  1. Hi. Sorry but cant recommend any one in your neck of the woods. I do have the following comments to make. When faced with a similar dillema in the past, I have chosen based firstly on convenience of location. Reasonable charging is limited to independants who as a rule dont have courtesy cars so you need to find one near home or work or the bus. Next, I look around the area/s as there will often be more than one workshop. I always approach them and ask about charges. This also gives me the opportunity to see what other work they have, how they treat customer's cars and to determine if I can trust them with the baby. Remember that charges are only one aspect. Steve
  2. Hi Yes you should disconnect the battery. When my battery was disconnected for work, on reconnection the remote doesnt work but it can be reprogrammed by following the instructions given in various posts on here. I have not had to enter a code for the radio to work and this includes after the battery was off for 5 days whilst I had a completely new a/c system. Steve
  3. Hi again. Spoke too soon. Crimping-up the plug did work for a short while but alas its beyond the Heath Robinson approach. Since my previous post on this subject, Ive moved house and installed a new kitchen and bathroom (in the house) and had serious issues with my daughter's Vauxhall Ashtray which has a wonderful Isuzu 1.7Td engine which eats alternators. Still I digress. I obviously need a new plug with some wire for my baby's temp sender unit. I have emailed the breakers on Fleabay without success. I have ALSO asked 2 Lexus dealers to supply the part. I have given them VIN and Engine numbers without success: they can only find a unit that has both positive and earth wires. Mine has a positive; it being earthed to the head. (Rant coming) I am not a great fan of dealers notwithstanding prices. By way of example ( and if I thought about it, no doubt I could go on) 1) New Escort, 1st service. Walk in at 5.30pm man says "ah, should have rung you". Car has no engine, went home on bus. 2) New Terrano 5k service- new clutch. Gearbox fell off on beach 3 days later in south of France due to lack of 1 (ONE) bolt!!!! (Proven by nice man in France). 3) LS400. Ring dealer for paint touch-up colour - gave em code, "sorry sir, you will have to bring it in" Rant over, I hope. I need a plug for the temperature gauge sender unit for my LS400 1st registered 26/01/95 on Park Lane, together with say 4 to 6 inches of cable OR a reliable and p..s easy modification. If anyone can help, please. By-the-way, I have a Mitchell manual on disc which leaves a lot to be desired especially the wiring diagrams. StevewithoutatemperaturegaugeLS400
  4. Hi again Ive now tried everything including every electrical device except heated rear window and heated seats. Everything works fine. I have no dash lights lit or out (except the D light which has never worked and I will change if and when the dash comes out). I have also tried to overfill the coolant to rule out an air lock. No change. I have now ordered an original replacement temp gauge sensor as being the only thing left I can think of :shutit: Steve Hi again Now, 4 temparature gauge sender units later including a very expensive one! (Least said soonest mended) I now have a complete car. Despite my protestations, it was infact the plug fitting and not the sender. By crimping the plug contact, I now have a a normal reading O Joy

  6. Made no difference to the reading Steve Water did come out of the hole and it was the new one that was fitted; I have the old one in view.
  7. Hi Guys The plot thickens. After I shorted the wiring the other day, the gauge has been reading half way between off and a "quarter" when warm. Anyway, changed the sender unit today and............, the gauge still reads half way between off and a quarter! Shorted it again, same result - gauge shoots to max. Much head scratching and no inspiration. Any ideas as to whats happening fellas? cant believe that the new sender has exactly the same problem as the original. Steve
  8. Hi If the 430 is anything like the 400 on this issue then you could do no better than to search this forum. If you havent disconnected the battery/had a flat battery then the battery within the remote could be the problem. If youve not changed it for a year (2 at the most) that would be a good and easy starting point. Steve
  9. Hi Dont bother with Lexus dealers; 3 of them would only tell me if I took the car to them! I did manage to talk the receptionist at the local Toyato dealer in to giving me the info. Steve
  10. Hi and thanks once again. Sourced from local factors at £10.84 inc VAT. Should be in tomorrow. Given the location on the inlet manifold, I'm hoping to do the job with minimal coolant loss. Steve
  11. Steve, Steve Unit located so thanks. Shorted the wiring and gauge shot up indicating defunct unit. So going to have to source a new one. Steve
  12. Thanks for that Steve, and a local reply to boot (me being in Sleaford). I will have a look in the morning to compare, although I'm not that confident having searched high and low today. Will report back
  13. Hi I was driving along merrily in my Jan 1995 MK3 LS400 when suddenly no temperature gauge reading. Stopped to investigate, nothing obvious ie wires, boiling-over etc so continued a further 30 miles or so with no adverse issues. Infact she was running as well as ever. There are no warning lights illuminated. After searching this forum, Googling and running my Mitchell repair disc, I am non the wiser as to why the gauge has died or where the sender is located. Any assistance will be gratefully received. Steve
  14. Hi Steve Don't suppose you could paste a link for the procedure please. Steve
  15. Pete Thank you for taking the trouble to reply. I was hoping for better news although it comes as no surprise Regards Steve
  16. Hi Guys For some time now I have had a problem with starting my Jan 1995 LS400 which is heading towards 174000 miles. First of all see this thread http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...&hl=starter From that thread you will see that it appears to be about a general starting problem. The problem that I have is that the clicking occurs ONLY from stone cold. It hasnt happened at any time when hot or even tepid. I have had the battery checked - its apparently ok. I have also had the +ve connector to the battery changed being mindful of threads on this subject and finding that mine was defective. This has made no difference whatsoever. I will be delighted to receive constructive comment and suggestions to solve this please Steve
  17. Hi The problem is that there's no slack to add. When I tested it, I had to pull my tummy in to take the pressure off the clasp sufficient to release it. Comments appreciated fella's Steve Hi Steve If all else fails you can purchase a small plastic gadget which can be put on the belt where it enters to retract and the gadget has a locking mechasism after adjusting the belt to a comfortable fit to stop it retracting further I used them when taking elderly patients to the hospital who found the tightness of the belts restrictive. I had them for years so I dont know where they were purchased but I know they were less than a £1 each Yours MJM444 Hi Steve This is what I had in mind on the web site below although the ones I have seem less sophisticated Mike http://www.seatbelttensionadjuster.com/about.html Hi Guys many thanks MJM444 and Mike I'd totally forgot about the clips; I used them years ago when seat belts first came in. I will let you know how I get on. Steve

  19. Any lateral thinkers? I really do need to sort this before the annual pilgrimage to Le Mans 24 Heur in June Steve
  20. Hi guys The rear seat belts in my Jan 95 cause passengers great discomfort. Shortly aftyer setting-off they "lock" the wearer in position to the extent that movement is impossible. having had complaints, I sat in the rear. The locking effect was such that it was very difficult to remove the belt at the end of the journey. Any thoughts and suggestions greatly welcomed. Steve
