  1. No your right "moonpig" its not the MOST unreliable but that is the whole reason I went to Lexus because it did so well in surveys etc. My Passat that i owned before i didnt have one issue with and like you I am looking to go a class down now, Avensis (Which toyota keeps telling me is a different diesel engine to that found in the lexus) maybe a Mazda 6 2.2d, but sorry never a BMW! But there is so many things I do like about the Lexus, Its just the reliability has let me down.
  2. Also IHPJ, I was not shouting just left the CAPSLOCK on, Sorry!
  3. I am sorry "IHPJ" that you have no sympathy with me, i wasnt actually looking for any sympathy! Why should i reject a car? Why should i get legal advice? Do Lexus have FRIDAY cars? All i am trying to do is warn those early IS220 owners that there maybe problems ahead if they dont cover high mileage and that they dont take out extended warranty at the 3 years or 60k miles point. I have never been offered extended warranty but at no point have I said that Lexus have not paid for these items to be replaced. They still dont no for sure what is wrong with the turbo (they have said there is a problem with it) but i can assure you that all my neighbours can vouch for the noise it makes. Most of the major problems have happened after 60k, like i said fifth injectors etc were all part of the parcel and i am not going to reject a car because of a mirror shake or rattles or line the legal systems pockets. Lexus Uk have never returned my calls, when i have said that i am not happy when they call to do the survey. The dealer just seems to want to get me into a new IS. I have popped over to Toyota and they are very insistent that all IS 220's before 2008 are awful for engine problems etc and they distant themselves from that engine, Lexus dont really like to admit that! Its just a list of my woes with what i have regarded as a nice comfortable car.
  4. I AM AN EASY GOING LEXUS OWNER, IF I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A CAR I LIVE WITH IT, CAUSE I CANT BE BOTHERED TO MOAN ABOUT IT OR DRIVE THE 50 MILES TO MY NEAREST LEXUS DEALER. BUT MY LEXUS IS220D, PURCHASED IN MAY 2006 (BRAND NEW) HAS HAD MORE ISSUES THAN I CAN BEAR TO THINK ABOUT. MY CAR IS STILL IN WITH LEXUS AT THE MOMENT (WITH NO LOAN CAR FROM THEM) AND THEY HAVE HAD IT FOR ALMOST 3 WEEKS TO FIT A NEW CAT AND INSPECT THE PROBLEMS WITH THE TURBO. AT THE 60K SERVICE I COMPLAINED THAT THE TURBO SOUNDS LIKE A SEWING MACHINE ON DRUGS WHEN COLD, THEY SAID THEY LOOKED AT IT AND NOW AT 83K MILES THEY ARE LOOKING TO REPLACE IT, THATS IF LEXUS WILL ALLOW UNDER WARRANTY!! (WHICH OF COURSE IS 60K OR 3 YEARS) THE CAT HAS BEEN REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AND THIS BELIEVE IT OR NOT WILL PUT YOUR CAR INTO SAFE MODE (CANNOT GO OVER 2000 REVS). I THINK MY CAR HAS HAD FOUR 5TH INJECTORS AND THE MOST WORRYING THING IS IT HAD A NEW HEAD FITTED TO IT AT 60K SERVICE AND WAS OFF THE ROAD FOR 3 WEEKS. IN THE EARLY DAYS IT HAD A NEW COMPUTER FITTED, THE RATTLES AND THE MIRROR SHAKE I LIVED WITH AND TO BE HONEST YOU DONT NOTICE IT AFTER A WHILE AND THE CAR IS QUICK YET DOES LIKE TO DRINK THE DIESEL (I ALWAYS USE SHELL). I DO LIKE THE CAR BUT DUE TO THE ISSUES I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR I WILL NOT BE LOOKING FOR A NEW LEXUS, I JUST HOPE THAT LEXUS OWNERS WHO TAKE TIME TO NOTCH UP THE MILEAGE DONT GET CAUGHT OUT WITH LARGE BILLS FOR NEW CATS, HEADS ETC MAYBE 5 YEARS DOWN THE ROAD.
