  1. there must be some kind of problem...thats just too much. In city conditions I would accept 30mpg, but 17...
  2. what type of carpets do you have?
  3. previous week I was skiing in the alps. On the way there I went between 110kph and 130kph (70-80mph). Consumption was 6.0/100km (47mpg) on the way back I tried to have the best consumption, so on 100kph limit I went 110, and the rest I went 120kph (70-75mph) - I think these speeds are very common in the UK, aren't they? The consumption was 5.6/100km - 50.44mpg. Standard shell diesel with additive, 16" winter tires, 90% on cruise controll, aircon off (it was at the start -9 till -2 at home, so it did not switch on). 2 people on board with ski equipment. The road has lot of hills (Tropolach -> Bratislava) if somebody has higher consumption than 20% (in same conditions), than it is the EGR valve, or the right foot matter.
  4. no. Since last rest is only the AVG speed, but avg consumption is the consumption since last manual reset (as you correctly described) Tank AVG reset itself when refilling the tank. so 1st think I'd do is to reset the AVG and then monitor the consumption.
  5. you are thinking right. I use the 17" for sommer and the 16" for winter...
  6. tani> try some diesel additives. Can you buy VIF in Bulgaria?
  7. it does have the automatic electronic adjustment, but the basic setting (when standing) you set via those screws.
  8. how much of oil is needed and where is the drain plug, pls?
  9. I reckon DNPR is dirty and the car tries to clean it in regular way... therefore the higher consumption. Let us know how did it go in the garage...
  10. http://www.infoarena.com/lexus/headlights/ I recommend to do also the headlights washers mod...to keep the car nice and clean.
  11. if it is well known, send me the bulletin, pls. I want to have something in my hands if this problem occurs to me or my friends. That's all. matuskoje(at)podvodnik.cz PS: I don't live in UK
  12. how did you manage to not have the particle filter?
  13. head cracking / headgaskett problems result in general from wrong use of the driver, as I wrote above. You, as a mechanic should know this and not say that it is bull****, rather normally explain what is not publicly known - that toyota/lexus is probably keeping secret important information about their manufacturing fault. If manufacturer made damaged parts (design problems / material problem / manufacturing problem) nobody can blame the driver, of course, and I did not want intend to. Why is this information secret? I don't understand. Why it is not in VOSA? Is it legal? How many owners have already paid for the repair, because they don't know about manufacturers fault and do not service their cars in toyota/lexus network anymore? BTW I am quite horrified about quality of toyota. So 2.2 DCAT has problem with the block and head, engine 1ZZ-FE (1.8vvti) had until 2005 serious problems with oil consumption due to design, My dads company owns Corolla Verso and Yaris - both had to get fixed bearings in the transmission with about 50.000kms on the clock. Then accelerator pedal problems, power steering, rear calipers, 5th injector, egr, dcat.... something's going wrong, don't you think?
  14. could you pls post, or send me technical bulletin about this? (extended warranty etc) thanks
  15. maybe my english is not clear but obviously you don't understand, or don't want to. forget about revs, it is not the main problem for the gasket (more for the sealing rings) what I say is, if you demand high power out of cold engine (=full throttle even at low revs), you may blow the headgasket out if its place. This doesn't mean you will find it on your bumper, mate...it is enough to move couple of mm and this is enough to have it "gone" some cars have it, but most don't...
  16. I had the same as you - limp mode, I tried 10kms at 3500rpm, I sprayed with contact cleaner the egr valve plug and since then it is OK (knocking on the wood). My car is not in warranty anymore so I don't solve it now, but your still is. You should still have the error in the memory and as P2002 means: P2002 - Particulate Trap Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) • DPNR catalytic converter (Manifold converter sub-assembly) • Differential pressure sensor • Differential pressure sensor vacuum hose is clogged • Blockage in vacuum transmitting pipe sub-assembly • Exhaust gas temperature sensor • Exhaust gas leaks in TOYOTA D-CAT • Mass air flow meter • Engine ECU try to get the dealer to check the DNPR physically. There may be some fault but they must open it, because as you see, this error means many parts. also possible. 3rd possibility is that a sensor gave wrong information to the ECU
  17. agree. You have to treat them with gloves, and you still have no guarantee that they will be reliable. In future it will be near the same with gasoline engine. They will also have particulate filter as direct injected engines also emit particles... Let's hope the won't use DMFs, but turbos and highpressure pumps are already in place... Good times are gone.
  18. of course it seals all the time. If it wouldn't seal, you would not start. All engine parts are torqued to degree, where they have minimal wear at the operation temperature. Revving is not the main problem when cold engine. The real problem is high pressure in cylinders = high turbo boost. You can get full boost of turbo also at 2000rpm when you fully press the accelerator. And when is the engine cold, the headgasket may by literally blown out of its place.
  19. Sorry, but if a garage told me that my diesel head-gasket had failed because I had thrashed the car from cold, I would suggest they need help or were trying smoke & mirrors on me. If it were true, the country would be permanently littered with broken-down Transit vans. the question is, which transit van makes 177hp out of 2.2litre diesel engine.... Anyway, the car is in the warranty, so Lisa, let them change the gasket and that't it. However it doesn't change the fact, that headgasket problems are mainly caused by wrong usage of the car.
