i,m thinking of buying a 98 mk4 but the sat nav screen is just black or sometimes goes white!. the rest of the car is ok and i,m not to worried about getting lost etc but is this a major problem?. my local lexus dealer sents them off to be repaired and does not know the cause or cost. cheers maz

my aircon is cutting in and out when the weather is hot.but works fine in cooler weather. i,ve tryed a system check and no numbers are showing on the display(only 00). i did have a similar problem in nov,but that was just the fan switch on the control panel,making both the fan and aircon cut in/out. i changed the whole panel and everything was fine.(or so i thought!). the new control only goes down to 18 degrees not 16. should i re-gas?,i have been told two weights of gas .750k and 1050g to fill the system,which one is correct?. any other ideas? thanks paul

hello mat, i have used swift salvage twice now and both times their service has been spot-on. once i collected a lcd panel(which was better than their description!) the other a mail order for a steering rack and starter motor which are fine after 6 months use. its 10 pound delivery. they were recommended by others at loc and now myself. phone 01903 856568 mobile 07748 701572 e-mail swiftsalvage@aol.com. they are based at west sussex hope this helps cheers maz

thanks for the avise gentlemen,i got a secondhand control panel from swift salvage and was lucky enought to get one with a good Lcd screen. sorry chris(vince),but i don,t need your new screen service,but i would like to say this man was very helpful and i would use him if i needed one. i hope now this cures the problem cheers

swift salvage only had dark lcd screens,as we all have. chris vince has a good write-up and its 180 pound for new better spec LCD. I don,t think you will find any mark 1,s with a clear screen(unless they have been repaired)in a scrap yard.

mine,s the same,the only time it moved above halfway was when the water pump when on the M1!(i stopped qucikly and no damage was done)

all well,looks like we both screwed without the master,the lexus man may have been wrong about getting a new one made with just the code. night

when you mean master key,do you mean the remote control one?. all i,ve got is 2 normal keys,but my man at lexus said he could it get a new remote etc with the key code,if not,its a lock kit for 700 + vat(2 years ago).

i only joined today,but had mine for 6 years. the boot release is under the dash on the right hand side cheers

i have the same problem(mine was not with the car,lost on the tube). you can get a master key(with a remote control chip for the boot)for about 200 pounds + vat.if you have the 4 digit code. lexus should have logged under your chassis number(i can ask a very friendly lexus agent if your local one can.t)mine was,nt logged! if not, its on the nearside front door barrel(mine was the wrong number)so its manual for me. cheers

ok,thank alot,this is the first real problem i,ve had(apart from a water pump replacment). its been an excellent car for six years. i,ve foun,d a second control panel for 50 pound and may take a chance with that(the LCD is dark but whos is,nt? cheers

i have a 1990 Ls400 with the usual dark clock/temp screen problem,but also the control panel inself keeps cutting in and out(sometimes for a few minutes,sometimes for a split second). i thought/was told by a Lexus man it might be the aircon gas,so i had it re-gassed but the problem still plagues me,when the control panel is on everything works fine(incl the aircon and heated rear screen),its now causing problems with the car steaming-up badly and its getting cold the leave the window open!. any ideas(Lexus have not had this problem before!) thks paul
