  1. So for another £550 you get a Series IV and a car 3 years newer with 12 months tax and MOT..............There is no contest in my opinion.
  2. It's a huge amount of car for the money.............Why not go and take a look at it and go from there. Nice to see the boot is nice and dry anyway - It's always a good sign not to see fish swimming around!!
  3. Bedore you do anything, are you able to check with a multimeter to see if there is any current at the terminal? And the answer to your question is yes - You can upgrade to LED bulbs. The interior light takes a Festoon bulb. All other bulbs are 501 push ins. I bought mine from www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk My only comment is that LED bulbs are not designed to dim and fade out, they are binary - either on and off. This means they flicker rather than dimming when closing the door - Just something to bear in mind!
  4. If you're going for an LS400, my advice would be to go for a Series IV (i.e. the first two listed in your post) - it's often regarded as the best combination of value, power, economy and waftability...............As stated previously, just make sure it is a UK spec car and not an import. Details for RAC are here.......> RAC
  5. All of those tryes should physically fit - You should try to keep within 2.5% if you can though. If nothing else, keep having to mentally recalculate your speed all the time would be painful. My LS400 DHP originally had 245/50/17s (at a stupid price) so I swapped them for 235/55/17s which were less than half the price. They are nicer to ride on too as the profile is a little bigger but ultimately there is nothing in it and only a 1.99% difference. In the meantime, you may find this link useful .....> http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/lof...php/t37499.html
  6. I was in a fairly similar position having driven company cars for the past 20 years...............9 of which when I worked for a vehicle manufacturer where the cars were changed every 6 - 9 months. So when I took a new job and decided to opt for the cash instead of being hammered for company car tax I bought the Lexus which has celebrated it's 10th birthday. The LS400 is looking a bit dated now, but it's pretty well put together and has plenty of life left in it. If it was me...........yes, I think I would do it. Just remember that instead of the Skoda jokes you will hear all the wise cracks about quotes for an airport drop off at Heathrow or Gatwick - I have heard them all!
  7. Did you buy it on a credit card by any chance? Why don't you call the garage and say that you appreciate that it's not a new car but equally you don't consider these faults fit for purpose. See what the garage says first and then you can consider what you do next.
  8. I need some too. I am tempted to use www.wiperblades.co.uk I have previously purchased Bosch (assuming they would be the best) and they are awful - they squeal and leave a lot of the screen unswept. I purchased Bosch for a Range Rover as well and they were the same so I'll be trying something else this time!
  9. Hi and welcome, I have a 1999 LS400 with DHP 1) I had exactly the same. Take everything out of the boot on a nice day (if we get one!) and let it dry out. It's worth taking the rear light clusters out (see the instruction manual on how to change the brake light bulbs) and when putting them back ensure they are a very tight fit. Water can often get in here. 2) How bad is it? Maybe a bad accident repair? Maybe just surface corrosion? Maybe worth you getting a second opinion 3) Not common I don't think - Not heard of it before. Someone else may have a view here? 4) Mine does too. I spent a fortune replacing upper & lower control arms and the rubber bushes (all common faults as it's a big, heavy bus) - In all honesty it doesn't feel that much different and I get the odd "crash" over bumps and potholes. I suspect the front springs and / or shock are a bit tired. It has lot of weight to carry about. 5) Lexus MK are pretty good but pricey. I have a good independent that services all makes but a couple of the staff were from the local Toyota garage and have good experience (a lot of it gained through doing work on mine!!) - Would you travel to Bedford?
  10. You see, all of this fangled technology is a pile of s :tsktsk: e really......................... Back in the day, my Vauxhall Viva HA came with a starting handle should there be difficulty before starting a journey and failing that, it was light enough for you to push it on your own and then leap in and jump start it. Job done!
  11. I will go if this is still on? If it is, please say where and I'll be there! (that rhymes!)

  13. Rather than buying a private plate you could always change your name by deed pole (I have changed mine to S664BFG). It's worth doing the sums as it often works out cheaper this way.
