  1. It may already be up hear somewhere but if your wheel centre caps are missing you can get them from www.centercaps.net. I've just bought one for my LS400 including delivery to the UK for £28.00. Do measure yours properly though as they have a large selection of different sizes and symbols I hated it missing, made the old girl look tatty.
  2. Can someone give me some advice please? I've disconnected the battery and now my radio just indicates "SEC" as soon as I turn the ignition key on, Only button 6 works which turns off the display as long as I keep it depressed. I have tried to follow the sequence to enter the security code, as described in my manual, but none of the buttons respond. Any ideas please. It's an LS400 1994 by the way.
  3. Thanks Steve and Terry, Found a great Lexus specialist just outside Chester, parts and fitting £170 and he's a really nice, genuine guy. Knows the LS400 as well. Thanks again lads, John.
  4. Hello all, My lovely LS400 1994 has just failed the MOT, they say that "The nearside and offside front suspension joint has excessive play in a lower suspension ball joint" OK I understand what this means but does anybody know how expensive it is to get done? Also on the advisory sheet they say, "Nearside and offside rear bonded suspension deteriorated but can function as intended". I have not got a clue what that means or if it's expensive, has anybody any ideas please? Cheers everybody, hope you can help. BigJon.
  5. Many thanks to all! My lad drained a litre or so out when the engine was cold and now the level is perfect. I read a few oil sites and they agree with you guys, stating that there is little difference between 5W & 10W, so I'm happy now. And it's all thanks to you great, helpful souls. Cheers lads!!!! BigJon.
  6. How much did it all cost, if you don't mind my asking? My service is due in September Cheers, BigJon
  7. Hello all, I've gone and changed my engine oil with GTX Magnatec 5w 30 which my local motor shop ordered in specially. Now I've double checked the manual which says for these temperatures it should have been 10w 30. Also I think my son has put too much oil in, it's definitely over the full line on the dipstick and he's only got 1ltr left out of 8ltrs. I'm taking the car to the Isle of Skye on Friday 21th July a journey of 500 miles. My questions are, will it be ok to leave that 5w 30 oil in and will an excess of 1.5 litres do any damage? I do hope someone can advise me. Cheers, BigJon.
  8. Only LS400 drivers, but they think I'm nuts because I'm usually in a Volkswagen.
  9. 225mph in a Marcos look alike, not for me. Will it stay on the ground, do you think? BigJon
  10. What a happy and great time in your lives, congratulations!!! BigJon
  11. Yes the owners manual advises you always drive with overdrive engaged to improve fuel cosumption and reduce engine wear, due to a lower rpm. BigJon
  12. They're lovely cars aren't they, I like that great big bonnet out in front, something you seldom get these days. Glad your a happy chappy! BigJon
  13. I notice that on page one they sell the complete unit on a return the old unit basis £179, surely this has to be easier to fit? BigJon
  14. I thought I was really quick! Right where's my V8 mouse? BigJon
  15. Hi and welcome Darren. BigJon
  16. Yes I'm glad to hear others get good consumption, the next couple of weeks or so will be just pottering around to the supermarket, chip shop, the common to walk the dogs and so forth so I'll fill up again after that and compare the difference. Cheers all, BigJon.
  17. As some of you will know I've had my LS400 two weeks now and I'm still testing it, as it were, anyway my wife and I have just got back from a weekend in Bangor (didn't we have a lovely time) and I filled up to the very top in Telford as we left on Saturday and refilled, to the very top, on our return on Sunday (this afternoon) 279 miles later. I used 48.13ltrs thats 26.78mpg, amazing for a 4ltr V8. My son has a Peugeot 205 1.9GTI and he only gets 25 mpg. Ok I love the smoothness of this car and I'm quite happy to poodle along in it, this test was mostly at 70mph on cruise control, driving to Llandudno in the evening for an indian meal, a bit of town driving looking for parking places (they need to be quite large) and one or two short bursts of speed when required, in other words economical driving. I'm well impressed with that mpg because next year we've hired a cottage on the Isle of Skye and thats a long way. So far to sum up = It's comfortable for me (I'm a big fat bloke), fast when I need it (I enjoy that part), smooth and quiet to travel in and has reasonably economical fuel consumption. I'm sure I'm going to find some bad points about this car but at this time I'm thoroughly enjoying myself. BigJon
  18. Thanks to all. I've just put up a post about the amazing fuel consumption. BigJon
  19. Hi, everone, On Friday Oct 27th I bought and drove home, about 98 miles, my Lexus LS400, 1994, light gold, cream interior. After driving a diesel caddy van for 800 miles every week you can imagine how big the smile on my face was, what a smooth, quite, powerful and comfortable car this is. It runs and drives like a new car (131000 on the clock) and having done my homework for months before buying one, I realize it has the usual problems which I shall enjoy sorting out a bit at a time with the help of this club. Cheers to you all, BigJon
