  1. Yeah, some of their technical comments don't ring true... the regen coasting doesn't cause it to slow down faster that any other automatic car I've driven. I've had a reply to my reply... and this isn't what I was expecting :-( My email to them: however, this isn't quite the response from Lexus I expected, but I can see where they're coming from: Just because similar vehicles do it, doesn't make it right. Just because mine will be fixed, doesn't mean that others will be. I still think this issue can be fixed with a "simple" software fix (if brakepedal ==true then lights=on), but it looks like I've hit a bit of a dead end with lexus as they'll see it as "fixed" once mine has been complete. Am I just being to picky here??
  2. Hi all, I've had a reply from Lexus, and it wasn't quite what I was expecting. I've removed the names of anyone mentioned in the original email. Thoughts?
  3. True - but we all know how many people can get distracted in rush hour traffic by the radio, a phone, a bird, an interesting looking cloud, someone in the back seat, checking someone elses car out in the next lane, thinking about the problems in the office/home etc... Like I said, it's happened more than a few times, and there will be more occasions where it could happen too.
  4. So, an intersting selection there ...! Instant 2017 IS300h 2016 RC300h 2015 IS300h 2014 GS300h 2014 IS300h 2013 IS 2013 IS 2013 Is300h 2013 CT200h Delay 2015 IS300h 2014 GS300h 2010 RX450h So, on the whole, we're looking like the lights should be coming on immediately but there's some exceptions, and it doesn't seem to be model/age related. It's good to see that I'm not the only one though. What I don't get then, is the mechanical switch.. I mean - why bother with it anymore? If its only use is to light up the breaks, then why does the car slow down when they're not lit up? There's some software going on that detects pressure on the pedal and starts the re-gen, then why not use that to turn them on? I'm not a car software engineer by any mean, but it's almost like: if(brakepressed==1 && pressure <10%) then regen_brakes() else if(brakepressed==1 && pressure >=10%) then regen_brakes() enable_brake_system() enable_brake_lights() endif Of course the enable_brake_system() could be on with the <10% too. This has been going on for a while and I'm waiting for a response from Lexus from my reply from the 29th of December, so watch this space.
  5. I live at the top of a hill in north Yorkshire and do the same thing, and my lights don't come on.. they do if I press harder of course.. ;-)
  6. Hi all, it's been a while since I was on this site, I went from my trusty solid IS200 to an Audi A6 4.2 (don't judge me!!) and learned that mistake (£7,000 in the last year!!), so I went and bought myself a 2013 IS300h F-Sport. What a car.... I have to say that it's the nicest car I've driven, but I do have a major concern which I've raised with Lexus, just wondering if anyone else has noticed it. Driving along, and this can be at any speed, if you press the brake pedal to slow the car down, but only do it in the re-gen area to recover as much energy as possible, the rear brake lights do not come on. There is sufficient deceleration of the car to bring it to a complete halt without ever having the lights come on and it's not just a "coasting to slow down" speed, it's enough for you to feel the car slow down (engine braking if you like). If you're stuck in traffic, crawling along in rush hour, you can actually start and stop moving just by using the brake pedal without it ever coming on. You only illuminate the lights if you press the pedal harder. It's just a bit more pressure, but when trying to get the most economy out of it, I/you try and re-gen as much as possible. I only noticed it in the winter and using reflection of the 3rd brake light on the parcel shelf in the window (try it yourself when it's dark). I approached my local Lexus dealership and they confirmed that all of the modern hybrids do this. I contacted lexus directly to voice my concerns and they booked me into the dealership to check if there was a specific fault with my car. As predicted, no fault was found. The engineers suggested that they could move the brake pedal mechanism, but that may mean that the brakes are on constantly... which would be bad. My issue is software related - not mechanical. The car knows that the pedal is pressed and therefor the lights should be coming on.. i.e it is my intention to slow the car down, please tell the cars behind me. Even F1 cars had to start providing a flashing light at the back to say that they were in a regenerative phase and slowing down faster than what would be normal. I've had quite a few near misses, and the look of terror of the person behind me being caught out by a car that's slowing down quicker than they'd expect (as there's no lights on) is now making me learn to slow down in a different manner - trying to gauge their distance and if I have to jump on the brake a bit harder and slow down even quicker. I wonder how many rear collisions have been caused by this. I'll keep you up to date with any further feedback from Lexus, but it would be interesting to hear your thoughts and experiences. Thanks all, Sven.
