  1. Hi, I think it's possible to connect up the factory satnav screen to another video source such as the comp video output from a standalone DVD player. Does anyone know where I can get wiring details. I believe it's as simple as 3 wires. Thanks
  2. K700i... I had loads of problems with my K700i disconnecting randomly but it is not the car! I sent the phone back 3 times and the 4th phone finally worked fine. I think the bluetooth software wasn't bug free... Upside was that I got 3 free 512k memorysticks! Transfer the phonebook: On the car - Phone>Settings>Transfer Phonebook and follow instructions. The phone will then disconnect from the car. On the phone (most sony-ericssons): Phonebook>Options>Advanced>Send all Contacts - then select the car when it asks who you want to send it to (normnally this is called HANDSFREE) Now the bad part - in the Sony Ericsson you can store more than one number per name which is logical. The Lex can't understand this so it only stores the last number for each name which is normally fax or other, so not alot of use. The only way I have found around it (since for some reason Lexus decided it wasn't useful to be able to enter phone number from the screen :tsktsk: ) is to use an old SIM card and a PC to edit the phone list. Let me know if you want me to explain how! Cheers.
  3. Easily possible usig POI's but I'm sure Lexus corporate are having nightmares at the mere suggestion of providing that type of info - witness the sat nav greying out over 2 mph...
  4. I had the same problem with a W800i and since my previous phone had worked fine with my 400h, I complained to my phone provider. 4 phones later and now it works fine! I think there are issues with the Sony Ericsson bluetooth software...
  5. I had exactly the same problem with a new Sony Ericsson W800i - I sent my phone back 4 times because each time there was a slightly different bluetooth fault manifestation. My final phone works fine. I *think* that there are slight discrepancies with the way bluetooth protocols are programmed into phones and the Lexus is very unforgiving considering how stoneage it is compared to other bluetooth systems. The only solution I can offer is either a) demand a replacement handset until the protocols like each other or B) try to download new software to your handset. This last option wouldn't work with mine because Vodafone had locked the handset for phone software upgrades - I think this can be overcome by 'unlocking' your phone at an independent phone retailer. Good luck! Loop
  6. Thanks for that. I suspect that it checks against the DVD installed in the car so if you change the setting, the nav may not work, although I wonder what would happen with an imported vehicle? I'm *hoping* that it'll change back again easy enough if i try it! Time to put my money where my mouth is...? ---Gulp---
  7. There is no assured way of stopping the squeaks because it depends on how they started - normally you need to bed them in for a few hundred miles (ie don't stamp hard on the stop peddle if you can avoid it). If you get them too hot when they are still fresh it can result in squeaks. Take the pads off and try these two things; I've put some warnings in Capitals so please don't be offended as they are quite important! 1) Put a piece of fine sandpaper flat onto a bench, put the pad flat onto the paper and gently rub the braking material to remove only the top layer of the breaking surface - DO NOT MAKE THE PAD UNEVEN it will impair performance and could damage your callipers. Brake dust isn't good for you so take precautions. 2) put a thin layer of Copper-Slip on the BACK of the pad before you refit it - DO NOT PUT ANY ON THE BREAKING SURFACE. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN HERE - IF IN DOUBT DON'T DO IT as it could result in your breaks not working so test your car somewhere safe before you go onto the road. Failing that, it is usually the precise dimensions and design (ie material density etc compared to the original Lexus part) of the replacement pad that is causing it and there's little you can do except try a different make :-( Cheers, Loopy
  8. [ Interestingly enough, this sub-menu has a setting for target market (US, JAP, EU RHD, EU LHD, etc etc.).. I'm just curious if it's actually the same system that is installed in the US, and if one simply has to change it to a "US" version in order to make use of the other hidden features available to our colonies on the other side of the pond... The downside is that I think that it may need to verify the setting against the version of the DVD loaded into the satnav system... I've not even dared to try it though... has anyone else by chance taken the plunge on this ? L. What makes you think that the DVD version needs to be verified? Is that necessary on other sub menu functions? I might have a pop at it this week, let you know how I get on...
