  1. You can add intellistart to a clifford alarm, I used to have one on a previous car. It is pretty nice to have the car warmed up before you get in but I think Lexus don't recommend letting the engine idle to warm up...
  2. I've gone gold too, worth it for the discount on servicing alone!!!
  3. I'm with admiral for my IS300. 26, 8 years NCB, no points or convictions and I'm married but I live in Northern Ireland so it's £850.
  4. Yeah £350 for each one, I think the bearing is about £70, so there must be quite a lot of work in changing one... Or they are taking the *****!!!
  5. Had my car serviced on Monday and they said the noise was a bearing, seems like both the front ones need replaced, I also need new discs and pads on the front... I think I'll try the discs myself, dealer quoted about 350quid my I've changed discs before so I think I'll save a few quid and have a go... Not sure what to do about the bearings, I had a warranty on my last car and I have transferred it over, it will cover new brearings in 90 days. So I'll try and wait it out, quoted £350 for each one!!
  6. My 2001 Is300 makes a strange noise that sounds similar, I'm not sure what it is either but I'm taking the car to get it serviced tomorrow. I'll let you know if they work out what it is...
  7. You can buy a TV tuner for the mac and use it as a PVR, I have one... but no front row as I'm still on a G4 machine... I'm no expert on Apples financials but I believe their profits and share price started rising when steve jobs retured they were making money before the iPod arrived but they are making more now... If anyone is considering an Apple machine try it out for yourself and you will see what every one is taking about. I thought they were crap until I tried one 18 months ago and I wouldn't even consider a PC now.
  8. I would probably try and run the amp and sub off the standard head unit, I don't think that after market head units look that good in the IS dash... I'm pretty sure I have seen posts on the forum about finding a pre out from the standard unit. But if you don't know what you are doing I would take it to someone who does, there are several good car audio places in Northern Ireland.
  9. Apple Mac all the way :D I used to build my PC's then bought an Apple Powerbook 17" last year and havn't looked back since. I've also bought a mac mini (G4 version so I'm due an upgrade) I love Mac OS is beats win XP on just about everything apart from playing games... The bundled software is also great (iLife apps etc) I see people saying that they are vastly over priced but I don't agree, yes I think they are slightly more expensive than a Dell for example but the build quality and design are far superior.
  10. I got the battery changed to a 6DA and it fits perfectly... Car seems to be starting slightly quicker now, hopefully I don't have any more problems.
  11. The place I got the batter from looked it up the bosch catalogue, they gave me the one listed for the IS300 a Bosch Asia Silver 9BA (dimensions 306 173 225). The one listed for the IS200 is a 6DA (dimensions 232 173 225). There is no way a 306mm battery is going to fit in the tray provided, the existing battery is about 230 mm. So I'm going to try the one listed for the 200. I also check with halfords they list exactly the same battery for the 200 & 300...
  12. I tested the voltages on the battery.. Engine off 12.1 Engine on 13.8 or something like that so the voltages would indicate the alt is ok, right? The water levels seem to be ok in the battery but I think I'll change it early next week can't hurt. It's hard to see the starter I think it sits on the right hand side of the engine near the front of the engine bay. If it's sticking you just hit it a whack don't you? Until to finally decide to replace it! How does the starter earth? There is an earth from the battery to the car body and engine block and the starter is on a bracket or something on the engine block and that's how it earths? I think thats whats going on but it's hard to see with out stripping down a bit. Cheers, Richard.
  13. Yeah I did a few searches and it seems the clicking nnoise can come from a flat battery. The car is 5 years old and it looks like it's still on the original battery, so it's probably due a change. I tried to get a new battery this morning but the one they gave me was the wrong size :duh: I'll change it on monday and see how I get on. Cheers.
  14. Hi, Has anyone else had trouble with their starter on an IS? This evening I had driven around doing a few things, stopped for petrol and then parked the car to make a phone call. About 15 minutes later tried to start the car... It made a clicking noise, I guess like a relay flicking but the car didn't make any attempt to turn over... It this just a sticky starter? I was on my way to a friends for dinner so I left the car in the car park for about 2 hours came back and it started first time... Just a bit worried now that I can't trust the car to start if I'm out and about anywhere. Any got any advice? Cheers.
