250H Sport Design. After reading several positive reviews about the new Lexus LBX I was interested in purchasing this vehicle subject to a test drive. Three weeks ago I was informed by my local Lexus dealership that a LBX Takumi was available for a test drive. I had narrowed my choice down to two cars, the LBX and the UX250H sport design. I was currently driving a RX450H which is a fantastic quiet refined vehicle, but rather large for just my wife and I. We arrived at the local Lexus dealership in order to test drive the LBX and UX vehicles back to back. Firstly we drove the UX 250h sport, we were both pleasantly surprised how comfortable and easy to drive the vehicle was, manoeuvrability excellent, road noise not to intrusive, and a big bonus - (no horrible beeping noises if you are travelling above the speed limit). We then drove the LBX Takumi, and I must say that we were both a little disappointed with the drive, the suspension seemed to be on the firm side, and the power delivery was not as smooth as the UX250H, also we found the seats to be uncomfortable. My wife and I both agreed that that UX 250H was the car for us. We managed to negotiate a very good price for the UX250H Sport Design, Lexus are trying to sell-off the old stock of the UX before the newer model arrives (UX300H). Having driven the UX over the past few days I am absolutely delighted with the car, on short journeys the car is averaging nearly 50mpg. Please see attached pictures.

  29. Tax savings for company cars, and salary sacrifice schemes, means that new EVs are relatively cheap - but with leases typically only being 2 to 3 years in duration means these soon come onto the used car market and private buyers aren't purchasing them at the same rate - hence values have dropped. But having said that the number for sale is not disproportionate. Last year the market share for EVs was 19.7% of all new car sales. Autotrader currently has 18.8% EVs for sale out of all the 2023 cars listed.

  30. I've been looking into this, I believe the Lexus list of affected models is correct and therefore the RC F isn't vulnerable - it is different to the RC. Whilst it does have CAN bus connected headlights, they are on a different CAN bus from the Smart Key/Certification ECU and therefore you cannot inject signals to fool it into thinking the key has unlocked the vehicle. Some initial thinking was there was a vulnerability on either the body ECU or gateway ECU which is allowing communication between two buses but all the listed affected vehicles have the headlight ECU directly connected to the same bus as the vehicle's Smart Key/Certification ECU which then unlocks the doors and communicates with the security ECU to turn off the alarm. Certainly this is the case up to MY18 models, I've not seen diagrams for MY19 onwards yet but I doubt it was changed.

  31. Like Ken R, I too am changing my 2 year old NX450h+ Premium Plus, but I'm staying with the NX, same model just a different colour - so the neighbours know I've got a new car 😁 I only went in because I got a puncture!!! 😁 Swapping Sonic Grey with Red interior for a Sonic Titanium with black interior I did look at the RX but it is too big for our needs. I pick my car up tomorrow, it's been in the UK since 6th March and I could have had it at the beginning of this week, but had other things to attend to.

  32. Car collected yesterday afternoon. A far better experience all round this time (salesman, car & paperwork all ready). They have a 'handover specialist' now who helped me set everything up on the multimedia stuff. So far, no issues with profile not been recognised or anything. 😁 I guess last time (March 2022) we were all learning together as the car was still a new model and the salesman didn't have much of a clue.

  36. No they haven't. For older vehicles they are installing trackers and immobilisers and newer ones have updated firmware in the main body ECU to detect hacks - that isn't anything like implementing encryption across the entire CAN bus.

  37. So how did we go from Insurance companies to Banks? Look I expect this level of naivety and lack of understanding of commerce from some people. I just did not expect to find it here amongst people who are equipped to find themselves behind the wheel of a Lexus. I shall refrain from further participation .

  40. Just got my GS back from it's annual service and MOT, 7 years old now but still looks and drives beautifully. Total clean sheet from Lexus, no advisories at all. Thought I'd treat her to a full detail to celebrate. Kudos to Lexus Hedge End for their usual spot on service. I was just thinking, what else could you buy now in the Lexus range (excluding LC/RC-F) that can rival the comfort, power and economy of this GS ? It's a keeper for sure! Dave.

  41. Ok forum, I can report that NFU have just offered me a premium of 524 Pounds for an LBG Premium Design Plus. Not been able to receive anything from anyone else…( except LMI ) .as the underwriter tables are not populated. But this beats the LMI quote of 838 Pounds…..so if I proceed with purchase I will most likely use NFU.

Worked out at 2.9miles/kwh which I thought was good for this car in these conditions. On a previous trip from the Reading area a couple of weeks before in better conditions again mostly motorway I got 3.2miles/kwh. Since the update I have also been getting up to 3.5miles/kwh from local driving which I got nowhere near before so overall pleased with the update which has made a significant difference.

  49. I believe you need to find out if the pothole has been reported previously - if so then if there is any damage to your car you have a stronger claim against the council. If you can get photos then get those along with some reference for size and depth. As the police are there get their details and maybe a statement from them. Personally I would get Lexus to check the car having explained what happened and have a 4 wheel alignment check done and then see what you need to do to make sure the car is sorted and see how and what you can then claim off the council sending details, photos and police report/details. If the pothole was previously reported and they start denying liability I would think a solicitor may be able to apply more leverage. I try and report local potholes for just this reason. The council keep saying they do not need repairing but as I've logged them if I or anyone gets damage there is a stronger case.
