  1. No idea, pleaded guilty by post both times and that was the fine that came through. Gits. I did have a lot more free cash then and it was means tested so I guess they stung me for what they thought I could afford. Can't grumble though, I was on a three week honeymoon in Mexico for the last court date :P so i could hardly plead poverty :duh:
  2. I though the points were dealt with at the DVLA as well as court, and it doesn't make any difference if you have your license available or not. I was caught twice, once in 98 (65 in a restricted 50 on motorway - 5 points and £335 fine ) and in 99 (92 on the M40 - 4 points and £335 again :o ) and both times I did send my licence and they wrote the points on in biro. When we then moved house, lost my license and requested a new one - there they were printed in all their glory. They must have a record somewhere, whether it's actually written on your licence or not...
  3. LOL - I've never actually read the manual. They've covered most angles I reckon, all we need now is a Force Majeure clause and we're there!
  4. Neil, I fail to see how the brakes comment helps this discussion, it is about the locking which is not safety related and this fault is a problem which I have also encountered. It was resolved when the RAC van blocked whatever signal was interfering with it and I moved the car. The next day the locking was fine again. Rogue signals are an absolute pain for me at work (telecomms) and we can legislate, regulate and test to our hearts content - once a pirate radio station, taxi etc gets going it can mess it all up. There is also the point that you can implement a system to work in line with all the valid and licenced frequencies. Very true, but these systems can fail when people who do not to register with the RA or other such regulatory body start to transmit. The systems operated by Ford and Peuguot also are not comparable as they are different technolgies. The problem is intermittent and is caused by interference, this means it is not the base technology but an external influence. I can accept the point that they should be able to cope with this [albeit it is very hard to cover the unknown] but I am also pragmatic enough to see this as a very infrequent annoyance. If they manage a fix then great, if not then I'm not that bothered.
  5. As I said above, this is not a Lexus specific problem. I know of Lexus, Toyota (one in the same I know), Subaru, Mercs and a VW which have had the same problem. Also, the locking transponders and associated technology will be subbed out to someone like Lucas who would specialise in the technology. there is no point ranting, pointing fingers at, or getting indignant with Lexus as all they can feed back is to the manufacturers involved. The interference issue is also not a fault of the technology, which no doubt meets all CE regs with regard to interference as will other approved transmitters. When you get to pirate radio, home WiFi, taxi firms etc etc all putting out high power frequencies all over the spectrum you will get interference. This is where we need some tighter controls and regs to resolve the issue.
  6. Depends on how 'heroic' a driver you are :D For normal driving I can't see any reason why you'd want to turn it off, it's a safety device well worth having. I turned it off on my old 200 and nearly lost it on a greasy roundabout so left it on from then onwards. Strange thing on the 220d though, if you turn it off and large it on a slippy surface the car beeps (amazing, another beep ) and it seems to kick back in again - kind of makes the on/off button a bit redundant I reckon.
  7. I hardly ever use the PC at home so don't get any flak, rather not spend the few hours I'm there in the week locked in the study . If only she knew how much time at work I spend on t'internet then it'd be another issue altogether!
  8. As an opinion only, I think the lighter interiors look nicer on a darker car so with Brechin Slate I'd choose a black interior (Pembroke). I'd only choose between beige and black though - not keen on grey interiors myself
  9. Not sure on whether that's a good price or not but the dealer will make his margins no matter what - good trade in & no discount or bad trade in & discount off the sticker price - swings and roundabouts really!
  10. The things to expect from the diesel model are well documented on here, main points... Very noisy from start up on the outside, but nice and quiet on the inside. Engine has slight vibration at idle but really smooths out on the go No power before around 1600 rpm then typical turbo derv thump. This can make it feel sluggish off the mark but sit at around 35 in 3rd and floor it and you'll be at 90 (where laws allow obviously B) ) in no time. Overtaking is hilarious, it just pulls and pulls - they are so much faster than a standard 200, especially when you're moving. Fuel consumption is best considered 'satisfactory'. You'll be lucky to see a rolling average of 40 if you give it any sort of welly, considering the germans can average around 50 this is a major failing. Build quality is superb, the amount of kit is staggering, give the stereo some welly and hold on tight! It is VERY loud. You'll love it!
  11. Am I reading it right that someone has paid £4170 for it Isn't that a bit much or is the book value much higher than a normal IS?
  12. They're standard on the SE-L so will be available as parts I'd think. The wiring shouldn't be too hard either - I'm sure there are guides on here somewhere for how to do it. I'll search later if you can't find it..
