  1. Well problem has been identified and cured. Apparently it was a 'loose throttle wire'. This was however after having it on the machine for about 3-4 times. I was billed for 2 hrs on the machine - thought this was all part of the 'diagnosis'. What was a real concern was, call me oldfashioned if you like but from the moment I mentioned cutting out and battery dying, shouldn't an electrical trace have been done. I'm no mechanic but isn't that rudimentary mechanics that trainees go through? Have your throttlke wiring checked out as that may well be the cause as opposed to coil packs/ECU. Best of luck.
  2. The exact same thing keeps happening to me. Mine too is a Vreg IS200. Also, maybe a separate issue, but the battery seems very weak and is quite drained when I try and restart. Any suggestions?
  3. I have something similar. My car is IS 200SE auto. It happens in reverse for me. Fine when starting from cold. Problem seems to appear after driving for 20-30 mins. The stick moves into reverse, but it's as if it's not engaging - the car doesn't move. Again sometimes it's fine, other times I have to sit and wait a while or move it in and out of D and R. The car has only got 72k onn the clock. Changed the fluid recently which I was told was dirty but has had no effect. Any suggestions?
  4. Hi, I have problems engaging reverse. It's fine from cold, seems to happen after about 30 mins of running. The gearstick moves into reverse but the car doesn't move. I have to take it out and re-engage a couple of times before it finally engages. Or just sit and wait for a few seconds. I've just had the gearbox fluid replaced , which lexus told me was dirty. Came home only about 1.5 miles drive and tried it in reverse. Seemed ok, but as I said happens after 30 mins or so of running. The garage that changed the the auto fluid for me says I'm looking at a new gearbox at around £1,200 to £1,300. I've seen mentioned elsewhere 'burnt-out solenoids' and 'faulty electrical gear switches'. I'm not technically minded so doesn't mean a great deal to me. It's been happening since about June this year. Was on holiday in July/August, then had bodywork beeing done, during which time I had the complete range of IS250's as courtesy cars - Base, SE and SE-L (very nice especially the Mark Levinson system in the SE-L for a reggae freak like me!). So really I've not driven my car much at all since June when I first really noticed the problem. The car is 1999 registration has done 72k and has been serviced regularly at the prescribed intervals. The fluid was changed about 2-3 years ago - bought thefluid from Lexus. I will check the receipt for information on the fluid specification. Anyone experienced the same or similar or has any suggestions or advice? All help gratefully accepted.
  5. Hi, I have a problem that might be related. I have problems engaging reverse. It's fine from cold, seems to happen after about 30 mins of running. I've just had the gearbox fluid replaced , which lexus told me was dirty. Came home only about 1.5 miles drive and tried it in reverse. 6. Thanks for the responses. Car has had a couple of rear impacts, hardly anything major. Take your advice not to worry. I was more concerned with the cosmetics and trying to sell it.
  7. Trevman, I have exactly the same problem. Only noticed it really on acceleration ... sounds like something rolling around, does sound like water or possible as suggested some little plastic thingy. Does drive you bonkers. I think I'll try and lift out the bateery to see if any water is collecting. My car is standard, so can't be any mods.
  8. Too my dismay, I have noticed rust in the engine bay. It appears a long a seam around where the shock absorber mount is on the nearside. My IS200 is a 1999 model. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm going to try and claim from the 10 year bodywork perforation warranty. Can help thinking it is a manufacturing fault and that the seam wasn't finished properly. Any advice greatly appreciated.
  9. I noticed that also. I had a 250 on order about this time last year. Changed my mind when the pricing came out and also after the test drive where I found the drive disappointing. I've not completely gone off the idea. Is it really because of dealer rotation or, are their more like me who have cancelled orders? It's not a direct replacement for the 200 and a lot expected it to be. It's gone into a different price bracket and with that in mind, I suspect at that price buyers would consider a beemer 3 as technically it's a better car. The 250 has shifted into a completely different market and I think it's gonna take probably a year to get a picture of 'who' the 250 buyer is. I don't live far from the Edgware Rd dealership and have only seen one on the road.
  10. Err3, twice. Once replaced under warranty, then about 2 months ago. Cd' still in the unit. You can hear it trying to load the discs when ignition on. Problem is I stopped using the cd 18 months ago as I got a MP3 player and connect through the tape player! Lexus Edgware Rd said it would cost £250 to repair, and if it can't be repaired ...what for it £1,000 to replace it. Who the hell pays £1k for a &&*!$%4^ cd unit!!!!!
  11. I had my Lex about 4 months when in the local supermarket someone decided to run one of the trolleys down the entire length of the offside. When I approached the vehicle there was a woman with her son and a trolley. As furious as I was I had absolutely no proof she or the son had done it. My theory is the lad (just into his teens) lost control of the trolley and couldn't stop it. I desperately wanted to take her to task, but she actually looked pretty gormless so didn't bother. That was some 4 years ago and I haven't bothered to repair it and won't until I sell it. Like others, I try and park well away from any other vehicle, but am also dumbfounded to find when I return that there is always that sodding Micra parked next to me. Why do people do that, Don't they realise you've parked waaaaay over there for a reason!!!!
  12. I've just had my 50k service done by Lex Edgware Rd. They said I needed replacement ball joints, etc. I took it to a local garage called 'Jem' (just around the corner. They specialise in Japanes motors. Anyway I got a substantially reduced quote for the work. The salesman noticed I had just had the service done and mentioned something about the timing belt. He said I should consider changing the timing belt. He went on to say he 'used' to work for Lexus and had seen vehicles same age/mileage come in with timing belt problems. So not only was I advised to change the timing belt but to also do all of the tensioners at around £350! Anyone care to comment or have experience of Jem (just off the Edgware Road, London NW9)?
  13. I just had my 50k service and was told also that my O/S/F lower ball joint had excessive play and both front suspension arm (bushes) worn. I took the view that they would last a few more miles, given the extortianate quote received from Lexus Edgware Road. I did ask if this was typical wear and tear for a 5ok vehicle. I was told yes and more and more vehicles were being presented with such problems.... speed humps to blame?
  14. Yup, me too... Just as you've described, the rattle seems to come from behind or inside the console. At times it sounds like it could be the windscreen vibrating or a piece of trim inside or under the console. Yes, it seems to happen at certain RPM. This could be stationary, with brake applied (it is auto). Or in drive at the moment just before or as you apply some throttle and then when the revs increase it disappears. I haven't really investigated it as such, as it's hard to apply the foot brake and look under the bonnett or on top the console! The car's due it's 40k service soon, actually just passed 39k so will put it in soon and see what they can find.
  15. Shola, I had a replacement CD Unit at Edgware Road, I think back in 2001. I did have a bit of a wait. Apparently the design was so bad everyone was returning them. Generally though I do find the guys there to be very good.
