  1. Interesting that the GS and LS don't even make it into the top 104 !!
  2. Here's the condensed version Gary put together. You can shorten them if you experiment e.g 'hide all icons' always works instead of 'hide all POI icons'. That list hasn't got some of my favourite ones !!!!!!... like: "I'm Hungry" or "Chinese Restaurants"..... There loads more gems like that - have a play, talk to your car .... you'll be surprised... The Ed
  3. The error codes can be reset but they do come back. Doing this just disguises the problem and doesn't give confidence in owning the car knowing there is a problem which needs to be fixed. Where has the OP gone, have we frightened him off? Yeah, agreed a fix is better. What are the actual concequences of the error though? Is there really a problem, or just spurious error codes that are not causing any damage. My point being that if you don't have 3 grand to chuck at the car, it is an alternative option. or not? It's a software fault in the ECU (which thinks the mixture is too rich I believe) - They have now changed both O2 sensors to a differnet type and updated the software. I think the outcome of ignoring the fault codes is naff all UNLESS the codes put you in 'limp home mode' of course... The Ed
  4. He's gone into cardiac arrest!! As an aside the very fact that Lexus has extended the warranty for this problem to 5 years means they know damn well it's a problem but won't recall and fix it because it's going to cost too much money. However, strange that they have recalled the RX for glass break sensor replacement (which means the alarm goes off occasionally) and I assume this fix is a couple of cheap ultrasonic units which cost pennies. An ECU on the other hand is considerably more !!!!! (Although it shouldn't be as it's nothing more than a few chips (logic gates),an on board cpu and bespoke ROM embedded software .......... I rest my case The Ed
  5. Try: Steve Settle Lexus GB Limited Great Burgh Burgh Heath Epsom Surrey KT18 5XS steve.settle@lgb.lexus.co.uk Or; Karl Schlicht (director) karl.schlicht@lgb.lexus.co.uk Mike Mead (Aftersales Director) mike.mead@lgb.lexus.co.uk
  6. OK - it's linked to the anti-theft/alarm... anyone smashes a window the sirens go WeewooWeeWoo.........................
  7. Known problem.... You will need: 1 A new ECU 2 2x Oxygen Sensors 3 An oil and filter change Total cost (if not under warranty - circa £3,000)!!!! - Yes you did read that right! If you bought the car from a Lexus dealer it should be covered under warranty - if not, you are in for a very expensive bill I'm afraid. Lexus know about this problem (in fact they have even extended the cover to 5 years for this item) but they refuse to do a recall for it.
  8. You will know (or effectively be in the clear) after 21st April. Plod has 14 days from the date of the alleged offence to issue a NIP (Notice of prosecution.) The Ed Opps - Just re-read your post of April 7th and noticed you said in it 'last week' so just count 14 days from the date you thought you were paparazzi'd - if it's past the 14 days you are probably in the clear.... fingers crossed.
  9. I don't want to upset anyone but...... dealers can go way WAY higher on discount than the figures quoted in this thread !!
  10. If that's the dealers attitude then walk out - go to another dealer. I bought my GS from a dealer over 250 miles away. I negotiated a cracking discount, took the day off on the 1st March when I collected it and made a day of it. Me and the Mrs collected the car, went and had a spot of lunch, did a bit of shopping and then enjoyed the luxury drive home! Now let me think..... It probably cost me 2 tank fulls of fuel (my trade in car going down there and the Lexus coming back). Lets say that cost me £125. I wont say how much I saved all together but it was north of £4,000 !! Money well spent as far as I'm concerned. If their attitude is like you say.... there's ALWAYS another dealer willing to talk. The Ed
  11. Yeah - even you're parked and not in the car at the time !! Insurance companies use any bloody excuse to hike your premium. For years they take your money without questions but.... how dare you actually want to make a claim !!!
  12. Digital Kettles !!!... YES !!! now there's a product to market to the masses... add that to my digital torch and I'll be all set
  13. Errrrrrrr........ Cos we wont spend the money! We used to be the envy of the world with the quality of our television broadcasts utilisg PAL etc.... Now (as is the norm)... we are falling behind the rest of the world when it comes to technology. Our broadband speeds are pathetic. The governemnt missed an opportunity when they announced our 'new' terrestrial digital television phase in. A system which is out of date and technically flawed. Why didn't we take the opportunity to go high def?... Oh.. oh... and don't even get me started on how 'HD Ready and True HD televisions were marketed over here !!! LOL. What was the question again??... oh yes DAB
  14. Must have been through the old baboon enclosure in a safari park !!! :winky:
  15. Has a pressure washer been used on them (the bumper) regularly? - Is so they are probably knackered! Don't put a pressure washer anywhere near them.
  16. SERIOUSLY not recommended and I also believe it's an MOT failure !!??
  17. Hmmmmm...... Interesting. Personally I have always considered the dipped beam too low on the new GS as well. I have asked my dealer but it appears there is no adjustment since they are self leveling. However (and here's the interesting bit) - My car is 4 years old in March and so has had one MOT (at Lexus). This year I could not get my car to the dealer before the MOT expired so I took it to a brand spanking new MOT only centre in my home town. Now these guys have no axe to grind because MOT's is all they do.... no remedial work/repairs etc... just MOT's. Also this is a brand new facility with new equipment. I stayed with the guy while he did the MOT and not surprisingly it sailed through everything without hitch UNTIL it got to the bit where they check headlight alignment........ Oh dear . The nearside headlamp on dipped was very borderline due to it being too low. he checked it again....then moved the car (due to the headlamps swiveling with the steering on the GS). He said the wheels may not have been pointing directly forward..... Same result. Now he did say strictly speaking it's a fail but it was VERY borderline so he passed it!!! The car is in for a service in the next few weeks so I will ask my dealer (Lexus Sheffield - who are and have been superb with all aspects of work ever done on my GS I might add) whether anything can be done. The Ed.
  18. Sorry Parthiban - Not personal... I was just venting my spleen !!!!
  19. it's not Toyotas fault... It's all the fault of ACCOUNTANTS !! Accountants were the parasites that nearly destroyed Mercedes and unfortuantely they have crept into every walk of life and dabble with things they don't really understand (and that includes numbers !!! ) Cars used to be engineered to a quality, now they are engineered to a price.......... Quality and saftey suffer due to the faceless KPMG's/PWC's/Delloites of this world. The Ed P.S - If there are any big five employees out there who disagree.... I don't care !! I deal with the D&O/E&O claims from these so called professional outfits and believe me, they make plenty of b*lls ups!! Rant Over...............
  20. Another one to watch out for (although not to much on Saloons) is the ice on the boot/hatch can be heavy ! As happened to me the other day on my wifes car - Lifted up the boot, went to lift something in..... Boot lid dropped slightly due to it being covered in ice and the weight associated with it.... Head hit boot lid... lots of jumping about and foul language !! :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk:
  21. See..... here. Lexus not effected.
  22. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.................................. !!!! :tsktsk: Personally I wouldn't give you 8p for 50 litres of the stuff !!! It's horribly acidic - Yes it eats away at the dirt on your wheels BUT it also eats away at your wheels !! Your nuts ( ) will gio rusty in 4 seconds flat and your wheels will look like pooh very quickly. Sorry - learnt first hand with this product many years ago. Do yourself a favour - clean your wheels thoroughly witha good pH balanced cleanser and then apply Wheel Wax or similar. Your wheels will look great and they will have a level of protection on them. When you come to clean off the dirt/brake dust they will be a doddly to clean just using normal car shampoo. The Ed
