  1. Its your car mate! Change the tensioner, yr local dealer is talking bollocks! My dealer told me to change all 3 and I did! :winky: I have changed all three and the waterpump on mine! Not worth the risk. Just seems strange that Lexus Bristol do not change the tensioners!
  2. According to my local Lexus Main Dealer, they NEVER change the tensioner and idler . But, as above, while the belt is off, you may as well change the tensioner, for peace of mind. Can anyone shed any light on this? I have read quite a few cases on here of tensioner wear, which in turn causes cambelt wear. Surely, the main dealers must be aware of this????
  3. According to Autodata:- Valve clearance - INLET = mm: 0,20 +/- 0,05 cold Valve clearance - EXHAUST = mm: 0,30 +/- 0,05 cold
  4. Fluff - Sure did :D Strange one though! Lexus Swindon wanted £95 while Lexus Bristol are getting me a new barrel and keys for £45??????
  5. When are you off to the states?
  6. Colin - Yeah, paid £28.17 + VAT for the belt. Think I will put a tensioner and idler pulley on it just for safety. Suppose Lexus only change them if there are obvious signs of wear! Hows it going? Cars going great, apart from the ignition locking in the ACC position Saturday! Half the dash out and a few clouts with a hammer later and it freed up, so just ordered new ignition barrel. Matt - You have PM
  7. Have just purchased an IS200 (from Colin P on this forum). The car is reading 52k miles so thought I had better change the cambelt while i am giving the car a thorough service. Just been to Lexus Bristol to purchase a new cambelt kit (ie. belt + tensioner). The parts guy and service guy have said you cannot buy a cambelt kit :duh: They then stated that they only ever change the cambelt when you take your car in for a cambelt service! I would normally always change the tensioner whilst the belt is off. The tensioner is available but the main dealer does not use it! Is this normal??
  8. Having just purchased an IS200 from Colin P off of this forum, I needed a few parts for the car. Love the drive and quality of the car :D Within a week of ownership though, the lock barrel decided to jam in the ACC position . I managed to free it off but decided to change the barrel in case this happened in the future. Anyway, rang Lexus Swindon:- New Ignition Barrel Set (including keys) = £95 inc VAT Thought, I would ring Lexus Bristol:- New Ignition Barrel Set (including keys) = £43 inc VAT How can Lexus Swindon charge over double the price??????
  9. Are we in for a sharp drop in IS prices in the next year due to the introduction of the IS250? Interested in people's views. The IS has always depreciated slowly since it's launch and with recently being voted NO2 best car in the UK, will the introduction of a new model have any bearing on prices?
  10. You are all on the right tracks :winky: Firstly, has the vehicle been fitted with the breather modification? This will be a black collector box at the front of the engine (on crankcase breather pipe). Vauxhall were aware of this problem and introduced this modification. Its only £10 from Vauxhall, so if it is not fitted, buy one. This will not cure the problem but should help prevent it in future. Also, make sure the engine oil is regularly changed. Dirty oil will only promote this problem. To solve this problem, firstly clean throttle body thoroughly with carb cleaner. This includes the butterfly (especially on edges). If this is sticking slightly it will have poor idle and will stall. Next, check the the little hole at the back of the throttle body (above butterfly) is not blocked. Next, as the guys have said here, remove idle valve. Split and clean thoroughly. Remember to get a new gasket from Vauxhall before re-fitting. Finally, take off all breather pipes and clean out thoroughly. clogged up breathers tend to cause the erratic idling. If you still get problems, PM me and I will let you know the other likely cause :winky: 9/10 if you do all of the above, it should be fine
  11. Hi, Am thinking of bidding on the following (the front bumper and wheels would come straight off!) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Altezza-RS200-Lexus-...1QQcmdZViewItem It states that the car takes a while to slip into 5th. Is this a common problem? Your views or advice would be most appreciated. Thanks
  12. Stodwyer, Are you selling your white altezza. If so, please could you provide details. Thanks
