  1. ...only thing was they left the steering-wheel off-centre. On the third attempt they checked the castor angle and found it was out by 1.5 degrees, max should be 0.5. It can't be adjusted so its time to talk to Mr Lexus about a warranty jobby.
  2. At least it's still better than the BMW 318i which is 2 ltr 6 cyl and only 143 bhp. :D
  3. It seems expensive too - an extra £8000 for a larger engine :o but I guess there's more to it than that!
  4. Mine occasionally fails to start first time I turn it over too but then is fine second time. I keep it outside all the time too. At first it happened a bit more often, probably 'cause it takes longer to get the 6 cylinders moving than with my old cavalier so I was letting go too soon. There's definitely something else wrong (other than me) but like you say - just very infrequently. As for the others.... 1. 5 x 17 inch Alloys pitting - I've only got 16's (sob!) and ok so far although textured surface is murder to get the brake dust off. 2. cd player - OK 3. Driver's seat - motor failure & creaks - never had a problem with it cause it's not electric!! 4. ABS ecu - abs failure - nope, OK 5. Clutch pedal - clicking noise - nope, OK 6. Front brake discs - corrosion - praps I'd better have a look at them... 7. Headlamp washer - poor alignment - don't have these either! 8. Floor mats - recalled due to catching throttle - nope, but new in Sept last year. 9. Exhaust chrome tip - corrosion - mine's just a mucky black colour - no chrome. 10. Rusting stone chips on roof - obviously not galvanised - body OK so far. [Edited on 13-1-2002 by javadude]
  5. no mods, full no claims, 33 years old, no points but one minor accident, £250 excess, about £560 with Equity Red Star. (I'm in Reading which is supposed to be a high risk area.) I'm gonna give Lexus a go next time to see if they're any cheaper plus I guess you aren't forced to use some cheap "approved" non-lexus repair centre.
  6. I'm curious - has anyone here got an IS300?
  7. wot u getting, UltraViolet? [Edited on 11-1-2002 by javadude]
  8. Go to User Control Panel then Edit Profile and change the Time Offset to -5 hours. That seems to make the times appear about right. Perhaps that can be set as the default for new users?
  9. I used to live in the north east - Hull  but I always was a northerner - I was born up north in Kettering, Northamptonshire. [Edited on 10-1-2002 by javadude]
  10. At the start and end of the rds signal it beeps - its after the end beep that it goes back to the tuner instead of the CD so I don't think its the radio station at fault. ok so bbc berkshire do sometimes leave the signal and talk about all sorts of inane stuff but in this case it beeps and goes to radio 1. I think I've got a prob - i'll talk to the lexus boys. Perhaps it's a known fault with the stereo in the S - I think it's different to the one in the SE/Sport.
  11. Sometimes when I'm listening to a CD and a traffic announcement cuts in it returns to preset 1 on VHF instead of the CD. Anyone else get this? Am I doing something wrong or is this a warranty issue....
  12. How about the image from the centre of the home page with the url underneath?
  13. Got my wheel alignment checked and fixed yesterday (guess I've been drifting too much?). They had a flash computerised system that let you watch the settings get adjusted on a monitor in reception. Anyway they got all the settings spot on spec - the guy said he'd never seen that before - it made his day - I guess it was the first lexus he'd done. Lexus quality...
  14. Found out yesterday that we live in a "deprived area" so we'll get nursery vouchers from 3 years old, instead of 4 for our youngest. Cool. I guess we're deprived 'cause I couldn't afford the Sport trim?
  15. This morning it was wierd - it wasnt icy but the roads were still slippery. I lost the back end a bit on the exit to a roundabout but me and the TC sorted it. A bit further on a sierra pulled onto a dual carriageway and fish-tailed all over both lanes just in front of me. Bet he turned a funny colour.
  16. dunno about the midlands but I got the ones on my Cavalier done at Elite Wheels/Tyres in Reading. They did a good job. I think they just send them away though. Perhaps you could give them a ring and see where they send them - 0118 950 4100.
  17. 2000 Platinum Silver IS200 S mods - booster...cushion, child seat, half eaten custard cream.... [Edited on 7-1-2002 by javadude]
  18. So they're not heated already? I wondered if they were or were just well designed 'cause I don't use much screen-wash in the water and mine have been fine. They haven't frozen up once even bombing down the M4 in minus temps.
  19. ... and the only bike to beep while reversing...
  20. just do what my neighbour does - reverse until the lexus behind moves
  21. yea - the TRC seemed to still work on mine with SNOW on too
  22. Third Day, a US rock group (www.third-day.com), especially their Conspiracy Number 5 album which is excellent, or U2. For something a bit more mellow Dido or Dire Straits. [Edited on 2-1-2002 by javadude]
  23. I've an S with the standard 16-inch wheels and the narrower tyres (and hence pressure over a smaller surface area) but they didn't help much. I was visiting my parents in Kettering at the weekend and there was a short hill at the end of their street covered in a couple of centimetres of snow. It was round a corner and on a junction so there was no way of getting a run up. I used TC/snow and the car just crawled and slithered from side to side a bit but eventually it did make it. My old fwd cavalier would have done it much easier. Perhaps if I'd had the 17's I'd not even have made it though? As for tyres I have Yokohamas A041s on the rear and a new set of Pirelli P9000's on the front. Think I might try some P9000s on the rear when they need a change - they look like they might be a better bet for bad weather. [Edited on 2-1-2002 by javadude]
  24. 2nd hand M3? (sorry am I allowed to say that here?)