  9. I'm in support too - I can't make the meeting but you'll get my name in a PM. Good luck!
  10. When I took delivery of my RX Sept 05, the RH screen didn't work at all and the remote has never really worked that well. Not very impressed with the DVD solution in the SEL - would have at least expected a decent bit of kit... Great car, shame about the finishing touches - savnav/phone switching off while moving, poor DVD player installation, stoneage bluetooth... Loop
  11. Put me on the list too! I have found a sub menu on the system setup screen After entering the 'secret menu' (Menu or Info then side lights on/off 3 times), you then push top left and bottom right of the screen alternately. This takes you into a new menu which has a few new gizzmos. Unfortunately I can't actually find anything to do with the phone/satnav override setting but it may help someone else figure out where it is! For info, I've only tried this on my '05 RX400h... Another item for the grumbles list is that you can't actually enter a phone number and name into the memory without bluetoothing it across - how DAFT is that? This is particularly annoying if you have a phone which stores more than one number per name as the car only stores the last number for the named entry - there is a tedious solution to this but c'mon this is a Jap car and should be a bit further advanced than 1999 bluetooth. Cheers, Loop
  12. Westie, Bugsy and Dan, Thanks for your help - I'll be making a purchase and spending some time in the footwell I guess!! Cheers, Loop
  13. Does anyone know what aftermarket i-pod solutions are available for a UK 400h? I'm getting iritated by the 'tape with a wire' I've got at the moment because the sound quality is terrible... I have trawled the interweb but there doesn't seem to be any company that will guarantee their product will work in the UK spec 400h so was just wondering if anyone has any experience? Cheers
  14. Why don't you get the dealer to stop the seatbelt beeper? They did my 400h when i bought it but they may have done that because I told them I would not buy the car unless they stopped the beeping... I might ask them to do the satnav & phone thing next time I'm in !!
  15. I agree with the economy figures for winter/summer. My take on it is that there would be a significant aount of engine wear if it kept starting and stopping when it's cold, so it has to run until normal temperature is reached. With the colder weather (more or less 20 degrees colder than in summer), it takes longer to warm up ... therefore less fuel economy especially if you have a shortish trip to work. I agree about the engine kicking in too soon - you never seem to get the full benefit of the electric power unless you really are creeping along. Has anyone noticed that if you really boot it from stand still you can almost drain the batteries by the time you get to ...ahem... cruising speed?
  16. Like the look of those 20's!!! I wanted to change mine but when I asked I was told that I would have to mod the suspension - did you have to do that or was the deal talking out his ar**?
  17. I had the same problem, which is caused by multiple number entries for each name. You probably find that when you transfer the whole lot you only get the last number in the list for each name. The only solution is to bluetooth all your contacts to a PC to back them up, then transfer all the contacts to your SIM card (which can only take one number per name) then wipe your phone memory! Then transfer them back from your SIM to your phone memory and then transfer them to the car. After then restore the phone numbers from the PC back up. Very long winded I know but the only solution I found so far... :mat: BTW Have you had any problem with the phone connecting then disconnecting after five minutes?
  18. Hi there, Got a 400h at the beginning of Oct 05 and had no probs with the main or aux battery yet - I agree that it seems odd the juice from the traction batteries can't be used, in fact why didn't they just do away with the 12v system and use the big electric engines to start the petrol engine... If you bought your car from Lexus Poole (as I thought I read somewhere) then be prepared to wait to have it looked at. I nmy car, one of the DVD screens in the back has never worked. Twice they have not shown up when they say and failed to fix it once may just be bad luck...
  19. Yeah, just like that flamming disclaimer you have to agree to before you can even use the system. Surely they could add to the text to say if you're daft enough to look at the screen while driving, it may limit your life expectancy and keep the screen active all the time? I'm sure there must be a switch in the software to fix it, can any anonymous Lexus technician's tell us where?
  20. Am I missing something obvious then? When I stop the screen lights up.As the same thing happens with the RDS TMC what use is it if you want to check current traffic reports on the move? ← Lexus have made sure that you can't play with the screen whilst driving (except for a few functions) because we can't be trusted not to get distracted from the road!!! This is most frustrating when you have a passenger who doesn't need to focus on the road ... anyone at Lexus reading this? Connect the passenger seatbelt sensor to the speed sensor on the Sat Nav so the system knows when there is someone free to operate the system...please? On that note, does anyone know how to bypass the speed sensor so it can be operated by a passenger whilst moving??? I think I'm responsible enough to have a fully enabled system. :duh:
