  1. I think all things point to the fuel - but some people reckon that supermarket fuel is a better bet to buy because it gets replaced so regularly i.e. not sitting in the tank for long periods...... Any idea where I need to be looking for the OBD connector?? I hae a chance of getting the codes read to see the fault but not sure where the required plug is. Cheers.
  2. Nothing to report on this other than both cars still have the lights on and continue to drive fine. I think the Merc needs the light reset as it comes on even after the battery has been disconnected for 48 hours. The Lexus light will go off but come back on within 30mins of driving. Where would I find the OBDII connector on the Lexus iS200 ? Is it in the engine compartment or in the cabin somewhere?
  3. Thanks for the above. there's been a bit of a development in this issue. I was driving my wifes 200SLK on the weekend and the engine management light came on. Now two cars in a week seems a bit odd. I'd done about 20miles since filling up the merc at an Asda's petrol station (normal unleaded). i thought back to what I'd done with the Lexus and remembered - exactly the same! Engine light on within 20 miles of an asda fill up. Now two different garages were used (but both within Cardiff) so it's not conclusive but has anyone heard anything like this in the past? I've put Tesco's 99 in this morning so will do about 50 miles before pulling the batery to see if it resets and cures the error. I'll let you know. The other possibility is that I really am that unlucky to see two wanring lights on two different cars in a week! TM
  4. Any recommendations on where to get one from?? I'm assuming the car's connector is under the steering wheel somewhere? Also is there a list on here as to what problems the fault code would relate to? Cheers, TM
  5. I've had a look through the searches but can not find a way I can read the ECU codes without some sort of OBD tool. Is there a way this is possible or do I need to take it to a garage that has the facility? The engine management light came on the other night on my 1999 iS200, although the car drives and starts fine. I disconnected the battery and drove it the 20 miles to work and all was OK - but half way home the light came on again - with no change to the way it drives. I have an old MR2 that will flash the dashboard lights to show stored ECU codes - is there not a similar system on the Lexus?? Also any ideas what it could be? Car is getting on a bit now at 160,000 miles so I guess there are lots of possibilits. Cheers, TM
  6. Cheers mate, will keep that in mind. So, best start looking at new head units then. Why do cars do that? You fancy one little upgrade then before you know it you've spent a shedload? TM
  7. I've not completely forgotten about this! Been too busy with work since december (about 4 weeks spent at home between now and then) and the IT section have stopped all our web access for non work related stuff, the gits! Anyway, my first step was to get the Grom kit to get my ipod hooked up, but since reading other stuff on here and my having an early (1999) iS200 wihich probably uses the 13902 h/u I thought I'd pull the unit out and check before buying anything. When I do get home (I'm in Japan at the moment) I will have renewed interest in this, just can't get the time at the moment. I'll try and keep abreast of things but if anyone wants to post their findings or comments then feel free. Regards, TM
  8. Thanks for the info. Didn't realise that this was ongoing. Excellent to find an affordable solution in the UK. Redz - when you say you need an aux-in is that just the piece of kit from GROM or is there some other thing required. Also How do you get the video from the iPod onto the screen. I understand there are some RCA / phone wires available. Do these just plug into the aux -in? Aplogoies for sounding a bit thick in the questions but stuff like this is a bit new to me. Cheers, TM
  9. No worries. Please see below for new thread. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=54961 TM
  10. Following on from another thread on here I thought this topic deserved it's own, so here goes. For some time I've wondered about the possibilities of using the OE sat nav screen for showing DVDs or playing a PS2 type games console. Recently I saw a member had succesfully fitted a reversing camera using the screen as a display so I'm now looking into the work / cost involved of a tasty install. Now I'll own up and say that I'm not the most clued up on gadgets and leccy things (I prefer nuts and bolts myself) so would be greatful if we could keep things as simples as possible. Currently I have more questions than input so would like to know of anyones experinece / ideas of this. The ideal set up for me would be; 1. An audio only source for iPods / MP3 players. I belive the GROM aux in is currently a pretty good option for this. 2. A reverse camera install with video only feed. (Ideally with an automatic switching function). 3. An in car DVD player with both audio and video feed. 4. A PS2 in car, again with an audio and video feed. For simplicity it may be best to JUST fit the PS2 in order to use the games and DVD playing functions. 5. The DVD / PS2 (or other sources) would need some sort of auto switching system. Ideally this would switch in the audio and video as a matched pair. Other members may have additional requirements such as freeview tuners, car PC hook up etc. Currently I'm happy to use the OE sat nav screen but I understand some members will have binned this and be running an aftermarket head unit with or without an integral screen. Not sure what connection options are available so would be keen to hear from anyone with any ideas. Obviously cost is a major issue with a topic like this and covering all bases as far as resonable cost and using quality components may cause the odd disagreement. I have emailed a Lexus Soarer specialist and got some quotes that were a bit on the high side. I am willing to do as much as possible myself and would be keen to learn whatever I can. For those who have not seen the earlier info/questions etc on this please see THIS THREAD. If we could keep all replies relating to additional sources on this new thread that would would be great. Regards, TM
  11. First of all, sorry to the original poster for putting up the thread that started the slip from his topic. If any moderators would prefer I started a separate thread then just let me know. I have been keen on getting other signals in / out of my OE sat nav screen for some time. Not being very knowledgable in this area has been the problem. If anyone has a solution then I would be most interested in getting more info. Ideally a PSP2 could give games and DVD capability then I suppose a freeview TV tuner would cover all bases. Is there some sort of kit that could do this easily / cheaply? As stated let me know if you'd prefer a fresh thread on the subject. Regards, TM
  12. Looks like a nice set up. How does the camera connect to screen? (Can not see the ebay add at the mo as it's blocked on my works PC). Is there anything needed to get the sat nav screen to accept the camera signal? - some sort of interface etc? Always wondered about getting the stock sat nav screen to show signals from a DVD player or PS2 or something - is this possible? Cheers TM
  13. Sounds very similar to the problem I had (see thread also titled rear suspension bushes). If it;s the same location as mine (see drawing in thread) then getting poly bushes maybe difficult due to the requirement of this bush to provide some rear wheel alignment (camber I think). I bought some poly-urethane bar from an engineering supplies and was going to turn some up on a lathe. After looking at the problem I saw the alignment requirment first and then thought I'll give it a go anyway. Then I tried to remove the knackered bushes ......... couldn't budge them at all. Wouldn't be suprised if it could only be done with a press. Let us know how you get on. TM
  14. it looks like we're both in the same predicament! My post realtes to the rear suspension bushes (you can see it in the list not far from yours). I have found a download from a workshop manual (the link is in my post) so what i plan on doing is printing off the corresponding pages and taking it to the garage for the mot. Then when he fails a particular bush I'm going to confirm it with him on the diagram. Fensport have a page on their website that lists all the TRD polybushes that are available for the Lexus 200. When the problem bush is confirmed I'm going to order a replacement from them and hopefully do the job without need for replacing the whole arm. I hope it all goes to plan. Can you do me a favour and let me know how things go?? I find info for DIYers a little lacking on here sometimes. TM
  15. Does anyone know if there are any Platinum silver sports grilles left in any dealers? Also do dealers do mail order?? Cheers, TM
