  1. When I bought mine, there was quite a bit of judder from the front discs. These were replaced, but 4000 miles on, it seems to be coming back, although I'm not convinced that this isn't suspension bushes or something. Mine has done about 90,000. My GS has done a tad over 100,000 miles and has a similar noise to the one you described. When it went in for the last service they checked it out and found it to be front suspension bushes which IS covered under the Lexus extended warrenty program (which I dont have) As for the after sales service you are getting, thats totally unacceptable, name and shame them on here for a starters, write a letter to Lexus UK and complain. I get better treatment than that from Lexus Sheffield, I didnt buy the car from them I bought it second hand from a non-Lexus dealer. They even gave me better treatment than I have had from ANY dealer before when I ad my Mk 1 GS. Good luck
  2. I still have all his details exept phone number and have passed them on to the police, watch this space for an outcome. (By the way, if you see the plate on a Black Mk2 GS DONT key that one, its mine :duh: ) Andy
  3. Is the 20k service an 'A' one or a 'B' one?, if it was the 'A', then you were ripped off. Incidently, I had my rear discs & pads changed just before Xmas for £200.00. Andy
  4. When I had my Mk 1, I took it to Halfords (now part of the AA) & they charged me about £70 to fix the leak & re-gas it, talk about blizzard conditions, you could have made ice-cubes in there once they had finished.... well worth the dosh. Andy
  5. Dont know if any of you were in there bidding against me for the following reg: L3XDS at the end of November last year, but I had the highest bid at the end of the auction, (£735.00) but it hadn't reached the 'reserve'. Not to be out done, I emailed the seller to see how far off the reserve I was and to see if we could 'come to an arangement'. The outcome was he agreed to sell to me for £820.00 so, after recieving copies of his log book & MOT, I sent of a cheque which he duly cashed. He was then supposed to transfer the plate from his LS400 onto a retention certificate & send that to me. He phoned the week before Christmas to say if I sent hime my Tax Disc, MOT & Log book, (& £80.00 transfer fee), he would sort it all ou in one transaction thus I would get the plate in time for Xmas. This didnt happen, but I thought with the Xmas hols etc. I would leave it untill after the New Year. well I have been emailing the guy and sent letters but he seems to have disapeared off the face of the earth, so this morning I reported it to the police who are treating it as quite a serious crime, as it involves my vehicle documents. They did say however that the guy may have just gone away for a week or so and didnt think on leting me know, but the plate IS still registered on his car. So moral of the story..... LISTEN TO WHAT EBAY SAYS, and if you see an LS400 with the L3XDS (looks like L3XUS), please key it for me. :iraqi-info-minister: :tsktsk:
  6. To be perfectly honest, I use the cheapest (but not remolds) I can get. Currently some unpronouncable Jap ones from ATS @ £70.oo each fitted :D I do a lot (about 35-40,000 miles) a year and the more expensive ones dont seem to last that much longer.
  7. OK, I'm the office skin flint, but I object to shelling out £150ish for an up to date Sat Nav CD. I am not bothered about getting the latest version, just one that is a little more current than the original in my 1998 GS. So someone out there must have updated theirs and still have the old CD knocking around and would be willing to donate it to 'the cause', subject to an exchange of beer tokens of course. Andy
  8. I do quite a lot of motorway mile munching and especially through winter the headlamp washers are a reall benefit, so the position of the switch is quite important, to me anyway. Andy
  9. I do mean the actuall 'lever' and not, of course, the gear box. I like to rest my left hand on the lever when plodding along and the newer one is a bit small. Oooh and I thought of a couple more niggly things: 1. The headlamp washer switch has been moved from the stalk to a button on the dash - crap :yack: 2. The indicator/wiper stalks have been swapped around and are nowhere near the same quality as my old GS, they feel cheap and plasticy The engine, however, is absolutely stonkin :D Andy
  10. Just changed my series 1, which had 177,000 miles on, for a series 2. Mine let water in around the same place, nothing a bit of silicon sealer wont solve, oh, and welcome to the site.
