  1. For anyone who has been following my story on the constant failures that My Current IS220D has been giving will know what a struggle and pain in the :tsktsk: it has been over the past 8 Months, Well Yesterday I went to Have a new battery put in the 220D at Lexus Oxford and walked out with AN IS200 The car I Loved so much before I decided to UPGRADE :shutit: I had absolutely no intention of buying another motor I just got a bit bored and started wandering round the yard :shutit: Some people may find it a bit of a shock choosing to go back from a new to old IS but I think it will definitely be the right choice I signed all the paperwork today and collect the car Thursday for anyone interested its on Lexus Oxford's site the platinum Ice 05SE I'll post some pic's just as soon as I can, One thing has already really upset me............ I paid for the battery before I bought the new car Thanks for listening
  2. Hi Folks, After speaking to Lexus Service the battery is not covered under any warranty and they can't get me in for a new battery and full diagnostic check till early next week as they are fully booked..... but since the motorway Run I gave her she's started 1st time every time for now so after i've had a full check up at lex next week i'll let you all know thanks for the input. Scarlett Yes i do mostly short journeys the engine is barley warm when I get to work in the mornings so its probably that i'll see what the diagnostics throw up next week Cheers Gordon
  3. Hi Wozza, Yeah I've had it with this motor I really really have but with depreciation and finance in the same sentence I'm afraid I'm stuck with it for a while Yeah I had exactly this same problem a while back and Lexus told me that it was some radio type wave interference that had caused the failed starts..... To be honest I did not believe them... I mean if it was a immobilizer fault then i hope to god that it could not just be jump started so easily??? if you know what i mean Oh well back to Lexus again over the weekend its just a case of weather I'll be driving there myself or if it will be on the back of a RAC truck again
  4. Hi all. I've not been on here for a while hope all is well? I had a problem a few weeks/5-6 back where my 220D had to be jump started I put it down to the battery after a Visit to Lexus they said although the battery was a little low that was not the cause of the failed start, It was an immobilizer error that caused it........ Now again today started the car to leave work dead as anything she was but with the help of jump leads and a mate in a Volvo she was up and running again i took her for a 40Mile round trip up the motorway to charge the battery a little and she seems OK now, Do you think this is the battery? She has been sluggish on start up all week this happened a few days before the last time as well I don't want to by a new battery if this is a warranty issue if you get my meaning? Somebody suggested distribution Cap? whatever that is? Thanks Gordon
  5. Thanks for the responses guys, Some real horror stories there ouch.... I will be Changing to another Lexus (IS200) bought from a Lexus dealer and my current finance is with Lexus I'm just wondering how willing they would be to trade my current more expensive car for a cheaper IS200 a'm i likely to get any difference back or am I going to lumbered with my existing deal for the next 2 and half yrs?
  6. After 8 months of owning a 220D with all the problems and failures I've had..... I'd like to change and I'm looking at going back to the car I loved and miss so much yes The IS200 The problem I have is that I still have around 10.500K finance outstanding on the 220 I reckon its worth now around 12/13k does anyone know how it would work if i was to change to a cheaper car I'm not in a position to pay the finance and sell the car privately. If I do trade the car in for a old IS around 9/10K will they just transfer the existing finance? at a great loss to me I'm sure I'm not really sure how this all works and even more unsure of the options available does anyone have a better understanding of how it would work or what I could do? Much Appreciated
  7. Yeah in all honesty it was the owner before me done most of the miles. I've just come back from my local garage who done a drop test on the battery and its fine it was reading quite high so it looks like another trip to Lexus service on monday possobly something is draining the battery oh and just for the record anyone who needs a new battery anytime soon is looking in the region of 95-125Quid from the 3 quotes I received :shutit: Cheapest being TONY @ WIM by the way
  8. I think i may have been able to answer my own question.... After taking the car to be washed down at the local polish place they had to jump start it so I guess the battery is on its way out? its only 2 yrs old but has done nearly 75k so I guess thats no to bad Cheers Gordon
  9. Hi folks sorry if this has been brought up before.... But over the past two weeks I've had two very sluggish start up's she really struggles to tick over but eventually starts up its never resulted in a failed start I was just wondering if any fellow members have had the same problem? should I be contacting Lexus Service? both occasions haven't been particularly cold mornings so I'm not really sure what the problem is? I let it go the 1st time but now its happened again I'm starting to get a little worried we may have another problem? Any Input/advise appreciated Gordon
