  1. Hi Dewey, I have the same fitting on my 400h ........... If you wish, I can scan the user manual and send it on to you ........ Would be later in the week, but let me know and I'll happily do it. Cheers ........... Pete :)
  2. When I bought my latest 400h it had both rear and front sensors but fitted by the previous owner ....... These are not speed sensitive and therefore frighten the living daylights out of me if I get close to a grassy bank, cone or something else at speed ........... The sensors on my first 400h was fitted for me by Lexus and were speed sensitive ..... A much better solution and less stressful when driving at speed. I would ask Lexus first if it is possible to fit speed sensitive ones ............ Cheers ............ Pete
  3. I have had 2 x RX400h's and both have sat on the driveway ......... As Stuno1 said in an earlier post, the RX is a modern car and will not deteriorate by being outside. Keep it clean and polished and it will continue to make you proud. I doubt if the resale value will suffer any additional depreciation as a result. Keep the Triumph and restore it back onto the road. Although I think driving the RX is great I get much more pleasure from the classic I own, albeit a modern one ..... Don't give up the pleasure and excitement of a classic for a bit of sweat and polish on the Lexus. My car in the garage is .......... BTW I like your garage floor ...... wish mine was so clean and tidy Cheers ............ Pete
  4. Had two 400H's since they came out and have shut the tailgate on both of them manually most of the time. Wife tends to use the button, however I just reach up and pull it down. Like ColinBarber says I let it finally close itself and I do not slam it closed. Never had any issues with either car.
  5. Good post TigerFish, I think you have hit the nail on the head when it comes to reversing lights .....
  6. I agree with NELMO, and I too am adding fuel to the fire ....... Having tried to bring a little humour to the party in an earlier post, it seems that reversing lights are a bone that needs shaking a bit more . So, I looked at the "The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations" on the UK GOV web site and it says in respect or reversing lights ...... (Regulation 20) SCHEDULE 14requirements relating to optional reversing lamps 1. Number: Not more than two 2. Position: No requirement 3. Angles of visibility: No requirement 4. Alignment: To the rear 5. Markings– (a) A motor vehicle first used on or after 1st April 1986 and a trailer manufactured on or after 1st October 1985: An approval mark (b) A motor vehicle first used before 1st April 1986 and a trailer manufactured before 1st October 1985: No requirement 6. Size of illuminated area: No requirement 7. Colour: White 8. Wattage– (a) A reversing lamp bearing an approval mark: No requirement (b) A reversing lamp not bearing an approval mark: The total wattage of any one reversing lamp shall not exceed 24 watts 9. Intensity: No requirement 10. Electrical connections: No requirement 11. Tell-tale– (a) A motor vehicle first used on or after 1st July 1954, provided that the electrical connections are such that the reversing lamp or lamps cannot be illuminated other than automatically by the selection of the reverse gear of the vehicle: No requirement (b) Any other motor vehicle first used on or after 1st July 1954: A circuit-closed tell-tale shall be fitted © A motor vehicle first used before 1st July 1954: No requirement (d) Any vehicle which is not a motor vehicle: No requirement So it is apparent from this and other regs, you can have one or two lights, or even none. It or they do not have to illuminate anything except your desire to have really bright lights on your car. .... Whilst there may be a desire to have great lights on the back of a Lexus, there is no legal requirement For Lexus to fit bright lights. Cheers chaps ...... Happy motoring, although I may have to stop going out at night as it is too stressful ..........
