  1. hmm left it 5 hours and its still not starting just turning over :( looks like i'll be calling out someone in the morning. Gutted!
  2. Ahh i get ya thats actually a really good shout, since there would have been not combustion in all of the cyliders at some point so now all the spark plugs will be wet with fuel. Any idea how long untill they might dry out? Also what are your thoughts on driving the car on 4 or 5 cylinders? will it do much damage if so what? i mean its already been driven for 5 or so miles with the fault.
  3. Hi All, I could do with some help. Here is the story; I drove home last night and notice that there was shudder coming from the engine, then the engine managment light began to flash. Anyway i only drove it 10 miles tops carefully. Read up on here last night and all signs pointed to a faulty coilpack. So thought i'd try and ID the faulty cylinder (being a sunday theres no one to read my codes) So i started to do this and thought i could just dissconnect the coilpack leads one at a time to see what performance changes there where. I soon realised that this caused the engine to cut out as it thinks there is a coil pack missing. (during this testing the lights changed to TRC slow flash and engine light on constantly). So then i started removing the coilpacks from the engine keeping them connected (stopping and starting the engine between each bit of work). I was finding it hard to detect differences in the shudering/missfire except as i was going through the 6 it seemed to be getting sicker regardless if it was on 6 or 5 cylinders. And now it wont start at all. Anything else i can try. I have started to think that maybe its a VVT issue? - Im off to check out all the fuses while i wait to see what ideas you clever guys have. All help welcome :) Would like not to have to call the garage out on monday morning and loose an arm and a leg :P
  4. Or maybe Mintex eBay Item number: 260233383545 Or maybe just a standard cheap eBay Item number: 220226231541, eBay Item number: 280219470153 Any advice ? Be carefull, my personal findings after fitting mintex breaks front pads and discs and rear pads was that after the first few miles they squeak (not down to break dust) but maybe caused by the anti squeal shims not being fitted properly or at all. Think this is due to slightly thicker pads than standard so there wasnt enough room. That aside my main problem was disc warping, now i dont know if this is just the way i drove once they had been fitted (i can be quite hard on the breaks) or if they are just poor quality. But once i had new lexus discs fitted again i drove in the same way and havent had a squeak of vibration out of them since and have probably done 10,000 miles on them now.
  5. Thanks Kam thought they would be able to sort me, looking on their website they had lots of is200 with what looked like good roofs. But when i called to ask they just said no. Maybe they take major objects of value off then crush the cars? Or maybe the part wouldnt have made them much money? Either way they wernt very helpful. Any breakers that u can suggest around the east midlands?
  6. thanks but is that price for roof bars? I dont actually want roof bars. The bit that fell off that im after is an original bit of trim that goes along the edge of the roof just above the doors. It may have nothing to do with roof bars at all. No dude .... , your post is about roof trim and thats what they cost..... I replaced my passenger one a few months ago thankfully mine was just plain black whereas newer models are colour coded to the cars paint....;) wow ok thanks, Lexus Notts said it would be £52 inc vat for blue ones to match my car which is a fair bit less than the £70 u were told.. Guess im just being tight then lol
  7. thanks but is that price for roof bars? I dont actually want roof bars. The bit that fell off that im after is an original bit of trim that goes along the edge of the roof just above the doors. It may have nothing to do with roof bars at all. The scrap yard is a good shout though since i cant find any on ebay as unless the car was rolled it should be in perfect condition :D
  8. Hi i have a 2000 is200 sport (dark blue). I noticed the drivers side roof trim (the bit u remove to fit roof bars) was loose. Now after a quick trip up the motorway its no longer anywhere to be seen :( I rang lexus and the price was a bit well Lexus. I wondered if any body might have a spare that they wouldnt mind lending me for a few years or if anyone knows where i can get one for a bit more of a reasonable price. Cheers Edd.