  11. Thanks Colin, mine has the CD so I guess no 'nuggets'. :duh: I had thought that the noise was linked to the brakes but just wanted to check. :D On the whole I am pleased with my latest GS (I had an older series 1 (with 177,000 miles on) up ntill last week when I px'ed it for the 98 SE I now have. :D Two little points I am not so keen on: 1. The arm rest on the drivers door is not as compfortable 2.I prefer the old automatic shift over the newer version ;) Andy
  12. I have read somewhere on here about the ASL and 'nuggets' being displayed depending on how fast you are going and how much the ASL boosts the stereo volume. I have a couple of comments/questions. When the ASL is switched on I dont think there is any noticable difference (stereo sounds great at all speeds) Where are the so called 'nuggets' ie. the display telling you how much the ASL is working, I've checked on all the different screens but cant see anything obvious, or am i just stupid. When I am driving along there is an intermitant 'wirring' sound (similar to the steering column going up & down - but not as loud), any suggestions, it seems to be coming from the drivers side of the dash! Last of all, i went to have a hands free kit fitted, only to be told there isnt one for my phone (Nokia 7650) so i would need to replace my phone, slightly inconvienient as I have just got it - DOH :tsktsk: Oh, I have a GS300 Andy
  13. Check out www.autotrader.co.uk there are loads at various prices. I just px'ed my series 1 (for a series2) for £3k - but it did have 177000 miles on it :o
  14. That sounds cheap to me, I am sure I was quoted around £400 to have my old GS done Andy
  15. I recently replaced my radiator in my mk1 GS. I got a pattern one from Leicester Radiators, (got the telephone number from directory enquiries, but drop me an email if you cant find them and Ill dig out the bill). Cost........ a mear £140 as opposed to £400+ from the dealer. Andy
  16. If it was done by a Lexus dealer, they should have put a little 'replaced cam belt' sticker on your car somewhere, (mines on top of the radiator), which should have the milage at which it was done filled in. Andy
  17. I know, your either a 19 year old spotty boy racer or born with a dibiletating hearing condition. :D You will probably need to convert the entire rear of your car into a closed coupled, high dencity optobalistic bass boom box to achieve the required effect.......alternatively, replace the rear parcel shelf speaker with a decent one, (JBL, Bose etc.). You could opt for a 'boom box' afair in the boot, but if you are thinking about one of those, you should have bought an IS200 Andy
  18. When my GS, without Sat Nav, went in for service, I was given an 02 GS with Sat nav, quite the trick I thought, untill I realised that it didnt show my street, (which was built a mear 5 years ago. So, question........ what the hell are Lexus doing releasing models which dont contain up to date info. In my humble opinion, the extra £2k or so to have the Lexus Navi System installed should at least warrent maps that actually bear a passing relation to the roads we drive on. And further more, after shelling out my £2k, I would like to think that, as with other software I purchase for large amounts of cash, ALL future updates are FOC. And so endeth my sermon. Andy :arrrggg-matey:
  19. when I bought my 97 GS300, I had it serviced by the dealer and got the battery changed at the same time, (£10.00 ish), as I was experiencing similar 'distance' problems - result is, its exactly the same, it has to be quite close to the drivers door to work. I also find it a little annoying that you cant unlock and open the boot with the remote, or at least I cant. Andy
  20. Put me down for 2 sets initially. I will definatly have one and I am sure my brother will have a set for his GS. (I'll give him a call when I get off the internet). I presume we will be able to get them in the usual manner - add to cart, pay by plastic etc. Andy
  21. Check out autotrader.co.uk, there are loads of 300's for sale including sports. Andy
  22. The alloys on my 95 GS300 are looking a bit, well 'tired'. The previous owner has tried to remidy this with some alloy paint, which has now lost its colour somewhat. Question,- Can I safely use something like Nitromours to remove all the paint etc. from the wheels before giving them a polish with Autosol etc. and laquering them myself. I know I can get them proffessionally done, but I am a tight git and like to save money whereever I can. I have done a similar job on my Honda Blackbird, but didnt want the wheels on th GS to dislove if they are made out of some strange and wonderfull alloy! Andy :hohoho:
  23. As long as the cars got a full service history, I wouldnt worry about the milage. My GS300, (on an 'M'), has got 162,000miles on the clock and is still going strong, (touch wood). Andy :D