  7. Goodness gracious chaps ... all those whinging and whining should get over it ... They are what they are ..... I have a 2009 RX400h but living in Suffolk where the street lights, if they have any, are still gas, I have to admit the lights are not fantastic but adequate ..... So is the camera. I just borrowed a 2013 IS whilst my inverter was changed and to be honest the camera was fantastic compared with the one that I have. The other car I have has no reversing camera at all and the reversing lights are even dimmer than the Lexus ....... I am not however going to bitch about it on my other car forum ... I would be laughed off. Solutions for those that need them: Change the car Change the lights Put lights in your driveway Get night vision goggles Take the other half with you everywhere you go when it is dark to both hold your hand or guide you backwards ..... :tsktsk: :iraqi-info-minister: Sorry ! Wishing all night time drivers the best of fortune .............. Pete
  8. Hi Stevie C-D Mine is also a 2009 RX400h ... again one of the last produced ... and mine has been called forward for the inverter change. I would guess that there is not much mechanical difference between your Special Edition and my Limited Edition so I can't understand why you should be on a wait list as opposed to being booked in. I'd be tempted to call your dealer and ask what is going on ......... Cheers .......... Pete
  9. Post arrived today with letter from VOSA saying my 2009 RX400h is on the recall list ....... Spoke to Lexus Ipswich who are now geared up to do the work and the vehicle is now booked in for 2 weeks time.
  10. Mine is a 2009. Spoke to the recall centre and they confirm it is subject to the recall, however wait until I get the letter from VOSA which ought to be out this month. Time will tell ..........
  11. I reset my MPG info on Saturday in my 400h .... Having filled up with standard 95 RON at Tescos, Morrisons, Shell and BP over the holiday period driving from East Anglia to Scotland and the Midlands as well as local running .... The last 2246 miles has been 32.8 mpg I think that this is more than reasonable as I have a heavy right foot most of the time. As some-one intimated in an earlier conversation ......... I doubt if you will ever get a comparison between Super and Standard as people drive differently each and every day ......... After 50 years of motoring I have resigned myself to just putting the stuff in and burning it ...... Life is too short to worry about getting an extra 20 yards out of a gallon :D Happy motoring chaps ..........
  12. Two questions spring to mind .......... as it is a monotonous Monday afternoon 1. Are you in the right car ?? 2. Seriously, have you picked up the valet key by mistake ?? Sorry ............ other than that I have no idea .........
  13. We had one fitted to our first RX400h by the Lexus dealer in Bracknell when we lived in the Thames valley. I don't remember it being extortionate, although it was slightly more expensive than the back street boys that quoted. The dealer did a very good job and I have no complaints. However when choosing the caravan be careful to look at the nose wheel weight. The standard tow bar as fitted to our 400h by the dealer had a max nose wheel weight of 80Kg ......... This was a the Westfalia one and it stated on the tow bar that 80KG was the max weight. Dual axle vans may well give a problem in that it is very difficult to get the nose wheel down to this level. I was fortunate in that we were in the process of changing our van at the time and with our new single axle van it was fairly easy to balance the van nose wheel down to 75-80 kg. On the latest 400h that we have, again I had a tow bar fitted by the dealer here in Ipswich and again the max nose wheel weight is 80Kg. Happy towing .............. Pete
  14. Welcome to the RX400H ........... As you say a great car. I use the "B" for long downhill descents when trying to stay inside the speed limit. Save braking all the way down the hill ....... It was very useful when I had a caravan on tow to save on brakes .... It works very effectively. Happy motoring .......... Pete :)
  15. Mine went off three times on Tuesday night, finally had to lock it using the key so as to not activate the interior sensors. No problems in the day on Tuesday, no problems in the day on Wednesday .......... Found the culprit today whilst driving to the garage to get the problem sorted out ..... a pretty large moth hiding behind the sun visor ....... frightened the devil out of me as I was driving along. Felt a bit of a fool explaining this to the garage when I got there .... Moth is now resident 25 miles away from where it started this morning.
  16. We have had two RX400h's .... 1st one when we lived in the Thames Valley and there were quite a few there ........ We are now in East Anglia with our 2nd one and we do not see too many out here.
