  1. I've always thought my IS200 had poor fuel economy as I get about 21mpg driving to and from work, but a good proportion of that is stop, start stuff. Just did a 500 mile motorway run and was pleased to get 402 miles to 62 litres (30mpg). If I'd been travelling at around 65mph, I reckon I could have got another 50-60 miles out of a tank, but as the roads were so clear, I was going a bit faster than that :winky:
  2. I bought my IS200SE with 46K on it and it has no service history, so I have no idea if the 40K service has been done. I'm coming up on 50K now, so can anyone tell me what the 40K and 50K services are? If I ring up Lexus would they be able to tell me its service history, providing it has been serviced at Lexus? I have no idea where the last owner would have had it service, but it has a Lexus Edgeware road key fob.
  3. I can't supply a photo, but mine has the following: Tyre wrench, jack wrench, one pair of pliers, a screwdriver with a double ended shaft, on end flat head, one end phillips, plus two spanners. One of the spanners is 10mm, can't remember if the spanners are double ended, and if they are, whether they are different sizes at each end. However, almost every bolt I've had to undo has been 10mm so far.
  4. The old ones are IFR6A11, the new ones are IFR6T11 which according to this site is the recommended plug. Not sure what the difference is between the old and new. As far as I can tell, the old ones are the original plugs, but as the car's just come up on six years, and my fuel economy is poor, I thought I'd change them. I'll have to see if that, plus a new K&N panel filter make any difference.
  5. NGK Iridium £37 from eBay like these
  6. Cheers mate, just done it. Even with my extension bar, it was tricky to get them out. The one nearest the windscreen was interesting! The car's coming up on 49,000 miles and the centre electrode of the old plugs was very small and pointy compared to the new plugs. When do they normally get changed?
  7. I've seen a post on another forum detailing how you change the sparkplugs on the IS200 and it looks pretty complicated, involving removing the throttle body. There seem to be an awful lot of hoses, wires and other gubbins to unclip, and then remember to put back on! I'm used to just being able to access the plugs, without removing anything else first! For someone who's not a regular car mechanic, how complex is this process (can't find anything on the LOC knowledge base). If it's only going to cost a small amount for my usual garage to do it for me, then I'd rather pay for it than get all the hose connections messed up. Secondly, where's the fuel filter located and how easy is that to change? Thanks Simon
  8. I had a knock coming from the nearside front. Had it checked out and the garage reckoned the shocker was leaking, as it had crud on it. Got a new set of KYB gas shocks for £110 inc delivery and got them fitted for £90. The knock has gone and the car's handling has improved massively. The nearside shock had indeed failed. You need to replace shocks in pairs, or you could adversely affect the handling.
  9. I was at Muggello last year for the launch of the 248, but not been to the main circuit. The countryside is certainly stunning round there!
  10. So I've followed the instructions to rest the ECU, but what does this mean for my car in real terms? I've heard people saying the car will adapt to your driving style, but what does that actually mean? Does it change the timing to give you better acceleration if you're a heavy right-footer, or give you better mpg if you're an ultra conservative driver? Surely the engine map is set at the factory?
  11. I get clouds of white smoke, especially when it's cold. I was sat in traffic for about 30 mins this morning and it didn't go away, until I hit a stretch of dual carriageway and could put my foot down. That always seems to cure it! I'm used to a diesel, so the first month or so seeing lots of white smoke had me worried!
  12. Is the O2 Sensor the thing mounted next to the air filter and near the throttle body? Looks easy enough to change if it is - where can you get one from? Mine's coming up on 50k miles, so I might replace the plugs, too. To do this, I presume you need to remove the airbox? How are the coilpacks attached to the plugs?
  13. Sorry, only just seen this. Anyway, the kit seems very good, although as I've not done an HID conversion before, I have nothing to compare it to. However, it has transformed my lighting and visibility. The only thing that does worry me is the ballasts buzz quite loudly (can only hear them with bonnet up though) although this may be normal - someone else can confirm this I hope. It was easy to fit, took about 20 mins to do. the only thing was that connecting the headlamp to the ballast was the opposite way round to what I expected - first time round the headlamps didn't work, but once I reversed the connection it was fine.
  14. I get 300ish to a full tank, which is pretty poor. I've just replaced the air filter, which appeared to be clogged solid, with a K&N panel filter, so I'm hoping that will help. I've not done any long motorway journeys since I bought mine, so don't know what it does out of town, but certainly in stop-start urban, with a couple of foot-down dual carriageway moments, it's guzzling fuel
  15. You need to add them as Points of Interest (POI) then go into the menu, find the POI manager, and turn each type of camera on. Untick the option to only alert if on route, or you might not get an alert if the positioning is slightly off.
  16. Yep, standard box. Think I'll give the throttle body a clean while I'm at it! Cheers Simon
  17. I've just received a K&N replacement panel filter and need to fit it. By the looks of the airbox, there's a clip at the front and a 10mm(?) bolt on the left. Anything else to do before the lid comes off?
  18. So, on an otherwise unmodded is200, what effect will your induction kit have? And, how easy is it to fit? I'm reasonably competent mechanically, but I'm more used to working on diesel turbos, than modern petrol engines!
  19. I think my economy is down to the filter being old! I was just interested to see if the induction kit offers better acceleration than something like a K&N standard filter, really.
  20. The fuel economy on my IS200 sucks so I thought it was about time to replace the air filter. However, I thought that if I did, I'd go for something like a K&N performance one, or an induction kit. How much difference to the acceleration will an induction kit make, compared to a performance air filter, or is it more about how much noise it makes? If I was to go for an induction kit, any recommendations on type, and how easy are they to fit? Sadly I don't have £1800 lying about, or I'd go for the supercharger! Simon
  21. I'd like to know too - I''m after a set of rear pads
  22. Are the pads the same at the front as they are at the rear on the IS200?
  23. Well seeing as they replaced all the traffic cops with speed cameras, I doubt there will any increase in the number of people pulled over for using their phone while driving. It's all very well making it illegal, but if there's no one to enforce it, it's pretty pointless. I always use speakerphone or a hands free if I have to take a call, but generally don't answer until I'm stationary.I've nearly been crashed into on too many occasions by idiots jabbering into their phones and not being in control of their vehicle.
  24. As the radiator fan is not working, I'm assuming the sensor is faulty and it's not a fuse issue (the fan works if the A/C is turned on). So, is this a particularly difficult repair, and how much is it likely to cost? If it's easy to do, I'll probably do it myself if I can source the part. Any ideas on the cost of the part? Simon
