  1. No just cosmetics. I think this would be Bumpers,Sideskirt, Lip spoiler and exhaust. If I remember rightly jeremy clarkson said the exhausts were fakes so we are just talking tail pipes?
  2. Is anyone selling kits to convert your IS to an IS-F. Whats the cost? Im presuming there are people that will do it as you can get BMW's converted to M3 /M5's from the standard.
  3. Its been a while since i went to a cruise, however tonight i decided to go to one at handforth dean, manchester. Well folks there was one single is200 there letting us all down with his poor attempts of flicking the back end out and pretty much tried to be the centre of attention getting in everyones way. quite shocking really as it made the is200 look absolutly c-r-a-p especially when a pug 106 was doing better turns than you.. so then, own up who are you?? lol Oh yeh... not to mention there were a few near collisions. - id practise in a car park alone b4 trying to show off at a cruise matey cos i was ashamed at the performance of the lexus after watching that!!
  4. well to answer this issue here what i finally have done in order to fix the shaking and squeeling from the wheels It was found that the front passenger side caliper was sticking and as a result a large amount of heat was beng transferred to the disk and caliper causing excessive wear on these brake pads and would eventually warp the disc. 1. Remove the wheel and caliper in preparation to replace brake pads 2. wind back the caliper piston fully. 3. behind the rubber seals on the piston you may find a bit of rust where water has gotton in. you need to clean this and oil it with wd40. 4. pump you brakes a few time to push the caliper out and wind it back. repeat this several times oiling behind the seals each times to loosen it out. you may find this to be a 2 man job. make sure your caliper piston goes in a bit each time the brake pedal is released. 5. stick new pads in (ADL pads will do at the cost of £23) as you will find that the pads are worn down alot more than the drivers side. when you do this use alot of copper grease on the piston and back of the pads. this should no longer squeel and best of all will no longer stick causing the shake at 60 mph. :-)
  5. How can you cure a sticking caliper? whats the cause and what will a garage do when i take the car to them and say my caliper is sticking? does it mean a new caliper? As the wheels - since they are corroded so badly im gonna get a new set then i can be sure they are all good. then i will start and change tyres if i get more shaking problems.
  6. D_McA - you have a point there with the passenger front wheel as that is where the noise is coming from and yes it does get very very dirty that wheel compared to the others!! have kwik fit told you anything about it? as for the whistling vvprotocolvv has mentioned the same symtoms as my car gets. Its appears to be on long drives around that the noise appears at 35-40 while driving on country roads. its really odd. i took the front passenger wheel off today to have a clean and found the wheel was hard to turn. the pad seems fine however there is a bit of a lip on the disc but i dont think its major. I also found on closer inspection all of my wheels were refurbs except 1. i know this because there was no mirrored edge (diamond cut i think they call it). these wheels are all in a pretty bad state of corrosion. can refurbed wheels cause shaking? can anyone recommend me getting a new set from that guy off ebay whose located in blackpool. they do a full powder coated set of 5 for £240 as long as a i post mine back to them. i dont know whether this will cure my problems. what do you think?
  7. k... whats an eighther? secondly the caliper - what part or why would the caliper develop a fault in what way? And which part of my problem are you responding to? noises or shaking?
  8. I know this has come up a number of times in the past. Unfortunately my 2000 Is200 has developed the following problems which i need help with: A) Whistling when i turn the wheel mainly to the left going round bends - roughly id say between 10 and 60 degrees. B ) sometimes when the i turn the wheel in a 3 point turn and the car is stationary I hear creaking noises that dont sound to good. C) I hear disc scraping noises while the car is driving all the time. is this normal? D) Apart from noises the biggest problem is that my car steering shakes really badly at between 50 and 60mph. This goes away if i drive outside of this range. This fault seems to only occur after some time of driving. possibly when the car tyres have warmed up. The balancing has recently been done. I cannot understand why i have all these problems and what to do to rectify it all. Can i have some suggestions please? I will say that my alloys are in a bad state of corrosion and i have been looking at a new set of refurbished ones off the guy selling them on ebay. Is it worth doing this or it it likely to be something else that is causing all these problems??
  9. I gave up in the end and took it back to them. They took it all apart and plugged my brake light in for me. Its turns out you need to pull out the back seats then pull off the side roofing panels and then pull up the parcel shelf and it should slide towards you. Having taken it back to them they gave me £20 back for my trouble which meant my window tints cost £180 which i believe is a pretty good price for a lexus. I took my car home afterwards and give it a good clean as I inspecting the job done - It is a very good window tint with very little bubbles in it which I am told will go away in the next week. Unlike some tinters they actually took my windows completely out to tint them. It turns out if you buy cars new and used from stratstone Manchester (porche/ferrari/range rovers) and you ask for it with window tints it gets sent to them to do. To prove it they had brand new unregistered range rovers there that they were tinting.