  5. My 220d has done 22k now and the mirror rattle seemed to stop by 10k except when you turn that amazing stereo up really loud. Still no rattles (unlike my BMW friends). I didnt like those door mirrors at first but when you jump into another car, *** you miss them. *********************************************************** One strange thing though and I realise its not related to this thread but when my car went in for its 20k service, I have being asked to bring it back in to check the oil consumption before I reach 23k as there has being some isolated problems with them. Dealer would not elaborate on this though. I am taking the car in friday 23rd. ***********************************************************
  6. I cant believe you would even consider going German ! Myself and a work mate got our cars at the same time. Me a basic Lexus 220d him a New 3series 320d M series estate. My car has only being back to Lexus twice, the 1st service where I had the 5th injector replaced and the second service at 20k and thats it. I have had no problems with rattles or anything. The vibrating mirror sorted itself out after about 2000 miles and only vibrates when I have that wonderful stereo on really loud. The bmw owners car has being back for two new sets of xenon lights as they fill with water, more rattles than mothercare which they still have not sorted out as I was in the car this week and there is a terrible noise coming from the NS "D" post trim. He was boasting of the things his car had which my basic car matched them all plus more, cd autochanger etc. most of his extras he had to pay for. My lexus dealer treats me like a lord, the bmw dealer (now that he has the owners money) doesnt care anymore. Dont get me started on Merc dealers, my local merc dealer saw me as a late twenties waste of space, the bmw dealer trying to push me into minis and the lexus dealer the only one who made me feel special.
  7. Hi I would try Direct Line as mentioned above as you will still earn no claims as a named driver on another persons policy. Confused.com is owned by the Admiral insurance group so it will be biased to Admiral, elephant, diamond etc. Check the companies small print and you will be surprised how many are underwritten by the larger insurance companies.
  8. I also had my 5th injector replaced as well as the main four. I was told at the time that the 5th injector was a common mod for cars that regularly stall, not that I was having that problem. What month is your 220d? TOOK DELIVERY OF THE CAR ON 31/5/06 I ORDERED IT FEB 06. MY CAR HAD NEVER STALLED BEFORE, ON THAT DAY IT DIDNT STALL BUT SCAREY WHEN YOU GO INTO SAFE MODE IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY JUNCTION THOUGH.
  9. My IS220d bought new on the last day of may has just had the 5th injector changed. 3 weeks ago (car had done 8000miles) I was at a crossroads and needed to cross a dangerous road, got the revs over 2000rpm so that I could make a quick getaway and as I launched across the road the engine safe mode kicked in and I had no revs. Took the car to my closest dealer who kept the car for a week and diagnosed after that time that it required a new 5th injector and that this was becoming quite common fitment across the country but I was led to believe that it was their first one. I was averaging no more than 33mpg but since the new injector I am now returning over 38mpg and I can now put the car in 6th around 70mph compared to over 85mph before. I drive mainly over country roads around cornwall and the car is so much more responsive. Car went in for its 10000mile service on friday 22 september but I have noticed no difference and I have driven 300 miles since friday.

  12. I wish I had gone for the white now. I went for that metallic red which looks stunning in strong sunlight (I saw it under the showroom lights when I bought it) but it looks just like any old red in any other weather conditions. Is the pearl effect very strong, as I have not seen this colour in the flesh.
  13. Sorry about the whole japanese thing, I thought as they love westeners so much and i was lead to believe that it's a good selling point to use western actors etc, so I presumed that the advert was for the japanese market. Has anyone looked at the links to other IS's just to the right with 350's etc, some are a bit tacky but there is others that are not to bad.
  14. Honest opinion.... No.1 ...... OK video, but didn't make me want to rush out and buy one! No.2....... boring posers with nice cars.... was hoping one of them might press the accelerator just once No.3....... might be exciting if he was to do that speed from a standstill...... otherwise yawn No.4.......Ya that is cool, should put that in the telly advert... just my opinion take no offence.... :P No offence taken, there were a lot of other videos on youtube of 350's racing against supras etc but I wasnt sure whether it was good to gloryfy racing etc, but its the first car meet that I have seen on the net its just a shame that its so cheesy with the music and the poor smoke effects.
