  1. If the head gasket goes you either get oil in the water, water in the oil , pressure in the coolant system when the car is running but still cold. My Mk2 overheats if you thrash it, which is down to a blocked radiator, if you fill the coolant system with tap water ( I had a leaky expansion tank) the system gets lots of gunk and corrosion in it. I discovered this when changing the thermostat. I'm going to try chemical cleaning and backwashing, maybe I'll get away with out changing the radiator :^O
  2. sounds like one of ur belts is gone, either serpentine or cambelt..? hmmm, power loss, could be sparkies? what's the mileage? could be dirty air filter? start with the basics of a tune up and take it from there. It's a bit strange that it was ok for a day - but while I was waiting for the local toyota dealer to get the filters, I hoovered the air filter ( quite a lot of flies and dust) and ran some injector cleaner in the fuel, this has stopped the whistle and gone a long way to putting things right, still a bit hesitant at 5000 to 6000. I can only think that putting my foot down sucked the crap out of the air box into the filter , come to think of it a 4ltr V8 will be trying to pull around 60 ltrs of air a second at 4000rpm so I suppose it doesn't take much of a restriction to make a difference, I wonder if K+N do a hi- flow filter for the LS400? Searching the Forum it looks like they do - i'll have to get one - It must be really bad if you drive a car that does not have an owners club web site, you would be completely at the mercy of the dealers :o I'm driving the Lexus while my Supra TT is of the road having BPU+ mods done, I had forgotten how nice driving the old girl is! :D Thanks for the replies :) Steve
  3. Hadn't used the car much for 18 months put it back on the road this week , first day I used it, it ran well, next day, pulling away from lights, noticed loss of power when accelerationg hard at 3000+ revs . Power loss acompanied by a whistling/squealing noise not loud but noticeable and only there when power loss is provoked by putting my foot down. Car is drivable but lacks the usual >>go>> Suspect fuel problem - perhaps contaminated fuel filter or failing pump? Anyone had this or anything similar happen and knows what the problem is most likely to be, before I start taking it to bits. Thanks in anticipation Steve
