Hi guys, WD was the first thing I did,and that didn't achieve anything sadly. I'll have a look at how to pop the barrel out,but from looking at it with the bottom part of the dash removed,it looks pretty solid and impenetrable. I've been offered a complete lock set and key,but thats money that i didn't really want to spend you know? I'll have another look tonight and see if I can get it out.

Hi guys,looking for some help and inspiration. Last night I went out to the car to shut the window,went to put the key in the ignition,and it wouldn't turn. ow I'm not a heavy handed kind of person,but from what I can make out it looks as though the barrel has slipped in a little and won't allow the key to turn. I can get it to the Acc(essory) position, but no further. Also, the steering lock hasn't engaged,and I'm thinking the two are linked. Any advice or tips would be appreciated,as the next step is to re-lock and re-key the car. Which I'm envisaging will be £££

everything got a good dousing in the old faithful andy.. it's not an import that i'm aware of. it is still for sale,but that has been somewhat delayed due to the car being hit by a lorry on friday. Nothing major damaged but now I have to wait for the insurance companies to settle...

fixed thank you. Although the offending connector was blue...

many thanks andy,sadly the car is now for sale,but I'll have another look tonight. The strange thing is that my under the rear seat is as dry as a bone. I'll check in the boot also.. tom

Had the rear squab out and couldn't see a connector down there. Is it behind the backrest portion of the seat? Really doing my head in,seriously thinking about selling the car.

The stereo in my Ls400 (1992) is starting to play up. Initially it started just cutting out if i cornered,braked or accelerated with anything other than gentleness. Even the change in momentum from pressing resume on the cruise control would sometimes cause it. It's got to the stage now where if I switch the stereo on it works for about 5 seconds then cuts out. The surprise twist is that if I turn the volume control all the way up to max you can just make out the music. Now I think it has something to do with the steering..the reason being that this morning it actuallly managed to play for 11seconds,but as soon as I turned a corner- cut off. I've also found previously that whilst sat in a car park and turning the lights and indicators on the stereo would burst into life at the point the lights were activated,then cease. This makes me wonder that it could be something electrical, my firsst theory was a loose earth in the boot maybe arcing out,but then discovering that it was affected with minimum momentum I wondered if it was a trapped wire in the steering column. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Ayn hints to stop it driving me up the wall?

ah...good point..it appears yours is about 2-3" closer to the centre than mine..there goes that plan..

steve could you put up a pic of the rear of the car with the boot open please? I'm trying to work out if I could fit US ligths to mine and whether they'd catch on the boot.

I do like those lights,I'd really like a jap/us rear number plate panel,same for the front. Wondering if I bought us rear lights,they would go far enough in so as to give the effect of the aforementioned panel..hmm.

my girlfriend runs the ecstas on her 2.4 A4. They do slip a little if cornering hard and don't grip as well as the goodyear eagles used to. But they are a lot less £!

the nice firm kick you feel as the car shifts in to another gear at 6000rpm.. and everything else goes backwards :D

I bought my MK1 LS for very little and I've got to say the only things that i don't like about i are the wallowly feel from the back and the lack of,shall we say, atmospheric noise inside the car. My girlfriend has a 2.4 A4 on a manual box and the 0-60s are similar for both cars,but she says the Lexus feels slow. I think it comes down to the whole car rather than just the engine etc. The audi is a lot lighter and firmer,because thats what it was supposed to be. If I keep the LS then plans are to lower it a lot, particularly at the back and change the wheels to reduce the ballon tyre roll. They're still a big good looking beast. Just needs to roar a bit more...

gents, thanks for your assistance. I tried a drop of wd (before reading the 2nd reply!) and to no prevail. The lock simply will not move anti-clockwise. I think the door card will have to come off so i can see the mechanism. Has anyone removed a door card? Daft question,but i have removed them on several other vehicles and there always seems to be a bolt hidden somewhere that you can't see... T

Left my car in a public car park on the weekend,and when i came back to it and tried to unlock it i found that the lock was twisted in the hole to the right by about 30'. I couldn't fit my key in the slot and ended up having to unlock the car from the passenger side. I managed to turn the lock back to its original vertical position,but it won't unlock still,and takes only a small movement (perhaps not even half of previous) to lock the car. Has anyone got any tips for removing door cards and any problems that may have been encountered before with door locks? The car is a 1992 LS400

has anyone got a rear spring out of the car that they would be able to measure for me please? I need - -free length -coil thickness -number of coils it would be really helpful! thanks

26,got a quote for the soon to arrive LS400 at £409...Prob end up with Adrian Flux cos they currently insure my (very modded- 10 out of 11 on the mod sheet) scorpio. And NU don't like mods
