  1. The question is; can you afford to get your engine re-built after your cambelt breaks? The gamble could cost 10 times more plus no car until engine is repaired or replaced. Seems a no brainer to me.
  2. On the door panel there is a switch (its nearest the front) that you can select left or right or central. Left or right selected will then dip that mirror when reverse is selected. Hope that helps, and best of luck with your new toy/ car.
  3. This is the sentence that says it all for me. "We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us." If only...
  4. I'm certainly not a racist, but I do agree wholeheartedly with that message. But before we get carried away, it's worth remembering that we tried to change half the countries of the world to our way of doing things. Mainly during the Victorian era.
  5. OK, I'm into my second (or is it third) childhood and happened to see a programme on BBC1 which I thought was far too good for children. If yuou have not seen it yet, take a look at (it helps at this time if you have young children as they give you an excuse for what your watching) "SHAUN THE SHEEP". A well done and very funny cartoon series for the young and old and decrepid amongst us. I'll get my coat...
  6. Old, but still good for a laugh.
  7. Just one thing puzzles me about Apple computers. If they are so good, cost the same, never develop any faults, are bug free and way ahead of Microsoft. Then why of all the computers sold throught the world in 2006 just 2% had Apple OS and 98% had Microsoft OS? :shutit:
  8. you havent got any 0% means you have been a good boy as a matter of interest they can be removed as well as being given :D Oops! I just looked at the 5 blue boxes and thought they represented 10% each. Thanks for putting my mind at rest Bazza. :D
  9. I've just checked mine and was somewhat surprised at the number :duh: It would help if I knew what they were for as I never intentionally intended to breech forum rules. Sometimes I do tend to speak my mind, but never say anything I would not have said face to face. I fully agree with the banning of foul language and racist remarks, but comments made in response to an entry should be considered against that entry. OK it's time to stop digging...
  10. Why do you want to top up your oil, when the level is normal? I'm sure some kind LOC member will take the time to check which oil you need as you are too damned lazy to do it yourself. Personally I would recommend 50% castor oil with 38% Cod liver oil and 11% oil of cloves with just 1% 50/200 used tractor oil. P.S. It worked in my old Trabant for over 12 minutes.
  11. Have you checked the Lexus.co.uk website, as they have roof racks etc. for the IS220/250. Although I guess once you've paid their prices you could not afford to go anywhere or buy anything to put on them.
  12. Thanks everyone for the replies. I think I'll wait until all programmes are broadcast in HD as standard. I was in some doubt as my picture is very good at present, so a slightly better picture does not warrant the extra £10 a month according to you who have tried HD.
  13. Love it, too! Especially as the march was for MIGRANTS, not illegals! This country has always been a mixture of folk. Our DNA comes from all over the place. And there are still more folk leaving than entering! Plus, the majority of migrants are skilled people, many of whom just happen to have been born in a different area of this EARTH than you. Don't fall for the newspaper hysteria about it all; it just feeds the basic instincts in the worst sense! Just think how people in other countries feel about the (English) louts who drunkenly abuse their country on cheap weekends away! Great ambassadors for this 'Great' Britain? Tolerance needed here. No-one is trying to do anything but have a life, bring up families..... I quite agree with you Chris, extending the hand of friendship is something we can all do. Too much is mentioned about the few immigrants who cause trouble, as if there was no crime in the UK before they came. Oh! by the way, there are plenty of planes and ferrys for anyone wishing to leave the UK.
  14. Had a letter from Sky offering their HD box for £149 including installation. This is £210 cheaper than their normal price so has got me really intested. I was wondering what people who have had Sky HD for a while think of it. Does the extra £10 a month seem worthwhile for better pictures? Or do you get used to it an wish you had not bothered once the novelty wears off? I hate giving any extra money to Sky as they are such grabbing bees unless my viewing pleasure increases. Thanks for any helpfull input. Oldcro
  15. I use Vista Ultimate, and I agree with others who actually have it say. It is the best OS from Microsoft ever. I did think of changing to a MAC computer and bought a MAC magazine to get some info. Firstly I was surprised at the number of adverts for Anti-virus software, as I thought MAC's never suffered from virus's. Or so it is claimed by many. Secondly the magazine kept mentioning how much better MACs were compared to PCs. They did not mention anything about MACs not being able to run a lot of specialist programmes as their customer base is much smaller. Thirdly, lots of stories about the super new OS called Leopard. Trouble is its launch has been delayed once again. Fourthly, MACs do have an enviable reputation in the publishing world, but seem just average otherwise. Lastly, it kept reminding me that MACs were to first to bring out this and that, Well surprise, surprise being the first does not make you the best. If it did we would all be driving Mercedes cars. Sorry to have drifted off topic. :winky:
  16. Steve, what you discribe sounds like what happened to me with one exception. I did no save anything so presumably they did, which made me suspicious that there was some sort of tax scam going on in which I was implicated by signing the invoice as being correct. I hope I am wrong, as such activities are not those one expects from a reputable dealer of executive cars of which this forum members are familiar with.
  17. Thanks everyone for your help. As for the invoice situation, it just puzzled me why they juggled the figures. I gained nothing from it, but if they did not gain anything why alter the invoice figures in the first place. What really annoyed me was if it was a tax avoidance scheme I had signed the invoice and could be accused of assisting them in defrauding the Inland Revenue. I was not making any comment on whether Mercedes or Lexus was a better car, or who's dealers were the best. I believe there are good and bad cars and dealers in each company. I was however comparing their respective web sites, and in my opinion Mercedes Cars had much more information and a very good interactive handbook section for each model. PS The bottom line is that I do not trust that particular dealership anymore.
  18. Hypothetical situation. Man wanting to buy a new car agrees part exchange price with garage, subject to his car being as described. He did not visit the garage prior to the day of the sale. New car is £20,000 Part exchange offer is £10,000 Leaving £10,000 to be paid. On the day he collects his new car, without the garage checking his PX car he is given an invioce to sign. The invoice differs from the agreed conditions as follows. New car is £20,000 New car discount £1,000 Part exchange offer is £9,000 Leaving £10,000 to pay. Now the man paid the original agree price so he didn't gain or loose anything. What I would like to know is why the garage did this. On paper they seem to have received £1,000 less than they did. Was this a scam to avoid tax and VAT on the £1,000 or is there a simple explaination for their actions? Of course such actions would never take place at a Lexus dealership.
  19. Just checking the Mercedes web site and was amazed at the information available there. They have an Interactive Owner's manual which explains just about everything about the car you expect to find in the owner's manual with interactive displays. Their site design and presentation puts Lexus.co.uk's web site to shame. In my experience of contacting Lexus UK, the answer to any question will be "contact your local dealer" . Even if you mention you have asked your local dealer and they have not or could not answer your question their reply will end up the same. So my situation is that I like my IS250 SE-L but found the dealership to be just average and Lexus UK to be a complete waste of time. Even the little things like contacting you after having the car a while to see how your getting on with it would be nice. It's called customer feedback which is a good for improving the cars and showing some appreciation for the customer who pays all their wages. Rant over.
  20. Just a thought, but does anyone whos car suffers from smelly air con ever switch their compressor off. I ask because in all my cars with air con I have never switched it off and never and a smelly system. Now my feet are another story...
  21. Mine is because I used to be a Control Room Operator before retiring through exhaustion and old age.
  22. Israeli Professor Liviu Librescu was one of those people who makes the world a better place to live. His students owe him a great debt which obviously can never be repaid. Kind of puts all our petty wingeing moans about Lexus into perspective doesn't it?
