  1. Best option long term is to get some 16 inchers with snow tyres. That was what I was going to do but never got round to it. Fortunately Glasgow looks clear and dry. Maybe a good time to hire a 4x4 for a couple of days if you do need to get around. :winky:
  2. Manual for manual I agree, but the auto is phenominal when overtaking.
  3. I've used zymol cleaner wax which is good, especially on a black car ! Currently using meg' products which aren't bad, although in the spring will try the klasse stuff - that blue GS there looks stunning by they way.
  4. Mine still seems ok...Bought December last year and 6000 miles now on the clock.
  5. The Black one could have been me if it was last week, either Tuesday Glasgow to Edinburgh or Wednesday Edinburgh to Glasgow. Reason for my trip was your other point. I've been very disappointed by the aftersales service at Glasgow, so took mine to Edinburgh to see if they could sort out the mess. Suffice to say I now have a silent car again, plus a couple of stories about the abilities of the Glasgow mechanics. Use Edinburgh :D
  6. On a recent run on A roads, some dual and steady motorway @ 75ish, my 250 SE Auto managed 42mpg....best yet with around 4500 miles on the clock. Trip distance about 200 miles. Aircon was on, and outside temp around 25 degrees. :D
  7. I'm also having problems with Arnold Clark's Glasgow dealership. They seem unable to sort out the issues with my IS250. Their customer service has failed on occasion too. I'm going to try my car at Lexus Edinburgh, as they appear to have a good reputation which, as everyone north of the border knows, is not something Mr Clark and crew enjoy. Will let you know how I get on, in the meantime good luck for Wednesday.
  8. Changed my insurance, went to switch cars and the one they had allocated me wasn't there, so had to change insurance again...thanks Direct Line ! The dealers surely wouldn't let you drive it away on a 3rd party only basis, as its 25-30k worth of car and they won't want to be in a position where they cannot recover that should it be written off. Anyone know what the policy is with Lexus Edinburgh courtesy cars, as these guys are getting my business from now on.
  9. Oh yes. Car will be going back in, but there's one question. Do I take it back to the dealer who couldn't do the recall properly.....or do I take it somewhere 50 miles away ?
  10. Had mine done a few weeks back at Lexus Glasgow. Car came back dirtier than when I dropped it off, no evidence of fuel added, but bottle of champers was left on the passenger seat. Courtesy car had range of 29miles showing, so I had to put fuel in it immediately, and it smelled like an ashtray. Car was also in to take care of two more rattles. One ratttle has gone away, the other still there. Ohh...and I now have a rattle from the passenger seat belt which wasn't there before the recall work was done. Letter to Lexus GB imminent m'thinks Not impressed.
  11. Lexus have a bit of a reputation for corrosion appearing on the wheels. Have some on mine already at 8 months old. I'm going to get this changed at service time, so I'm not stressing about any minor kerb damage.....new set of alloys every year for the first three years.
  12. Glasgow does have an area in the showroom for collection, although their dealership is very cramped and they really do need to change premises. When I collected my car I got diddly....no flowers or chocolates for the missus, not even a Lexus brolley :shutit:
  13. I would go on the basis that the rattles could still be present. I'm still taking mine in AGAIN to try and get them sorted out. Even after going in for the belt recall, there is now another rattle on the passenger height adjustment. Very disappointed with Lexus Glasgow. While mine was in, I had a courtesy car and that rattled from behind the aircon controls. That was an 06 plate, so should have been rattle free. Be very careful, although the rattles on mine only started after a few months, so even on a test drive you may not hear anything. Sorry for the doom and gloom, but getting totally fed up with these annoying niggles on an otherwise superb car.
  14. yes that is it in a nut shell..but when are lexus going to wake up!!! alan Not sure it's just the new IS. New GS appears to suffer rattles, as did the RX350 (with only 60 miles on it) that I drove at the Glasgow open road event. Add to that the dissatisfaction of the IS diesel drivers with 6th gear being unusable and lower than expected fuel economy and Lexus sure have a problem.
  15. Went to one just outside Glasgow last weekend. They didn't have the LS models, as they are due for replacement, but had everything else. Would recommend you arrive before your scheduled time, as everyone else seems to and the drives are on a first come first served basis. GS450h was the highlight for me. Didn't get time for the RX400h but drove the RX350 which was good. RX300 now an ex model I think.
  16. Drove a RX350 yesterday at a lexus open road session, and it had a rattle in the dash !...only 60 miles on the clock too. Can't believe they would use one with a rattle at an event to encourage people to buy. Anyway....compared to my IS250 Se Auto, I found the RX had a surprisingly good ride, better than the IS. Thought the auto box not as good. Mine shifts a lot quicker and smoother. Think the RX is 5 speed rather than 6. Steering on the RX very light compared to the IS. Didn't get to drive the RX400h, but did drive the GS450h which was awesome. Quiet eerie driving at low speed on electric only. Acceleration was fantastic. Also drove 220d Sport and was not impressed. Notchy gearbox, limited flexibility of the engine. Quite quick if you kept it between 2-4000 revs mind....wouldn't keep up with the 400h in front of me though ! Can't answer your other questions, as don't own one....sorry
  17. I think the engine revs stay up whilst cold to warm the engine up quicker so that emissions will be reduced. My car revs at about 1300 for the first few minutes and then settles down to about 600.
  18. My last out of town trip...mixed motorway and A roads returned 37.7 over around 120 miles. :D Now back city driving.....same tank though and down to 32.
  19. There may be ticking noises from the injectors, but it ain't no diesel :winky:
  20. Car is fantastic...auto gearbox is a dream....seats v.comfortable....dealers ok! Only problem I've had is the dash rattle which is now sorted after one visit to the dealer. Like others, have to question why the boot and fuel cabin buttons not illuminated, and don;t like the clock and airbag indicator in the centre console, but minor quibbles really.
  21. My 250SE was rattle free until around 1400 miles, then got the rattle in the dash. Sorted first time by Lexus Glasgow, and now all is silent again :D
  22. The gearing change should mean that the sport accelerates quicker, 6th becomes more usable but unfortunately the engine will be revving higher for any given speed so the fuel economy will suffer...unless of course if you can use 6th more often where it may balance out a bit as for the non-sport guys 6th is virtually unusable.
  23. Lots of sleet, snow, wind and rain in Glasgow today. ...its baltic !