  7. I wish! I can standard stuff, but I wouldnt have attempted something on this scale myself. Not without a Haynes manual anyway ;-) Yea.. tell me about it :-) Oddest part is the economy! over the last 6 months I've been getting 440 miles out of the tank, as opposed to 390! I need to see what happens this week. I'll let you know!
  8. Hi all, (first post in a while!!) Before I start, I'm not associated with the local garage, that's why I dont mention their name. I will if asked though :winky: I'd just like to say that I've just taken my IS 200 SE for as service at a local guy in Royston (Herts) and I am beyond happy with the job they've done. I'd been putting it off for a while, and started to save my money for "The Big One". Please, don't shout at me... I've got to 140k and my last service was at 96k. So, it was going to be timing belt, all the fluids etc etc etc.. First quote from Lexus Hatfield was £611 for the 100k service as that included the belt, and my local quote was £520. As there was less than £100 in it, I though I may as well take it to Lexus and get the works, get it cleaned and truly spoilt rotten for miles and miles of good running. So, I called them back and the lovely lady there has a quick word with the service department. They then recommend that I do the 120k service as that one has the spark plug change. "Ok, can't be too bad" I thought. "So, that will be £737 for the service and £495 for the timing belt"  "Errmm... sorry!? You've just doubled my quote in one sentence.. err.. how!?" After a bit of "haggling" I managed to get a quote for the 100k service 611, plus the plugs... taking it to 850. Thats right... £40 per spark plug. But thats ok, I was getting my brake fluid changed too in the 100k service. So, I called the local place back up told them that I wanted the service and also needed new plugs and brake fluid. The quote went up to £530. *SOLD*!! So I dropped it off last night (Friday night) to collect it Saturday lunch time (today). All good, timing belt, told me a few of the problems that need to be fixed (tyres wearing odd)(more tyres next week then!) Final price: £507.35.. parts, labour and vat! Niiiiice! I was very close to the belt going apparently.. check out the picture!! Anyway, my main point is (if I have one) is that with an X Reg IS200 SE Auto is it worth spending £1.2K on a service when the same parts and job can be done for less that half price but doesn't have the official stamp on the books? What do you do, and would you have done the same as me (with the limited funds??) Cheers, Sven.
  9. If you want to use the Dunlop SP9000's make sure you get the Lexus specific ones (they have a stiffer sidewall which suit the IS200 and the Lexus ones should be maked as SP9000L). Also the SP9000L's are made in Japan where as the normal SP9000's are made in Germany. The normal SP9000's don't suit the IS200. And I thought Dunlop stopped making the SP9000L's (Lexus specific ones) years ago? They did, they are the Sport Maxx, not found any specific versions for a Lexus though :-(
  10. Hi All, just called formula 1 in Harlow for a quote on some new tyres... they told me that the SP9000 for my IS200 SE were discontinued and I won't be able to get any. My tracking is out, recently had a puncture and money is short so I thought I'd replace 3 tyres and and maybe use my spare (Japanese lexus tyre, the right one ;) ) putting a semi-warn back onto the spare. (Don't judge me, please!!) He mentioned that I'd have to go for the SportMax instead at £105 each, or Eagle F1 at £115. So, would I be right in thinking I'll have to get 4 new tyres now!?? Opinions please (just not on my lack of money, got tax to pay too ) on what tyres to go for. Thanks all, Sven
  11. Brilliant!!! Now, am I reading this correctly?? https://sslrelay.com/buypartsby.co.uk/brake...p?recordID=7474 The break disks here are £13.93+vat Is that right?!!? Lexus want to charge me 275 (managed to get them down from 375) and a local garage want to change me 200... parts and labour.
  12. Morning, looking for a guide on how to change my front disks. I've not found anything like this on here, is it anything like an IS200SE? http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=56738 Thanks all! Sven.
  13. I think I've found it. Its in the knowledge base, rather than a posting in the forum: Explains on how to lower your car, but the basics are there :) (I think!) http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/knowledge...p;id=55&c=5
  14. call me a numpty, but I can't seem to find the post? I've found plenty posted by him, but not that one.
  15. thanks guys! Now.. can somepoint point me to a Haynes manual?! (Actually... I can't find one anywhere!!)