  10. Im trying to get the brake light connected up again and I cant get the parcel shelf apart from the car. Id appreciate a prompt response please??
  11. Possibly mate.. I bought it off some stupid woman that was driving about with 4 very dangerous tyres on it and I mean VERY dangerous tyres and it shook like hell. Can Charlesworth Motors do it? How Much we looking for geometry being done?
  12. Well fancy this... An IS owner wanting to get the RX8. - Im glad u changed your mind as I made the mistake and learnt the expensive way from it back in january this year. I was looking at either the Lotus Elise or the RX8. YUP the RX8 won due to everything it had including the full leather seats/sat nav/bose sound system/suiside doors/etc... Took the loan and went out to get one. Bought the 192BHP Model with all the extras in for £12,000 on a 53 plate with 33,000 miles on the clock. Insurance cost £3500 and indeed it was a beautiful car!! Very Fast, DSC braking worked excellent on snake pass (road between manc and sheffield), equipment was excellent and there was even an owners club I joined like Lexus. Then it all went down hill. 22mpg as advertised was actually 14mpg (£25 petrol got you 90 miles). The daft rotary engine that sounded like a hairdryer had a common fault of froffy oil that the dealerships couldnt fix. Then on top of that as standard it uses 1 litre of oil every 1000 miles which would mean every 2 weeks you pay £15 for the special oil it uses. Then the starter motor went which again was a common fault and an official UK recall. This was because the starter motor was never powerful enough to start the engine after the ever so common FLOODING issue. YES FLOODING. Stall the car at lights and your screwed - Another phone call to mazda assist and half a day wasted as your car wont start. Every morning I came out to it, I would worry as to whether the car would start or not. AND people said on the owners club "Its like a ticking time bomb that is gonna go any minute." The customer service topped it for me when i went to RRG Mazda in Stockport which funnily enough is the lexus dealership too! They said it needed the new starter motor which was on recall however they wanted £500 for it as it was 2 months out of warranty. So after kicking off there I went to Mazda UK and complained and several weeks later I got a letter basically saying after having £22k for it at New they were not interested whatsoever regardless of it being a recall item. So I got rid of the Car... £12,000 i bought it for and 7 weeks later I got top price on it of £10,000 (dealer offer to give me £9.5k for it). Very gutted and annoyed. I say its possibly the first and last mazda I will ever own in my lifetime. The car should have been designed with a proper engine. RX actualy stands for Rotary Experimental - this of which is an experiment that started in the 1960's and still havent got right. A great shame really as it is a very good unuique looking car. As many people are worried and unsure of this technology they are prone to loose LOTS OF MONEY VERY FAST! So yeah... I learnt the hard way and returned back to Lexus whom is very very reliable!! ALSO IT WAS VERY EMBARRESSING TO BE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE FO JUNTIONS AND AT PETROL STATIONS BECAUSE THE CAR WOULDNT START. ESPECIALLY FOR A NEWISH SPORTS CAR!! SHOCKING CAR AND SHOCKING CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
  13. personally i dont think that its fun at all. I think its a safety issue that should have been addressed years ago by lexus. I have owned a BMW 3series E46 and i found that had a very good road holding and didnt spin out at all. The lexus spins out on any road that are wet when you go round corners. I have put Pirelli P7000 tyres on the back of mine and i drive with snow mode on and still constantly get wheel spins and drifts. On the whole its an unsafe car unless you have dry weather. Simply drive the car like an old man and you will be fine. Dont go to work on days where it snows!! With this said i love the car and its styling more than BMW and therefore I have no choice but to put up with its massive unsafe downside.
  14. As the title says... Got my windows tinted by Auto Tints in Altrincham, Manchester today who claim they do work for stratstone on Ferrari's/Porche's, etc.. - Anyway got the car back thsi evening to find I have a handbrake light on the dash and the high level brake light doesnt work anymore. As this is not working is this why the hand brake light would appear on the dash and secondly how do I get to it to make sure it is connected up properly? Further to that I found that they didnt bother to re-connect some component speakers I have on the back shelf (that a previous owner put in) because "it wasnt standard on the car" Im waiting to find out what they have managed to break in the morning in terms of door panels and additional marks and scratches to my interior. My initial thoughts are, if they do this sort of standard on my lexus I wouldnt let them anywhere near a £120,000 + Car like a ferrari!!
