The Ls460
bill jarvis replied to C4MYC's topic in Lexus GS 300 / Lexus GS 250 / Lexus GS 430 / Lexus 450h / Lexus GS 460 Club
Nobody buys Lexus for their "badge snobbery", they buy them because they are great cars. I suspect the LS460 will be their greatest, it certainly looks the part. bill -
No, but who said there were "loads and loads"? bill I don't know what motorways you drive on then mate but all I've ever driven on seem to have loads and loads of cars on them.. Suits your argument to say so, I suppose. I've been on many, where I've been the only car for hundreds of yards, both in front and behind. The M5 in Devon after 9pm is a case in point. bill He has a purpose and a point, it's his job and he gets paid for it. bill

bit like speeding tut tut Going fast at a safe distance from other equally fast traffic isn't dangerous. I would suggest the average speed on many motorways, is around 80mph and at least has a purpose, ie getting to your destination quicker. Standing still whilst burning the tread off your tyres, serves no other purpose than to make the driver look stupid (at least in the eyes of the sensible). bill the point is BILL, that some may say that you speeding is dangerous, pointess and stupid... whats that advert just 5mph over 30mph can mean the difference of a child living or dieing, so quit your judgemental attitude..........or die on the flames that you bring with your posts... The point is speeding isn't pointless, it does more efficiently what a car is meant for, to get you from one place to another quickly. I'm not advocating exceeding speed limits in every situation, anyone with a degree of intelligence must be aware there are places it is safe to exceed speed limits and places it isn't safe to do anywhere near the speed limit. I would doubt however those who would spin their wheels unnecessarily and wear their tyres out, would be sufficiently intelligent to make a safe judgement regarding speed and safety. Maybe the only ones to judge the rights and wrongs of those who speed, are those (if any) who have never done so. Who's going to cast the first stone? bill

If the dude wants to spin off burning rubber - and no one gets hurt, of course - it's his wallet that's paying for the smoke I don't care. I just see this as a totally stupid exercise, anyone can put their foot on an accelerator, it's not exactly rocket science. Just seems that certain people see this sort of thing as clever, or perhaps even aspire to it. I bet they're all recent school leavers. bill

That's 7 more years than they give for the 430 engine, they must be confident of its reliability. I suppose with the stress shared by two types of propulsion, it provides an easier mechanical life. bill I think it is more to reassure customers of the hybrid system. I can see them having to replace quite a few batteries in the warranty period. The car is probably priced to include another set of batteries. Lexus say the battery has a 10 year life but it's new technology, I suppose nobody really knows. bill

If your that concerned about money I'd suggest that you don't change cars every year. Keep the Lexus for 10 years, it should be run in by then and it will have cost you next to nothing per month. I can see the appeal of a new car every few years but don't get why people then moan about the depreciation. You either want a new car and accept the drop in value as a fact of life or you keep the car until it costs you money to run and then buy another. Precisely. bill

I am not acting "smug" about anything, merely curious as to why anyone would want a GS430 in preference to a GS450h. Regarding the sub £30,000 GS430, I searched on Autotrader and it came up with two new ones, both around £44,000 http://www.insuresupermarket.com/newcars/N...reReg_include=0 So I'm not quite sure where the £30,000 comes into the equation. Don't get me wrong, the GS430 is a terrific car, just the GS450h is much better in almost every respect and I can see no place for the 430 in the Lexus range. They appear to have created their own competition. bill The Hybrid components and the battery are warranted for 5 years 60,000 miles. The technology has been tested thoroughly for years in the Prius. bill

If it is possible to buy the 430 for so little, it reinforces my point of it being a lesser vehicle to the 450h and Lexus needing to heavily discount them to sell them. Before you make a decision as to whether you would exchange one for your vehicle, perhaps you should try one. Nobody has come up with one valid point (except boot space) where the 430 scores over the 450h. I have listed seven advantages for the 450h, since then people have mentioned two others, no congestion zone charge and almost certainly much less depriciation. Perhaps instead of blanket dismissals, you could list what you consider advantages for the GS430. By the way, pollution is nationwide (try the M62 at rush hour), even the Peak District exceeds safe pollution levels at times. bill

I can't see a single valid reason why anyone would buy a GS430 in preference to the GS450h, apart from the boot space, a minor issue to most. Personally, I'd say the 430 is doomed and will shortly be deleted. bill Congratulations on your 450h - I'm glad you are pleased with your purchase. Why not let others enjoy theirs? The post was questions on the 430, not 'put down my car please'. You can enjoy what you like, I was merely asking why buy an inferior vehicle for more money. Funny how people get touchy over their cars 'innit? bill
