  1. Just get one of of eBay (This is what I did for both my GS and RX) that both have 2015 discs in them now :) There are many users in Eastern Europe who buy the whole set but have no use for Western Europe/UK so sell the discs off. Just be careful with the feedback scores and you should be fine.
  2. You have pressed AND HELD the button for 2.5 seconds to activate the power tailgate haven't you? A short press (like unlocking the doors wont do it - has to be a long press)
  3. You're right - Sorry.... I thought IF they were fitted then they had to be functional for the MOT but they don't
  4. My understanding is providing you have had your services done within the main dealer network they are able to reconstitute your entire service history. Additionally, I belive they can supply a duplicate book and stamps for all sevices completed. Someone on here should be able to verify that. Mind you.... being Lexus, they will probably charge £2,500 as 'admin' charges
  5. You're right, it won't help with the camera unfortunately but it makes a big difference on seeing out the back/side mirrors. Yes, the switch on the rear view mirroe does turn off both the rear view and door mirror dimming - Only trouble is it defaults back to on again net time you start up your car but no big deal. I have reversing sensors as well so that gives a bit of extra security Give the dimming option a try - I think you'll find it a help
  6. Huge long topic and I need a lay down now after reading all the way through it I agree that the reversing lights on the RX are like having candles in the tailgate and because of the privacy glass in the rear backing up is not easy but........ Have you guys tried switching off your auto dimming mirrors (not dipping but dimming) before reversing..... makes a huge difference of being able to see what's behind you verses just reversing and hope for the best and pray you don't get a crunch sound !!
  7. Bet that quoted 250 is with EVERYTHING in the car switched off !! And what about the heat in California???..... Thing A/C will take WAYYYY more power than a heater!
  8. You are: 1. Unlocking the doors first (by pressing the 'Unlock' button on the remote)...then.... 2. Pressing and holding the 'Pwr Door' button on the remote for around 1.5 seconds until you hear the beep from the vehicle? Failure to follow the procedure above will not activate the power door function.
  9. Quote .......Just be aware that, strictly speaking, it's illegal to attach [suction-mounted] devices to wipe area...... So, in that case....99.9999% of every TomTom user is breaking the law? Some of the places that idiots put their GPS units is laughable. Many of them could be called a 'Heads Up display' since they are directly in their line of sight out the windscreen! However, not to go off topic here we are talking about cameras. Since the enforcement of people chatting on mobile phones whilst driving is non existant and also not complying with having a hands free unit fitted (no, talking on your speaker phone on your mobile DOES NOT constitute Hands free) I wouldn't worry!
  10. This has been the case for many years. The americans have realised that Lexus is actually a better automobile than the German marques and have quite rightly given the brand the recognition and class it deserves. Unfortunately in the UK, we are still anal about having something made in Germany, and if you do not have a Germanic sticker on your bonnet then you haven't really 'made it' in life mentality. It's a bit like the brits still bang on about cars with auto gearboxes are 'not really driving' etc etc. We may catch the rest of the world up one day but for now we remain 'Third World'
  11. You're fighting a bit of a losing battle over here because the tree hugging nanny state brigade in the UK have outlawed glass cleaners with amonia which work the best. The off the shelf rubbish which is sold with vinegar and lemon juice etc are all pretty rubbish (compared with ones with amonia). Your best option would be to clean the inside as best you can with an off the shelf product to get the worst off. Then get some methelated spirits and clean the inside with that. This will get rid of any film that remains and will evapourate quickly. You can also use meths on the outside of the windscreen etc for excellent results.
  12. My son-in-law has a machine polisher, I'm sure that he will let me borrow it so I will give it a go. Any particular polish that you would recommend. I must be honest, I didn't realise that there were differing grades of polish. Thank you for your help. As long as it isnt one of those 12v cigarette lighter jobbies from Hell-Frauds - They do not have the power to scare the skin off a rice pudding. Also, it needs to be a random orbital polisher to save yourself burning a hole in the paintwork (unless you are skilled with a true orbital). The polishes I use are Sonus SFX 1, 2 and 3 (final finish) to end with. Be warned though - once you start it will look so good you might want to do yor entire car !!
  13. The only thing that will get rid of this totally is a machine polisher (preferably used with 3 different grades of polish starting from the harshest working down to the finest). It's easy enough to do but if you do not feel confident then your best bet is a bodyshop.
  14. Quote from mcleish ".......... Concern is, there may be a new law introduced about dash board warning lights being on during a MOT results in a fail !!!!......." There already is !! (or it's due in next month) as far as I'm aware - Any Engine warning light illuminated (including TPSM lights) means MOT fail. I'm sure someone will be along shortly with first hand knowledge to confirm (or deny) this. The Ed
  15. It's called 'Let's rip off the public and see what we can get away with!' If they can ramp the price up by 10,000 times who are the ones that are laughing? If you buy these direct from Enercell in packs of 1,000 the last time I checked it worked out around 3p a battery ! don't forget the manufacturer is making a profit on 3p per battery as well. Lexus or Toyota or BMW or whoever will be buying many more than a 1,000 at a time so would negotiate the price down accordingly. I doubt very much if they are paying more than a penny a battery.
