  1. hi all does anyone know where I can get a gearbox from for a 2001 Y reg. I was driving on my way to work when I noticed the gear changes were jerky, and revving hard before changing. Then all of a sudden I had no drive. When the RAC came to the rescue he tried it, it drove for about 5 yards then nothing. Recovered it to a garage where they drained the oil etc, still the same. If I can't find a replacement box I'm afraid the car will be broken up for spares. I just had the mot done late jan 2008 and taxed at the same time. the body is in mint con as is the rest of the car. Had the cam and other belts done at 99000 miles (currently on 110000), plus a full service plugs and filters changed at the same time. Plus had 2 new front tyres (18 inch alloys not perfect condition few scuffs on rims) Discs and pads replaced at 87000 miles. Any help would be appreciated in locating a gearbox as I would hate to have to break up a perfectly good car. Many thanks cnrke1
  2. I'm contemplating converting my RX. What is the flashlube? Excuse my ignorance.
  3. The disc has exactly what it says on the description. Shows in detail how to etc. etc. It's laid out much like a Haynes manual, but in more detail and descriptions. :) And it does only cover the MK1 RX.
  4. Just found the cd rom on Ebay. From the description of this one it seems to cover everything. I've just bought the last one by the looks of it sorry guys. This is a description of the contents of the cd rom This is COMPLETE 1998 - 2003 SERVICE / REPAIR MANUAL, and is not a rip-off Chilton's or Haynes manual. This covers every part of the car, in and out, and is made specifically for this model and series. You will have no problem finding, and repairing anything on your car. It comes on a CD-ROM 1000 + Pages It has Explored views, Troubleshooting chats, How-tos, Electrical Diagrams, Interior Panel Removal, and many many more…. The chapters are: 1. Air Conditioning (AC) 2. Automatic Transaxle (AX) 3. Body Electrical (BE) 4. Body Mechanical (BO) 5. Brake (BR) 6. Charging (CH) 7. Cooling (CO) 8. Emission Control (EC) 9. Engine Mechanical (EM) 10. Ignition (IG) 11. Introduction (IN) 12. Lubrication (LU) 13. Maintenance (MA) 14. Propeller Shaft (PR) 15. Service Specifications (SS) 16. SFI (SF) 17. Starting (ST) 18. Steering (SR) 19. Supplemental Restraint System (RS) 20. Suspension and Axle (SA)
  5. When I bought the car I was given 1 key (Grey 2 buttons). After reading through pages of posts on LOC on this subject. Am I led to believe I don't have the master key? I've bought a replacement 2 BUTTON NEW BLANK KEYLESS REMOTE KEY SHELL CASE from http://search.stores.ebay.co.uk/auto-dude. What I'm wondering is can I buy a new key with transponder and programme it using the method I found on this site without the master key. Or can I get it programmed, from an independant locksmith with the facilities to program keys, without the master key to swipe to obtain the codes (can they use the key I have to do this). The info I found on LOC doesn't clarify. Some say you need the master key some say you don't. Alot of the posts which say you do are circa 2004 early 05. Any help would be appreciated thanks in advance cnrke1
  6. I'd gladly pay you a fiver plus p&p if you could burn a copy off for me. :) :winky:
  7. The Americans don't have many roundabouts or speed humps maybe thats why they don't experience the problems as much as you Mk2 owners are.
  8. after cleaning my MAF sensor I also cleaned the air intake to the fuel injection manifold. like a fool I started the car without connecting the MAF back up. I noticed the engine management and VSC were still on when the engine was running even after connecting the Maf back up. So I disconnected the battery for an hour, the warning lights went out when I started it back up and the car runs perfectly fine. I don't know if you can clean the Oxy sensor but it's located at the top of the exhaust manifold behind the radiator. You can't miss it. I picked up an Oxy sensor for my Audi A6 for £30 from local motor factors after having a similar quote from Audi. If you need to replace it, it's so simple a job it just unscrews after disconnecting the wires. Hope this helps. cnrke1 You didn't say whether you cleaned the MAF or the lights just came on.
  9. my 2001 rx300 has developed a squeal coming from one of the pulleys ( the one with the 2 belts on). I've sprayed wd40 on it. this stops it for a while but then comes back. i've done a search in the forum for any similar prob but couldn't find any. Has anyone else had this and managed to cure it. Any help would be appreciated as it's driving me nuts.
  10. Thanks Felix will try that out tomoz. She needs a good detail and service anyway. Job done and while I was at it I cleaned the air intake valves on the manifold with injection/carb cleaner. The car started in a cloud of smoke.
  11. I'd like to know where the limiter is too. Plus how to disable it.
  12. you only have to register to search areas you live in or are traveling to. It doesn't cost anything.
  13. check this site out for cheap petrol stations local to you and info about the various fuel types available. Sheel optimax, BP Ultimate, etc also info on the new 99 octane from Tesco. http://www.petrolprices.com/motoring.html forgot to mention you have to register to use the price checker. IT is free, it's ideal for finding out in advance when travelling out of town and finding the cheapest petrol station of that area, or en route if you have a heavy right foot like me.lol
  14. :D :D :D :D never has a truer word been said :D :D :D :D I love my RX it's got all I want and need.
  15. has anyone tried one of these gizmos from this site? http://www.m-99.co.uk/Superchips_Alternati...e_power_fo.html I was googling for bits for the RX and come across this. This site also has other wonder things which seem a bit dubious to me. Like the fuel saver thing
  16. are you sure the dealer is right that you have the correct screen. If you look at pics of RX with/without sat nav the surround is different.( button config) I'm not too sure about the screen though. As for fitting one if you look around these forums they say it's an expensive job and not worth it. Try the search in these forums you can find almost everything on this subject. Hope you find your answer :)
  17. I'm due the 100k full service on my RX300se. I want to use a full synthetic oil but which one should I use?
  18. i've been doing some investigation regarding supermarket and branded fuel. Apparently it all comes from the same suppliers. When the tanker picks up the fuel from them the operater adds in the additives for whoever is taking the delivery be it Shell,BP,Esso Tesco etc. So it's all the same fuel apart from the additives. I just came here to see which fuel most Lexus drivers are using. I go with the majority Shell is the way.
  19. where can I get the stickers/transfers for the brake callipers. I'm painting them soon and would like some.
  20. I don't like the shiny look many products leave (looks tacky and cheap). I use the brush head off a hoover then a damp microfibre cloth. Works a treat for a couple of days then back to square one. I'd rather do that than have a shiny dash.
  21. I have a 2001 rx, my seat does the same when I'm driving but not my wife. I'm a rather large man not fat but well set. my seat cushion just touches the centre consul which causes the squeak.
  22. I will be glad as it's starting to annoy my wife leaving oil patches on our new block paved drive. I've told her that I've got detergent to clean it away after the leaks fixed. But women are never happy. Now thats another story. :D :D
