  1. Hi, changing my tyres as they are knackered per my MOT.. 225/45/17/w90 fronts and 245/45/17w90 rears...currently OEM Dunlop Sport Maxx I have just been quoted 480 quid for the full set of Dunlop Sport Maxx all inc from Kwik Fit....is this ok? alternatively they wanted 500 quid for the continental sport contact 2 which they claimed would be an 'upgrade' from the dunlops... as the Dunlops and Contis are supposedley Premium tyres...compared to Toyos or Falkens and the price diff is less than 100 quid for the full set I'd appreciate your comments..on price vs performance vs durability issue I'm only doing low mileage 8k a year roughly and its usually the school run (complete with kerbing) and a bit of motorway weekends for the shopping centres...your thoughts and comments appreciated Also had a bit of a result at the dealers today as they have agreed to change the alloys (cos of the bubbling issue..which I would never have known about BUT for this forum)...will they also do the wheel alignment again at this time? (otherwise it will be a trip to see the people at WIM) I did ask WIM for some quotes (who are top blokes btw) but they could not source the rears for the Dunlops...and I am keen on getting a full set
  2. open the fob to check yourself matey -- but mines are cr1632....the brand i got was energizer...oem in the fob is panasonic i think..
  3. I recently changed the batteries on both my fobs - cost me less than a fiver ...got my batteries from battery force...arrived in quick time and took me about five minutes to do both..hope this helps...
  4. Was driving along in the left lane of the A13 a dual carriageway and about to turn off at the next junction when all of a sudden a mad woman in a blue fiesta decides to change into my lane without noticing that I was there already.....lukcy for me I was returning home from a go-karting stag-do and was pretty sharp that day....I was able to swerve quite quickly and avoid the accident...but there was some kind of warning that started going off inside the car ( IS 250 SE Auto ) with some lights as well, The alarm noises and the lights stopped a few hundred metres down the road and in any case I was too busy honking the woman to take proper notice - even the subaru driver behind me was honking her. Once I had calmed down a bit (after a few days) I was actually quite pleased that the car had handled so well in what was a potentially very dangerous situation (I was doing about 50mph), I am curious to find out what the lights and noises might have been though? Anybody? cheers Vitasoy
  5. Hi Loc'ers, Picking my IS250 SE Auto Argento Ice up today........woohoo...its a preregistered car (Jan 06) and its only done 6 miles so I'm well chuffed... Had a quick query on the Ipod aux - do they provide a connection cable with the car or do I need to go out and get one? And if so, whats a good one to buy and where from? cheers
  6. Thanks for all the responses....I finally went for the Lexus and hope to pick it up mon or tues next week, why did I choose the Lex? ...all things considered when I got in the Lex my thoughts were wow....wow...wow....the Audi is a 'good' car and the deal I got was seriously tempting but at the end of the day....no wow factor....
  7. Thanks for the responses.....specx and OTR prices The Audi spec as follows - 2.0 TDi multitronic, Alcantara/Leather, GSM Phone Preparation, split rear seats, tracker monitor, rear parking sensors and free 'lifeshine' protection IS 250 SE AUTO - (I'm assuming most on this site know the spec) inc rear parking sensors You can't compare the Petrol 2.5 to the Diesel 2.0 true....but these are the cars that I'm interested in....can someone qualify what they meant by the Audi being end of line...because when I asked the dealer they said the A4's had just had that new front grill facelift and a new model was not yet in the pipeline.....I don't believe much of what the dealers normally have to say, but that sounded reasonable.....and the price difference.... Audi salesperson said to me that on looks the Lexus is a nicer car....about the only thing he and I agreed on..... Anyone get any comments on the overall price I managed to get on the Lexus? 23,700 OTR inc rear parking sensors? I'm not sure I got a bargain out of that one - but I have haggled hard....most dealers just stuck to their guns though cos of the supply problem...thanks
  8. Hi LOC'ers, I'm trying to buy a used IS250 SE Auto and after a couple of months of lots of calls, very near misses and to be frank some very take it or leave it salespeople, I've arrived at the following deals.... Audi A4 TDi S-Line - Quartz Grey - 6000 miles, Feb (55) registration (£20,500) IS 250 SE Auto, ARGENTO ICE - delivery miles, Dec (55) registration (£23,700) both have pretty much the same spec.....but obviously the Lexus looks much nice IMHO...but the AUDI is £3k cheaper....what do you reckon? I know that many of the people on here have experienced both cars, so I'd really appreciate some words of advice.....the money is a concern but more in the sense of 'getting a good deal' as opposed to the actual amount (hope that makes sense). I've lurked on this site for ages and read about the good stuff and the bad stuff to do with this car, some of it makes me want to go out and buy one straight away and some of it warns me to stay away (for a year at least). Thanks!
  9. Thanks for the replies and tips received on my original post, I have started to do a few phone calls to 'local dealers' but just to check availability really as the Lexus website does not always have the most up-to-date used car info. I did a quick bit of research this morning and found that I can get a new IS 250 SE Auto inc metallic for just under 25k from one of those online broker sites...I'm wondering if I can stretch the budget a little further...lol - thanks again!
  10. Greetings - I'm a newbie to the site and as yet I'm not fortunate enough to own a Lexus, although I'm hopeful that with a little bit of help I can become the proud owner of a Lexus soon as I note most people on this site are. So here's my situation I live in Essex - I'm looking to buy a 'nearly new' IS 250 SE AUTO and have been tracking the prices on the Lexus website - the going rate it seems is about 24k GBP which is a discount of about 2k+ off list, I'm willing to pay c 22k. 1) Do you reckon its worth me trying for this price level or am I being a bit optimistic about my haggling skills? 2) I'm willing to travel a bit further afield if it means getting a better deal but is there any price difference based on region? Would it be stupid to assume London dealerships - more expensive? 3) Has anyone bought a used IS 250 SE AUTO on the forum? I note that on another thread some poor bloke went and (nearly) sold his IS 200 and ordered a 'demonstrator' model only to have to turn it down because the dealer couldn't manage to give it to him in a decent enough condition. 4) With reference to 3) what sort of condition should I be expecting? As new? Should all the alloys be brand spanking new? Any advice on this would be much appreciated. 5) Not a gold member yet but are there any discounts on there for window tinting? - seen a really mean looking Black IS 250 with rear windows tinted parked at the local pub it really is the business. sigh... Anyway - fairly long post - any help much appreciated - cheers J