  16. Get them from Fleabay as well - couple of quid for 5 (or even 10 !)of them and free postage. They are fine, been using them for years and never given any problems. Try here http://stores.ebay.c...d=p4634.c0.m322 have used this guy before and he's very quick at sending them out to you. Cheers
  17. Which now means you would fail the MOT - remember to put it back in before going for the pointless inspection!
  18. How do you know this settled for millions unless you are party to the confidentiality agreement? Toyota have not disclosed the amount nor have the plaintiffs. This was purely settled pre trial to keep it out of the courtroom. There has been no disclosure on quantum or settlement terms! You are assuming that it has settled for a 7 figure sum based on wrongful death case of a state trooper previously. Of the thousands of lawsuits out there many have now been consolidated into a class action. There will be numerous contributing factors on each of these cases. Some will die before they get to settlement and have no living relatives = Zero payout Some will be thrown out due to technicalities = Zero payout Some will be fraudulent = Zero Payout Some will be structured via an annuity and plaintiff will die prior to calculated medical costs accruing Some will take a lesser sum now rather than run the risk of going to trial in a volatile state Some will take a lesser some rather than wait for a trail date that could be set years from now. (Indeed this recent one has taken three years) Yes SOME will settle for 7 figures but what I am saying is the AVERAGE payout given the number of potential claimants will not be that great. To say that it will be a few million dollars per settlement I think is a little pessimistic but everyone is entitled to their own opinion :) I am simply giving my views based on my experience on cases like this and others a lot larger. (Toxic Shock, Asbestos, Pollution, EPA clean-up costs and a plethora of Health Hazard and Pollution litigation cases), eg Bristol Myers, Dow Corning, Shell, BP, Sherwin Williams, Amtrak etc all of which have been involved (and still are) in defence cases that have been going on for decades. This will be contained for a 'reasonable' sum and there will be no second or third generation exposure or manifestation cases to deal with as there have been with drug, pollution and other product liability issues Just my two pennyworth.!! All the best.
  19. Yes but as expected Toyota have just thrown money at this (well, they have been told to) to avoid trial. It never made it to the courtroom and a jury!
  20. .............. Der, der, deeeerrrrrrrrr (Lots of Dolby Digital 7.1 echo)... <Long Pause>....... "FRANKENCAR" !!!!! <Distant scream> then over the top Vincent Price like laugh...........................
  21. Phew.... ok lots to answer here. My point about California is they HAVE avoided a trial there! By settling pre trial thay have avoided an adverse jury verdict and possible punative damages which are allowable and can be awarded in all but 5 states in the US. Toyota ARE covered by some of the Lloyds syndicates. Mostly the primary and lower excess layers (under $500 million), US domestic markets take the brunt of their property cover with their liability in the higher layers covered by the likes of Chubb, Travelers etc and heavily reinsured back into London. Toyota have a self insured retention (excess) but anything like this where litigation is involved they would not be allowed to control themselves. Even though they have in-house counsel, the shots would be called by their insurers to limit liability. Lloyds doesn't actually insure (or reinsure) anybody, it is simply a marketplace where individual syndicates will insure (or reinsure) a proportion of a risk. Each insurer is only responsible for their particular proportion of a risk on a policy - for example, if a policy was written for $100million and a syndicate wrote 10% they would only be on the hook for $10 million in the event of a total loss (less reinstatement etc). I can't say too much more as you have probably guessed I'm heavily involved with the industry!!!!
  22. Not quite sure where you get your Billion Dollar figure from? This was an out of court settlement prior to trial (as many of them are). If a billion dollars was being claimed then you can be damn sure that this would have gone all the way through the US court system up to US supreme court. This was a simple case settled at mediation (it never even made it into a court room). Toyota would have thrown some money at this (possibly seven figures to extinguish it). What will be more worrying for Toyota (and more rigourously defended) will be the class action that is currently out there at present. Got it from here http://www.marke****...=MW_latest_news Ahhhh..... this is one of the class actions (still not ratified as yet - so not final). Allegedly there could be 16 million reciepients out of the pot so Toyota have got out for around $750 bucks a pop! The settlement will not have to be paid in one hit, it will be structured over several years (depending on pre tax profits). Although the article says it will be levied against earnings this quarter - it won't be. Also, Toyota have been in discussions with their PL Insurers and although no liability will attach (legally) there will possibly be a contribution form their liability carriers in defence of these claims (this will blow Toyotas aggregate self insured retention and therefore insures will have taken control of this action long ago). All of this is strategically placed to avoid a trial in what is a plaintiff friendly jurasdiction - CALIFORNIA!