  15. Im wanting to upgrade my Half Leather & Suede seats/door cards AND dash on my 2000 Model IS200. Im sure many have been thinking the same! After some searching I cannot find the answers so I thought id ask. 1. DASH ======================= A) Changing from the nasty 2 tone gold/black dash to ALL black - Will this be a simple swap or did they change any fittings in anyway? Has anyone tried upgrading their dash? B)Will my existing Radio and heater controls screw in no problem? C) Centre console any different in fitting? 2. SEATS ==================================== A) Will seats from a 2004 onwards fit in the a 2000 model? B) Only the drivers seat is electric but is the wiring there for the passenger seat to be electric as most later models have both front seats electric? - If there isnt can I swap over just the actual seat onto a normal manual rail? 3. DOOR CARDS ====================================== A) how do you take them off. I get stuck at the point of trying to get the handle off?
  16. Am I too late for getting these rings now?
  17. That would explain why the lights stayed on for a while on a mercedes C-class i had once as a courtesy car. My lex turns off as soon as you open the drivers door. There is no setting from what I know to have the lights stay on until you get to your door. Maybe take a torch with you for those late nights and early mornings if you have a problem seeing? Otherwise the electronic guru's might be able to think of a wiring mod that may be a whole lot of hassle...
  18. Thanks for the reply Jamie. Bit of a shame but oh well! So what does everyone think... Should I go for: A) The LED lights above (black or Chrome) or B) Pulsing Brake lights on my standard lights Id still like to see some shots of this type of light on cars if anyone has any or is this considered a tacky mod?
  19. Has anyone got pictures of their cars (Day or Night) with the LED lights on? I cannot make my mind up on whether I like the black tinted or chrome on my Granite Sky (grey) lex. Second Question - Ive found the posts about pulsing brake lights and seen the video on YouTube but cannot find out if you can use this type of LED unit for the pulse brake light. From what I can see the group buy was just for a standard 7443 bulb replacement but im guessing these LED units use several individual bulbs. Has anyone got this type of light unit to pulse at all?
  20. unlucky mate. Lexus dealership sells them for around £13 i believe.
  21. has anyone got a picture of the condenser. I dont know which bit this is and the insurance report says it need replacing. If its located on the passenger side then I think it wont be damaged.? please post pictures of engine bay if anyone has any please? Also Here is a pic of the Rad on the drivers side. Apart from this being pushed back on the front panel, this appears to be the only damage to it. Do you think I culd get away with not replacing it as its not leaking and the car it drivable?
  22. How much you value an 2000 W Reg SE on 105k miles. Looks immaculate inside and out. Full service history. Cat D light front end repair? Id put £4k on it. what do you think?
  23. Well Ive been to the accident repair centre for the report. There alot of stuff on the list that doesnt need replacing such as lexus IS200 badges for £11 etc.. - They probably decided that they were going to spray the whole back of the car. The guy showed me a little damage where the spare wheel is. Its not visible from the outside but the back has pushed in a bit. Can this be seen as unsafe to drive. If i repair visible damage can it then be driven? Written off beyond ecoonomical repair is a Cat D? does this need to be inspected once the work has been done and how much does that cost? who does it?
  24. yup... Lexus just seem to bring me bad luck. lol. Oh well. Standard bonnets are not very common on ebay. Cant say ive seen many Radiators either. I think asking here is a good start. I will get on the phone tomorrow and start ringing about.
  25. Well its happened to me again. Driving a long and the woman in front braked suddenly causing the girl behind to smack in the back of me pushing me into the car in front. Unfortunately for me I came out the worse. The other 2 cars (front car and back car) were fine but the front of my Is200 just caved in yet the back of my car just had little scratches? not major damage but the bonnet bent up and the grill got pushed back. The bumbers fine but the radiator and the frame that holds it has been pushed back into the engine. I just dont understand why that happened and yet the bumber and chasis all remained fine. Why can the bonnet curl up when its set back from the bumber? The insurance company has said it will cost £5k to fix so they have written it off. im convinced I could fix this within £1000 so im buying the car back for £1k. Does anyone think I would stuggle on the following: - Drivers Side Headlight - Bonnet - Radiator - The frame that holds the radiator that is attached to each wing. Inner frame - Not sure what this is actually called? Whats the going rates on these new or second hand. Places that people can point me in. Repray on front end is going to cost around £200 from a back street spray shop.
