  1. i had the same but wd40 cured it just for one week :( so I am squeaking now
  2. additional heating is eberspacher coolant heating. coolant heating means, that the heat doesn't go directly to the interior, but the coolant liquid is heated and then the heater as usual heats the interior. this means that it takes some time to heat. after 55 seconds the eberspacher even doesn't go on full power. I cannot tell you now how long does take to heat, because I don't remember. And there are no conditions - if you start it in summer, it will work anyway. it is quite noisy, so you will know it is working. PS: not every car is equipped with it....
  3. the point is that narrower tire has better traction on snow and ice also.
  4. it is good way to start, but still, 245 is very very wide for snow. I still think, if you want to keep the car for 3 more years, it will be cheaper to buy new set of rims with narrow tires as I described before. How much dost cost to switch 4 tires to and from rims?
  5. MOBIL 1 ESP FORMULA 5W-30 this oil is I believe used by toyota dealers, but it is badged as toyota oil.
  6. it is perfect feature I use it everyday in hot summer to cool down before I enter the car...
  7. sorry to say this, but I would feel completely dumb to use some tiny car instead of lexus to ride 2 months per year on snow to save couple of quidos. I don't see the reason of having lexus then. Just buy passat 4x4... for the winter tires - complete set of OZ michelangelo rims and pirelli sottozero 205/55/16 cost me 1.300 euros. This winter will be the 5th I will be using them.... I change them myself (1 hour of work per 6 months) I store them myself. If you rather spend 1.300 euros on ****ty car, it's your choice, but I am personally knocking on my head.
  8. standard is 205/55/16 all 4. then 225/45/17 fronts, and 245/45/17 rears - while discs are the same, therefore fronts are visibly a bit stretched. then there are also 18" but I don't remember - I just know that rears are 255
  9. I confirm that 80kgs of sand in the boot makes things even better. However in the city this affect also the consumption... if your city is flat, there is no need for it but if you have some hills, take it.
  10. there are so many sellers with ****ty hid conversions and they still sell...there are so mnay sellers with fake rolexes and fake viagras and they still sell...
  11. wait for the winter. Unfortunately the cold sound of diesel is much worse than cold sound of petrol...
  12. excatly. I recommend also to go for narrower tire. For snowy conditions is width 205 much better than 245.
  13. To compensate money with time, get under the car and unscrew the oil tank (not entirely) until it drips. I am doing oil changes by myself, on motorbikes too, and my experience is that it drips VERY slowly until the last thread. And when you remove the screw it is difficult to put it back while oil flows out at full speed. Therefore I recommend syringe.
  14. The question is, what is slight and what is significant. Manufacturer claims in the owners manual to not overfill...
  15. garages have professional tool for that. what you can do at home, you can buy larger syringe and small rubber hose and suck it with it. (either through filling hole or dipstick hole)
  16. are you standing on a flat surface? Or you weren't standing on flat surface when topping? In general, too much of oil will stress the oil pump and engine sealings. One 1cm over the dipstick is about 1/2 litre which is quite a lot but with my knowledge I am not able to say whether it is risky to leave it as it is or not. The easiest to do is to suck the oil. Some garages do not drain the oil, but suck it.
  17. do you have clutch problems, or noises? If not, I wouldn't care. Clutch and dmf life may be 30.000miles as well as 200.000 miles. the original part you should be able to get it for about 1.000 eur as aftermarket replacement part. Contact aftermarket parts specialist. I don't think, but I even wouldn't try, as it will create lots of problems, vibrations and stalling. If you want to save, you can get "original" non-dmf replacement, however even this is not recommended because higher vibrations may have impact on other engine parts (at least on silentblocks). You know, DMF plays important role in keeping the engine smooth. You bought lexus for silence and luxury so don't kill it...
  18. if it works, then it works. If it will work after 1000 miles, lets buy champagne and celebrate.
  19. si lexus is better in noise, interior, suspension and sound system. Then what in is better bmw and audi? :-) In consumption and gearbox? for many people, including myself are noise, interior, suspension and sound system more important than consumption and gearbox... But this I knew when I was choosing the car. I don't understand how can somebody buy a car without trying it. Do you buy shoes for 50€ without trying?
  20. so has anyone tried them? designwise they look great. I do not care about dust, but I do care for the disc quality and pads mileage... thanks
  21. I don't know, bigger turbo = bigger lag. Already now it is bad with the lag.
  22. well, sometimes it is difficult even if you spray whole part to match the color with the rest of the car. But good mechanic is good mechanic. If he is confident, make agreement with him, that if he fails, you won't pay.
