  1. I snapped my 3 button key a month or so ago. I purchased a new shell and blade from E-bay. I transferred the elctrics myself, had the blade cut, put in a new batery. In all it cost me £40.
  2. In my Mk IV when the yellow light comes on the computer says 50 miles to go. The computer seems to count down to 30 miles to go and theb just displays low fuel. The other night I did over 35 miles with the yellow light on as the fuel station I intended to use is now being decommissioned and I had to proceed to the next fuel station. Trevor Cooke
  3. Mine is a 1999 MkIV with DHP 180,000 this week. Just had to replace front lhs upper control arm otherwise no expenditure on 50,000 miles.
  4. Hi, If it is of any help my MkIV has the DHP option. The tyre sizes are 245/50R17 and the wheels have 7 spokes. I think that the car sits 10mm lower than standard with stronger springs to comnpensate. The person to ask is Chris Skelton who posts on here occasionally. Cheers Trevor
  5. Hi All, I have just had my brake pads, brake discs and parking brake shoes replaced with new items. The mechanic tells me that he replaced the brake wear sensor on the pads but I still get the message when I start my LS400 up. Do I have to get the message reset? Thanx in advance Trevor
  6. Having spent the last 3 months working in Amsterdam I am returning back to the UK. In the time I have been in Amsterdam I have collected a load of clothes etc. I have decided to take my LS400 to collect these things and have a holiday the week between Christmas and the New Year. The Mk IV LS400 has Xenon lights and I have been advised that I cannot just put stickers on the lights to adapt them for continental driving. So my question is can I adjust the headlights for continental driving or does it need a dealer? Thanks in advance. Trevor cooke
  7. AS an owner of a MkIV LS400 with 17 inch wheels as part of the dynamic handling pach I was concerned at the fitting of 17 inch wheels with low profile tyres. All my research into replacement tyres tells me that there are 2 which fit the LS400 both of which have a 50 profile. Surely a television program should not condone a mix and match approach to a subject such as tyres just because as Mike Brewer said "I want to add a bit of bling".
  8. Muprh, The Lexus web site gives specifications for all models. The appropiate URL is "http://www.lexus.co.uk/approved_preowned/specification_index.asp". Select the desired model from the drop down and the car specification is made available. Trevor Cooke
  9. July 1999 LS400 150,000 miles came up tonight, just about finished running her in
  10. I should know better than to allow my son to use my LS. I allowed him to use it on Saturday and he returned it with "Oh it has got a break wear message coming up on it". Now I have a problem with the OEM pads in that doing 500 miles a week commuting to work means that the front wheels are always black with pad dust. I know EBC do front pads for the LS at £60+. Are they better that the OEM pads? I am also going to change the brake discs themselves as I get a judder and whilst I am at it I will finally replace the parking brake shoes, so quite a brake overhaul coming up in the very near future. How do the pad wear sensors work on the LS? I have had cars where the sensor wire is embedded in the pad itself so replacing the pad automatically replaces the sensor. Is the LS like this or have I to purchase more parts? Trevor
  11. I concur with cardona6569 with regards to MB quality going down. In 2002 I purchased a 6 month old MB S500 Limo for £50,000. It was forever in the MB dealers having nigling problems fixed. One day as I got in the car everthing electric died. Fortumately MB realise that their quality leaves something to be desired as when you purchase a S Class you get 30 year free recovery. The recovery man took an hour on the phone to MB dealership just getting the gearbox out of park. On my LS press a button and job done. The MB mechanic told me the problem was the earth return from the battery to the chassis had come adrift at the chassis end. It ended up with the car needing a new ABS unit and a new ESP unit. After a year I gave up and sold the MB only losing £20,000 on it. My 1999 LS cost me £4750 on e-bay, since I purchased i the car has covered 7000 miles and I am still waiting for a problem. I get fed up checking the oil level each week only to find it has not used any. o having had both cars my vote goes to the LS.
  12. Thank you Arkanoid, as you suggested on the brightness control screen there was a day/night switch. On the Mercedes Benz S Class I used to drive the Sat Nav /Audio screen automatically switched with the lights on or off. One more little problem solved. Trevor
  13. On Sunday I went to see my daughter and son-in-law in my MK IV LS400. Having spent the evening talking my wife and I set out to return the 60 odd miles home. All the way home the Sat Nav Dispaly shone out like a TV set, I certinly found it very irritating. On getting home I perused the Navigation Manual I recieved with car and it says that thge Sat Nav Display should switch to a night time mode if I have the lights switched on and it is dark. Has anyone any idea why the Sat Nav Display will not switch modes? I have the instrument lighting turned down at night but this did ot make the Display change mode.
  14. There was a post inder the LS400 section talking about the DHP where the person responsible for specifiying the DHp gave his opinions. I have the DHP but my spare is a 245/50/17 the link is http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...9205&hl=dynamic
  15. Hi, Having had my LS400 for a couple of weeks I need to adjust the parking brake. I know that the parking brake is a pair of drum brake on the rear wheels but I do not know how to adjust them. On my son's BMW you can adjust the shoes by removing the road wheel, the holes in the brake drum where the bolts go allow adjustment, is there a comaparable method on my LS?
  16. Hi everyone. I have just purchased my first Lexus a 1999 LS400. Have only driven it home so I am still reading the owners information that came with it. Will get to know it better next week when I drive it from Kent to Scotland and back.