  9. Hi guys, Hopefully someone can help me out, i had almost given up on the idea of keeping the lexus amplifier and speaker setup in my car and using it with an after market head unit (probably one of those double din 6.5" screen dvd jobs). Then a nice man at lexus provided me with these images and i think it may be possible as long as i can figure out what to do with the tx+ tx- wires? There are only 12 wires that connect to the head unit and to me they all seem fairly easy to wire. please correct me if i get this wrong as my knoledge is very thin in this area: Acc+B - ignition switched live BU+B - permanent live (memory illumination etc?) Mute - Interupt normal play back (sometimes used for hands free or when saving radio stations) L+,L- - Low level positive and negative speaker signal such as the ones used on RCA out puts? R+,R- ANT+B - antenna wire GND - car ground from bodywork S- GND - common ground for amp and headunit ? TX-, TX+ - data comms between amp and headunit. ***** this is the problem, will i be able to get these signals from a non lexus head unit? do i need these signals? note these diagrams look to be for the top loading CD player from se or sport with the 8 speaker system as the groung pin is labled pin 20 and the earlier bottom loading cd players only have 18 pins but im sure its not that different and the colour coding of the wires will be the same i hope. colour codes for wires 8 speaker system
  10. Ok are the wires all the same that go to the two different sockets (old style and new style) coz if they are can i just cut my old connector of and solder in the new style? If so is it possible to buy the connectors from somewhere and are there any wiring diagrams to help me decide which wire is which on the two types of connector?
  11. Hey guys, I know theres been lots of stuff written about CD changers on here but i cant seem to find out what would be involved in fitting a new style top loading CD changer to an older IS200 SPORT which used to have a bottom loading CD changer that has been killed by Err3. Has anyone done this and can shed any light on it for me. The man in the Lexus garage says i cant just plug it in and have it work even though it will be a perfect fit. Any suggestions welcome.
  12. I'm just 23, bought my 200 sport for myself as a bit of a 23rd birtday present, used to drive a 306 and b4 that a 1984 mini wich was a right laugh. Didnt really like the 306 coz it was a bit boring and diesel :( guess thats why it doesnt have a decent following like the mini and lexus. Loving my IS ... well all except for the CD player (err3) lol but im sure i can breath life back in to it somehow! :D
  13. is there anyone out there who has managed to simply replace the standard se/sport head unit, with an aftermarket stereo and still use the existing lexus amp and speakers which i assume are correctly matched to give the best sound. maybe some one knows if it is possible to make a lead that connects in to the amp wiring and then splits off to a combination of the standard aftermarket connector in the back of the new headunit and also connects in to the rca's too to get the pre amp outputs..
  14. I am not so lucky, I knew about the err3 problem so checked it was working when I was buying my is200 sport (2000) and it was working fine. 2 weeks later it is broken :( (Err3). I have a bottom slot "13902" After speaking to Lexus engineer he has told me that as mine is 6 yrs old it cannot be replaced for free. Also he says although the newer top slot type would fit in the dash it has different connectors on the back. I asked how much for the "13902" part and he said £1200 (that’s not a typo lol). So the options I have are 1 get a replacement 13902 second hand - does anyone have one that’s avoided the err3 for sale? 2 get a newer top load unit and do some wiring as the connectors don’t match (Lexus said they would let me have wiring diagrams) - does any one have one of these newer cd players for sale? 3 get an after market unit which will probably look rubbish unless I go for a DVD one with a flip out screen :P 4 get it repaired, however when I had it out of the dash a small piece of plastic - looks to be part of one of the cd trays fell out so I’m not holding out much hope for the repair. Anyone know roughly how much they would charge? Eddie
  15. The frequency generated by incorrect balance is as described by yourself... i suggest all four wheels are tested with the original weights on to establish how incorrect each wheel is... then have them corrected. I wrote a thread on this topic and the best method for correction some two years ago.... Eddieo if you can find the post it could help :winky: I think the title was 'wheel balance and why it goes wrong'...... think? Took my car in to the garage... it needed it. All four wheels where out of balance and some had no weights at all, tracking was out by 3, +2 instead of -1, and 2 tyres on diagonal corners were under inflated. After having it all sorted out there is now not a vibration to be found at any speed :) Ive only had the car a few days and found it so annoying, its a wonder how the previous owner lived with it and never got it sorted. Just shows how important it is to maintain your wheels properly. im hoping its not been driven like that for too long and there isnt any damage to steering of suspension as a result.