  17. Hi Craig, I don't know if this will be of any help, but on both of the RX400h's that we have owned, it had "Mark Levington Premium Sound System" to the right of the "Lexus" name just above the CD slot on the Audio system in the centre consol. This is just below the hazard warning triangle switch. I am not sure if this is on all vehicles, but both ours had/have this and both had the full monty sound system installed. Cheers ...... Pete
  18. Just as a footnote to the towing with the RX400h ..... The only issue I have had is the nose wheel weight ... Lexus RX400h has a towing nose wheel weight limit of 80Kg. This it seems is nothing to do with the tow bars (both fixed and removable) but is a limitation of the hybrid technology with only the front wheels being mechanically driven from the engine itself. The rear wheels are electric powered and Lexus (according to a couple of dealers I questioned) says that you cannot exceed this 80Kg as it puts too much strain on the electric motors by loading the back of the SUV too much. This in my book is a severe limitation to towing a twin axle vehicle as it is difficult to get a balanced load below 110Kg with my particular van. This is also a problem as the Witter bar under the back of my 400h is quite clearly marker "nose wheel weight of 80Kg" … Exceeding this and having an accident will of course invalidate the car insurance as you will be breaking the law …or so I have been told. Nothing it seems is simple :tsktsk: ……… Best of luck guys …… I sold my 400h and bought a Merc SUV with a nose wheel weight of 140Kg as I did not want to sell the caravan. This is a shame as the 400h was a terrific vehicle. :)
  19. Just to add to all above ……. We have had the RX400h for a few months now. The best thing to do is forget the hybrid thingy and just get on and drive it normally. It did my head in when I first got it as I had the centre (sat nav) display set to look at the motor cum battery display and also the display in the odometer set also to show the same thing .. It got too complicated to look at the two and drive at the same time. I switched them off and drove it like a normal car, from then on I was hooked on the comfort and the performance …. It is pretty difficult to tell when it is the electric motor or petrol engine that is doing the work. The only thing I would say is: · Performance is terrific when both the petrol engine and electric motors take off together, I have wiped the smug smile off a couple of VW boy racers this week when they got left behind :D · Be careful when driving round car parks, people can't hear you coming when only the electric motors are powering the vehicle · We have been touring in it this week and managed 34.8 mpg, not bad for a SUV · Towing is a breeze and the added torque from the electric side helps greatly at times A great SUV and one that will be in our family for a long time to come.
  20. Thanks MartyCee and others ... Bought the caravan, and it is a twin axle so the comments made back in 2006 are very reassuring ... Also spoke to other Lexus dealers about fitting and all seem willing to do so. I guess my local chappie had too much work on so gave me the elbow. All now looks very positive thanks to the input on the forum …. Need to make the various bookings now and get on with it. :D
  21. Thanks guys for the answers so far, and the URL ..... It does indeed look like my Lexus dealer is somewhat confused, although in their defense they did say it is “not advisable”, and not that it could not be done. .... Having seen the responses, then I have no doubt that I will have one fitted … This has been most helpful … You would think in today’s economy the dealer would be looking to be more helpful and more inclined towards giving the customer what he wanted …. This dealer may well have blown it as far as they are concerned as there are two or three other dealers in easy distance. In addition, I have found a mobile guy that seems to know what it is all about and uses genuine Lexus parts, so that may well be the route forward .. lets see what he quotes .... Next job is to find the shed on wheels ……. :D
  22. Hi Tony, Thanks for the update .... They did not give a full reason, just saying it was not advisable due to it being a hybrid .... Curious thing however, in the 400h owners manual there is a section on fitting a towbar and towing .... I'm going to call a couple of other Lexus dealers in the morning to see what they say. ...... Pete
  23. I have a RX400h, which I think is the bees knees ….. I want to return to caravanning and called my local Lexus dealer to ask the price for fitting a towbar and electrics, also what was the max weight I should tow. The dealers reply was that it is not advisable to fit a towbar to a hybrid. I see from previous threads that back in 2005 and 2006 this was partially discussed and no-one was saying anything detrimental about towbars and hybrids at that time. I would appreciate any comments from any-one with a towbar on an RX400h, is it okay or not. Many thanks in advance ………