  14. Hi All, Happy New Year. I would like to have handsfree bluetooth functionality with my mobile. I would also like to be able to play my ipod though the car stereo. I have not had much success with the FM transmitters so have been using the dummy cassette tape which is good quality but looks a mess. I can imagine the the LS400 stereo is a bit of a nightmare to get out. I am interested in what others have done. Any advice or guidance is welcome. Cheers, Steve
  15. I have a 99 LS400 with the DHP pack / 17" wheels. I refused to pay the eye watering prices for the Pirelli P Zero 245/50/17W out of principle.......I therefore went for Pirelli P Zero Nero 235/55 R17 W (98) (1cm narrower but almost an identical rolling radius). They are perfect, very quiet, ride well and I cannot notice any difference apart from the price - These were £48.18 + VAT each from blackcircles.com!!!
  16. Yep - He's and out and out showman and I don't think any of it is worth taking too seriously (I'm sure any GM/Vauxhall/dealer employees who relied on Vectra sales would disagree!). I personally think he's very good value and I love his sheer front and brutal honesty, it would be very dull if he was waxing lyrical over everything. In any case, he doesn't knock everything, he loves the new Fiesta of all things! Fiesta
  17. I got the DVD for Christmas. Anyone else seen the mention of the LS400 on it. How rude!! Brian.
  18. A blonde teenager, wanting to earn some extra money for the summer, decided to hire herself out as a "handy-woman" and started canvassing a nearby well-to-do neighbourhood. She went to the front door of the first house, and asked the owner if he had any odd jobs for her to do. "Well, I guess I could use somebody to paint my porch," he said, "How much will you charge me?" Delighted, the girl quickly responded, "How about £50?" The man agreed and told her that the paint brushes and everything she would need was in the garage. The man's wife, hearing the conversation said to her husband, "Does she realize that our porch goes ALL the way around the house?" He responded, "That's a bit cynical, isn't it?" The wife replied, "You're right. I guess I'm starting to believe all those dumb blonde jokes we've been getting by e-mail lately." Later that day, the blonde came to the door to collect her money. "You're finished already?" the startled husband asked. "Yes, the blonde replied, and I even had paint left over, so I gave it two coats." Impressed, the man reached into his pocket for the £50 and handed it to her along with a ten pound tip. "And by the way," the blonde added, "it's not a Porch, it's a Lexus!"
  19. I have Bosch wipers on mine and they squeal badly when the screen is almost dry as well - It's an awful sound as well isn't it? I bought Bosch assuming these would be the best - A friend of mine has exactly the same problem with them on his Range Rover. I won't be buying them again.
  20. Hi, Thanks for this, I've looked at this website before and it's useful but unfortunately it doesn't cover the LS400 and the CD based system. It only covers LS430s and upwards which are all DVD based. Thanks anyway though. Steve
  21. Hi Guys, I have an old Lexus sat nav CD that I'm going to put on e-bay. On the CD it has LS/GS/IS, 1996-1998, version 3.2, release 99-11. 08664-50822 86271-15V252 I can't find ANY reference to the part on Google at all. Am I correct in saying that this will work in any CD based Lexus sat nav? All views appreciated as I want to make my ad accurate. Cheers, Steve
  22. As mentioned previously, batteries typically only have a 3 year lifespan and so with winter approaching it's not a bad idea to replace it as a preventive maintenance procedure anyway. As winter approaches you will see lots of garages beginning to offer free winter checks so why not take it to one, say nothing about the battery and just see what they come back with. Garages do this as they want you to give them the repair work. They will generally find something wrong so that they get the payback but you are under no obligation to go ahead.
  23. It's worth getting a quote from this Lexus dealer in Dallas. They are very used to dealing with people in the UK. http://www.sewellpartsonline.com/
  24. My Veyron feels far more stable at 150MPH than the LS. The KA is starting to run out of steam at this speed and there doesn't feel like it's got much left.
