  1. Hmm... I thought that, but it says you can re-coat after 20 minutes. ← Not everything does 'what is says on the tin' :D ← Ain't that the truth...
  2. Hmm... I thought that, but it says you can re-coat after 20 minutes.
  3. It was bone dry and wire brushed... Surely hammerite isn't really good for hot calipers... I found it discoloured on track days...
  4. I painted a caliper recently (luckily not one I need right now)... I used Halfords Brake Caliper Paint.... anyone used this?... what did I do wrong... I painted about 2 coats within 1 hour... but it has got air bubles in the paint and left pits... also it was still VERY soft after 24 hours, so I put it in the oven at 125C for 2 hours... and left it another week... it's STILL soft!... what is going on... I need to sand it down and try again, mabe with a spray gun... but it says it should be fully cured in 12 hours!... I can't really do anything with it because it's too soft, and it says not to re-coat for 6 weeks... I'm really irritated... good thing I'm not waiting to put it back on the car...
  5. OK... OOoooh, you're gonna be cringing all evening now,.. I've got to tell you, you asked for it... haha. It's more or less a custom hotrod I'm planning to build using Triumph Herald as a starting point..... I've got a IS200 rear subframe, because lets face it, I'm not gonna get 300HP through the standard transmission... LOL. Now, my issue is that the rear track of the lexus is some 10 inches wider than the Herald.... so there's gonna have to be some interesting messing about.... hence I need a set of the right size wheels to offer up... before I go fabricating things that won't fit. Ideally I want 16" rims, not 17... And can somone tell me what width they are?...
  6. Actually... does anyone know if 16" rims would fit over the rear brakes...
  7. Hi, Does anyone here know what the offset of the standard IS200 wheels is... is it the same front and rear? Does anyone have, or know of someone selling 2 standard wheels (rear if they are different)... condition unimportant, ideally bald and scratched to hell because it'd be better if it's cheap, but W.H.Y. Why?... well, best not ask Eh, coz I'll have people telling me it's unholy... ROFLOL. Cheers.
  8. OK that's good, so as long as I keep the differential mounting points, I should be able to change things around later once the thing is up and running... I have a Torsen diff on the Mazda... :) I believe I should be able to shorten (or at least have shortened) the half shafts... If you don't mind me asking, what mods have you got to handle 600Bhp?? That's gotta be quite a machine!... I will be at JAE with my RX, so perhaps we can have a chat. ← You can get the is200 sport differential/subframe for an easy start, this comes equiped with a Torsen © Differential unit, however there are quite a few aftermarket differential units that can be got for around 500 quid which are far far better, like TRD or Cusco or as i have KAAZ which can be either 1.5 or 2 way lock up units. you should be able to narrow the rear subframe, however the problem will be the drive(half shafts) will also need shortening. there are also lower, and higher final drive gear ratios available by chopping and changing from Manual to Auto final drive ratios ←
  9. Wow, that was quick... and a better answer than I had hoped for... I still have to narrow it by about 3 inches each side, which could prove to be a challenge... or flare the arches more than I had planned... :thinks: OK, one other question... I am guessing that the manual diff will be the better to go for from a final drive ratio point of view... is there a difference between the strength and/or LSD on the different models? Should I look for a sportcross or somthing?
  10. OK, I have this terrible feeling that I'm about to get flamed... but I'd really appreciate some constructive comments here. I'm building a little hotrod for a project, and I am looking for a reasonably small RWD car with a sensible amount of power to lift the rear suspention and differential from.... There seem to be a decent array of IS200/300 cars around in post crash condition that might suit, but what I don't know is what type of rear suspention they use... can someone tell me what it is, IE, trailing arm, multilink, double wishbone etc... or do I have to confuse somone at a Lexus dealer. Also, does anyone have any opinion on the diff and rear transmission... is it different between different models... is it going to be up to 300+Bhp?? the target vehicle will weigh less than 1000Kg. Generally any comments or suggestions appreciated... and photographs of the setup would be stunning!