  13. Ditto for me, I only thought this morning they are a bit pointless as I was holding the door handle by the time they came on :duh:
  14. I was just about to put babelfish :D The translation as a block is below, you may have to do it line by line. it doesn't recognise trade names or very technical terms Engine system * metal: PWR F? 1 black metal * head gasket: PWR heavy metal head gasket * turbine: PWR PE2020M turbo KIT * injector: PWR SH550 injector * fuel pump: PWR 255L/H fuel pump & timing belt: PWR super strong II timing belt * ラジエター: PWR ダブルローラジエター * ラジエターホース: PWR ラジエターシリコンホース *: PWR air impulse II * belt: PWR super V belt * ECU: PWR original ECU & filter: PWR magnetic power II oil filter Exhaust type * muffler: PWR φ 76.3 supersonic silencers - Drive system * clutch: PWR twin plate clutch Wrapping system * front bumper: ドゥーラックフロントバンパースポイラー reforming * side step: ドゥーラックサイドステップ reforming * rear bumper: ドゥーラックリアバンパースポイラー reforming * bonnet: Shift sport carbon bonnet * fender: Shift sport aero fender Interior system * meter: PBC (power boost controller) * meter: FSC (fan switch controller) Underside system * suspension kit: PWR パワーズダンパー PRO full KIT * rotor: PWR カーボンスリッドローター * brake pad: PWR RS550 brake pad * wheel: ヨコハマ AVS model T7 * tire: Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. アドバンネオバ
  15. Can't say I'm a big fan of it - looks like it was driven through a branch of A1 Motorspares and took most of the stock with it
  16. I'd think it would be Cov, I used them for 60k on my last Lexus and they were great. Had a warranty repair on my 220d (dubious also ) done on time and very good service. I think the issues are a possible 'blip' in what otherwise is faultless service in my experience :winky:
  17. Hi, I have this kit installed in my 220d and have only just had the engineer back to refit the mute wire as when Lexus changed my stereo under warranty they removed it and didn't tell me :tsktsk: Anyway, back to the install. I have had mine fitted as such. Control button is on the central console between the cupholder and gear gaitor (I only have welfare spec so no heated seat buttons to worry about :D ) The microphone is in the centre of the car on the light console I have a seperate speaker as it was not possible/recommended to connect to the back of the head unit. For mute, the wire needs to go to the amp rather than the head unit as this is now considered best practice. If you want specifics of the location of the control unit etc PM me and I'll find out.
  18. My youngest has the Maxi Cosi one but without the isofix fitments. Fits in the car no problems and without the isofix is closer to £100 from mothercare. The only seatbelt problem you get is with rear facing seats as it has to wrap around the chair, if you have one of these and are struggling then the only option is putting in the front and switching the airbag off.
  19. Hhhmmm, never really got anything but Tesco's as it's close to home and I get the points. Need to fill up today so I'll go to BP and see if I get any difference, my running average (all urban really) is around the 37 mark but it has stretched to it's highest of 45 for an 80 mile journey the other day at a steady indicated 80 on cruise. Might have to swap to BP it it adds as much as it does for you....
  20. There's been a few Starting in '89, own cars.. Cortina 2.0 GL - X reg Astra 1.3S MK1 - A reg Escort 1.3 Ghia - A reg Ford Orion - F reg From '95 Company cars Mondeo 1.8 GLX Escort Gti Rover 220 Gti Accord Type R - bloody superb! Volvo S40 T4 Lexus IS200 SE SAAB 9-3 2.0t Lexus IS220d - my first ever diesel!
  21. That is bloody awful!!! But, I might use it as an excuse not to wear my wedding ring on a boys night out later :winky:
  22. It's nothing Lexus have done wrong, merely interference with the transponder and has happened to a few different makes such as Subaru, Ford etc. I was stuck outside the car a few months back but by the morning the interference was gone and all was OK. You could try parking a different way round or in a different place if possible. I was only at Lexus Cov this morning and someone called in with a GS saying they couldn't get in (same problem as you), the engineer went out and rolled the car back 20ft and it worked fine. For being stuck whilst away from home, watch out for problems locking as this will indicate if you will have a problem getting back in again.
  23. You could try Air France Customer Relations PO Box 34435 London W6 7XE EDIT - Sorry, just read you are in HK so that address will be useless! Use the below. Or if you really want to go high you need to speak to their Excom (Executive Comittee) members. Try Gilbert Rovetto who is in charge of Flight Operations for the group or Pascal de Izaguirre who is in charge of Ground Operations. Address would be - AIR FRANCE Headquarters 45, rue de Paris 95747 Roissy-CDG Cedex France Telephone : 33 (0)141567800 Don't bother with the board as they have no responsibility, it works the same as where I work (France Telecom) and the only people that matter are the Excom.
  24. You could try to source it though an approved bodyshop, I'd have thought they would have had to fix one by now.