  10. Steve the receipt states all the usual bits done on a service and they have all been Ticked Name and shame thats a bit harsh Peugeot insurance(AXA) And before you say it i know he's got a vauxhall he changed his pugget for the vauxhall and just swapped the insurance over
  11. Wow thanks for all your thoughts and comments I'll try to answer most of the questions 1. I've been struggling to understand how the Insurance Company won't pay out... But he was told over the phone that they won't cover mechanical failure full stop and in reading the policy wording booklet backs this up. However your right no inspection has been carried out all the inspector has done is taken pictures he said it would be too expensive to do a forensic investigation............. So your right something don't add up He's not chasing his insurance just yet he's waiting for kwik fit to investigate as at this stage it's fair too presume its possibly there fault (trying to be careful what I say) and potentially more chance of getting more compensation etc etc from them Another Factor is my brother checked the engine straight after the service he could see that the cables connecting to the battery had not been re greased? the anti freeze had not been changed as he had a funky anti freeze that was red in color and was still red after the service (this should have been replaced) so all in all a rushed job anyway The service & M.O.T was completed in minutes according to the receipts a phone call to kwik fit determined a service alone should have taken two hours? Rabster No loss of power no warning lights the 1st indication was smoke belting out from the rear not the exhaust just the smoke from the engine going under the car then a bang from the engine bay he pulled over and STUPIDLY opened the bonnet and could see fire and smoke coming from as he remembers the very bottom of the engine bay on the right hand side???? Robb I've now checked with KF they would not automatically change the fuel line clips Thanks again for all your advise and input
  12. Even more bad news just heard from his own insurance company they won't pay out "we will not cover or replace any damaged parts due to mechanical failure" A bit harsh we pay all this money for insurance just to be hit with loopholes when we need to claim I'll certainly look more carefully at policy wording on my next renewal
  13. Fair comment I suppose maybe a little heavy handed lets wait and see I guess its just a general rule in my mind that all companies ranggle out of an expense if they can but we shall see
  14. Junior mechanic serviced the vehicle for a start. without yet a full mechanical/fire report (in hand)i know what you mean but you have to admit a car that never missed a beat to have a service with them and then to explode minutes later. Even if by some small chance it was not KF fault. but a simple wiring/mechanical failure then you need to ask how comprehensive their M.O.T checks are and why nothing was spotted within the service.
  15. Thanks for your comments its extremely worrying to know that he was 10mins away from picking his wife, 4yr old son and his 6month old daughter he said he had very little time on his own to get out before it exploded can you imagine the panic with 3 others on board in baby seats (not the wife of course) as you can imagine this escalated to kwik fit head office very quickly so its in their hands now I'm hoping that they resolve this fairly for all i can't imagine that an outfit such as them would want this sort of publicity. My view is they should think them-selfs lucky they could have been up on manslaughter charges........Rant over Cheers Gordon
  16. My brother in Scotland took his beloved 01 Vax Astra 1.8 SRI for a intermediate service and M.O.T at kwik fit on Friday Handed over £120 job done passed M.O.T flying colors even the mechanic commented on how immaculate it was for the age and how he obviously looked after it. 1 Mile down the road/Min's later The cars a complete RIGHT OFF it burst into flames in the middle of the road.......... Kwik fit were very kwik to deliver a courtesy car later that day until they could determine what caused the fire. They also sent out one of their inspectors to the compound the next morning to view the car but my brother quite rightly had asked the compound staff not to allow anyone near the vehicle until he has had an independent inspection. His own insurance company have now viewed the vehicle and been unable to determine any reason. as theres to much damage and a full investigation would cost more than the insurance value of the car. He's now waiting to here what kwik fit can find this afternoon. Why do I get the impression kwik fit won't take any responsibility for this????? Depending on the response I'm thinking we will probably have to drag this through the courts.... the insurance value £1700 will come know were close to paying back the money he borrowed for the car in the 1st place £5k Plus £500 spent on discs and pads and 4 new tyres just days before in preparation for the M.O.T What would you do??? I'd like to think that kwik fit would replace the vehicle and all the belongings with it Just for the record his wallet, tom tom,2x baby seats, cloths and other bits have all been destroyed as he never even had a chance to retrieve them. Gutted
  17. I'll second that he needed bringing down a peg or two It will hopefully sink into his head that he is not invincible and bring him back to reality.
