  1. Had the work done today and the car is now working fine. New water pump £311 fitted. My is has done 86,000 on a 55 plate. Might keep the old girl until after xmas now then start a fresh looking for a newer one.
  2. Cheers Jack and no the car has not overheated. I just topped up the coolant a few days ago. The noise really only started a couple of days ago just as I was thinking about part x ing for an F sport I have had my eye on. The Lexus garage offered me a grand less than I was hoping for due to the engine problem.
  3. It sounds just like that. It is also very sluggish when pulling away, then it seems the engine jumps into action.
  4. Cheers Jack but no luck. The noise has developed to a chirping / rattle sound coming from the top part of the belt system (water pump?).
  5. My is250 has just developed a serious squeaking noise when I use the accelerator. It seems to be coming from the front of the car so I am thinking it is some belt issue. Any advice appreciated.
  6. I have also had the VSC Check / Traction Control and Engine Management and a red warning triangle come on. Took my 55 plate IS250 with 52k on the clock into Lexus today and have been quoted £1100 repairs. The report they handed me says the following centre pipe just behind A/F b2 corroded and leaking causing eml lamp The have said the centre pipe needs replacing. Anybody think this should be covered by the extended warrenty that has been mentioned in this thread. If not is this a fair price. Cheers in adavance
  7. I might give it a go but dont be surprised if I am back on the site asking how to reassemble an engine.
  8. I have just had my is200 x reg 100k serviced and they have pointed out that my aux belt is cracked (probabley explains the recent squeeking noise). Just wonerding how much should this cost to get replaced? Cheers
  9. Cheers Rikos but it is struggling to turn over in the first instance. You may have something with the battery because last week for some reason all my preset radio stations disappeared. Off to Waterstones now to get that book.
  10. Just wondering if any one could give me a bit of advice on what may be wrong with my car. Over the last few days my IS 200 X plate has been stuttering when trying to start it. On some occasions it has taken a couple of attemps before it starts. It is like chug chug chug and then nothing ( a bit like what my wife feels like during s*x) Any thoughts appreciated ps my mechanical knowledge is just as bad as my s*x knowledge
  11. Cheers for that, just need to decide what to do next. Ebay for a new unit splash the cash with lexus (doubtful just to get the same thing again in a few months) FM transmitter for my I River Radio or an aftermarket head unit now that I know what one is sell car and get a new one
  12. Hi just wondering if anyone could help. Got the dreaded err3 message on my unit yesterday. This is my second unit from lexus after having the first replaced under warrenty 17 months ago. I have an IS200 X 2001 plate so I am now out of the warrenty period. I have been reading a few posts on this site about this problem and tried a few things such as kicking the b*****d and the radio 1 fuse trick but nothing has worked, all six cd's stuck with no signs of any life whatso ever. So back to my original questions, what the hell is an after market unit?