  18. just for info... the cause of the white smoke revealed........EGR Valve knackered whatever that is?
  19. Great thanks for the info... its anoying me that this seems to be intermittent my service manager called me yesturday to say they had it on the ramps and could not find any white smoke and untill they find white smoke its hard to diadnoss the fault He's going to put it on the ramps again this morning and try it when its cold, but at this stage their just putting it down the cat converter being clogged up due to the change of the fifth injector he reckons the system is just clearing itslef out and should pass I'm going on holiday on monday and parking at gatwick if i have a breakdown because of this i won't be responsible for my actions mr service manager... I would insist on them checking the car again & even having it to test for a couple of days. I noticed a similar problem especially after sitting with the engine idling (normally in congestion) & then accelerating, I reported it & was told that if the smoke was white then it was fine & probably only condensation. A week later it was being recovered because the manifold was full of soot. Coincidence? Maybe but better safe than sorry....
  20. Apology accepted, I feel for you mate I really do. Insurance company's have quite a lot of leeway re:insurance excess/non fault claims..... normally they would let you off (but only if they can recoup from the other party) in your case they don't have one...... hence the reluctances to pay out Let me know how you get on Not putting you all in the same boat. I know most lorry drivers are knights of the road, etc., it's just that a some obviously need to pay more attention to the less robust vehicles around them. Mods, can one of you change "Drivers" to "Driver" in the topic title please? Ta. Anyway (and I mean no disrespect to GWilso by redirecting this topic straight back on track, point made, point taken, sorry if I've got your back up) back to my earlier question... to get insurance to fix it (paying the excess, telling them for the next five years that yes, I have had a claim in the last five years but it wasn't my fault, etc. etc.) or to get it done myself. Pop quiz hotshot, what do you do...?
  21. Thanks for the input mate much appreciated the car was towed away today by rac he told me that as i'd had the fith injector replaced that was the most lightly cause of the problem lexus phoned me a few hours later to say they could not find white smoke or any problems with the car??????????????
  22. HOLD ON A MINUTE I'M A LORRY DRIVER SO I'M A **** LORRY DRIVER AM I? YEAH YOUR PEED OF I WOULD BE BUT DON'T PUT US ALL IN THE SAME BOAT OK
  23. I've just checked the under the oil cap nothing there apart from a few splashes of oil i drove it around 20mins ago seems to be running as smoothly as normal I had the fith injector replaced under warranty last week i'm wondering if it something to do with that?
  24. Hi folks i have puffs off white smoke coming from the exhaust its intemittent but advised by dealer not to drive it and phone RAC which is done any ideas what it may be?
  25. I'm the 1st to admit i probably nip just over the legal limits when traveling in residential areas a lot of it has to do with the refinement of modern cars nowa days traveling at 30 on the outside sometimes feels like a crawl from the inside however the limit is the limit its the law if you get caught then take the punishment I would (if i was caught) However I don't agree with some points made that "35 in a 30 should be acceptable" after all if the limit was 35 most of us would travel at 40 and still have the same argument it would never end We should all keep our speed down on residential roads but motorways. there was discussions recently about increasing the speed limit but coming down harder on people who broke the new law's I agree wack it up to 150 and anyone over that gets locked up for 50yrs
