  1. hiya ive just had 5 new ones fitted and i`am very pleased indeed with them overall and strangely they seem to run very very much quieter than the pirelli`s that where fitted before , but the best bit was that by chooseing the kumho`s they were less than half the price of the pirelli`s . rick. p.s ive also used kuhmo`s on a couple of rangwerovers as well in the past and allways found them to be a first class tyre.
  2. hello all can anyone be kind enough to give me some info on how to sort out the backlight on my radio its murder at night i cant see the display or any of the damned buttons , is it a diy job or a little more involved any info would be really helpfull thanks . rick.
  3. hi my first lexus ls 400 was a mk 1 model originally on 15" wheels but the previous owner had fitted some 5 spoke 16" alloys and they looked brilliant compared to the original wheels . rick.
  4. you will find the ls400 a fantastic car should you decide to buy one mate . as for lpg tanks my rangerover p38a runs on lpg and has a doughnut tank in the spare wheel well and it holds about 65ltrs. i dont run my lexus on lpg but, iam considering it , its a really good way to reduce running costs especially if your doing big miles. for example my rangerover costs less than half to run on lpg than it did on petrol which can only be a good thing i would say :) :)
  5. i would go for it as previously said they are looking after you and , its tails you win and heads you win 30 day money back deal you cant lose really . rick.
  6. shop around mate i wont pay lexus to do nothing for me , why did you not just take the car along to the local auto electrician ?????? that kind of thing is bread and butter work for them . rick.
  7. hello fella`s although i dont run my lexus on lpg i do run my rangerover 4.6hse on it with no problems at all , a couple of things that may be useful to lexus owners however , when i first bought my rangerover it was running on a single point system this type of system is a bit dated technology wise , especially for the hi tech management systems on modern cars today . my previous rangerover was a 1994 lse model and that ran fantastic on a single point system , my latest one is a 1998 p38a model and, whilst it ran on lpg it was nowhere near as nice to drive as it was on petrol so, i upgraded the system to a sequential ( multipoint system ) and the difference is incredible both from an economy point of veiw as well as performance. although have been a hgv mechanic for almost 40yrs fitting the lpg kit is , in my opinion quite a simple diy operation , as long as it is done in a tidy and competent manner , i dont and never have used flash lube and never had any trouble as far as reliability is concerned bearing in mind the rover/ buick v8 is not a patch on the refined lexus v8. the down side of a single point system is that the mixer acts as a restricter in the induction manifold thus slightly reducing performance , the multipoint system does not use a mixer the gas is ecu controlled thus no or very little noticable power loss , the rangerovers i have owned run even better on lpg than they do on petrol , from an economy point of veiw they cant be beaten they have saved me a fortune !. as for reliability with the exception of the ill matched singlepoint system that used to be fitted to my latest rangerover i have found them totally reliable and no trouble whatsoever , i bought my kit from a company called tinley tech down in cambridge who , i cant praise highly enough , they were great and offered loads of advice . i knpw that the rangerover and the ls 400/430 are 2 completly different animals but, they are similar in the fact that they are both powerfull v8 vehicles so the basics of both are similar as regards running them on lpg i hope this may help someone out there who is trying to decide whether or not to run thier car on lpg , finally i have to say that for the bit extra it costs i would definately choose the multipoint system for a lexus , if you have experianced both you would agree i am sure. rick
  8. i got mine off ebay as well a couple of months ago it came quickly and even had fitting instructions included , litrally a 10 min job to replace the mast . rick
  9. i think i may have found some alloys with tyres for my ls400 , they are originally off a is200 and are 17 inch and it says in the ad they have an aspect ratio of 45 ???? could anyone please explain what this means and if they will fit my ls 400 or not any help on this will be very very welcome thanks. rick.
  10. the rangrover is on lpg so its like running a eurobox style family car and well both the luxus , i can only drive one at a time and dont need to tell you guys how good on fuel they are for a 4 ltr v8 . i called in halfrauds today and surprised myself they do a replacment mirror glass , although i had to order them o/s and n/s the pair came to just over £11.00 which is a lot better than the silly prices lexus are talking about .
  11. It's caused by the auto-dimming feature, I don't know the technicalities, but it's to do with whatever creates the dimming effect. Hope this helps! KEITH thanks mate i think i saw that somewhere else on here as well , tomorrow i will make a template and go to halfrauds to see if i can get a match , not to bothered about anti dimming ( i`ll just squint )
  12. yes mate i certainly hope so , i cant stand to see such a lovely car abused , mind you it will be company for my m reg ls 400 and my rangerover p38a , the missus will kill me one of these days :D :D . one the bright side ive just seen a breakers quite close to me that may turn up the goods fingers crossed .
  13. hello all and as the title says i`ve just bought another ls400 its a 1997 mk3 with a genuine 104000 on the clock , and only 2 owners , but lord the last one has not been kind to it . the inside is like a tip , its filthy or was filthy i spent the whole day cleaning it and now it lovely , its the turn of the outside tomorrow . one the whole the car has a lot of potential and i can now see the light at the end of the tunnel , there are however a couple of things i need a bit of help from you guys with if possible , at some point the aerial has been changed for an after market item and i would like to go back to original if possible does anyone have an idea of the price or where i could source a second hand item ?. also the car only came with one key but i think i`ve got that sorted after reading a post about a company in kent who can supply and cut a new one . and finally for some strange reason both door mirrors although not broken have no reflection its just like a piece of glass ??????? does anyone know if its possible to get a replacement glass i.e the stick on type ideally without having to go to the lexus dealers many thanks. rick.
  14. thanks for the replies fella`s it appreciated , i`ll just keep looking i suppose thanks again anyway. rick.
  15. hello all iam currently making my ls400 look its best again by repairing one or two supermarket trolley bumps and various stone chips at the front , at the same time i would like to change the rather boring mundane standard alloys with something a little smarter and possibly also go from 16 to 17 inch , its my intention to buy second hand to keep the cost down and wondered if any of you guys can tell me if the wheels from a gs 300 or an is 200 will fit my ls 400 mk 3 or even better still does anyone have some that are for sale :D many thanks. rick.
  16. thanks all its sorted now the code i was useing was the right one it was just me who was not pressing the right button after entering it cheers anyway rick.
  17. thanks for your prompt reply guys and yes i have read those replies , and i shall try the vin number code when i get to work in the morning . i think that the code has been changed as i said in my post the guy i got the car from gave me an email with the code on it as 132 , do i need to do this reset procedure before trying to enter this code ? thanks. rick.
  18. hi all i wondered if someone could help me here i accidently left the side lights on over the weekend on my 1996 ls400 and the battery went completely flat , i trickle charged the battery over an 18hr period and everthing is ok with the exception of the radio , all i have is the word sec on the display when i bought the car 6 mths ago the previous owner gave me a radio code so i followed the owners manual instruction for entering this , press the top of the seek switch/ button and at the same time press 1 and up came 3 --- so i followed the instructions to enter the code and, nothing after around 30 seconds it returns to --- as if its the wrong code , am i missing something here or is this actually the wrong code , i did repeat the operation several time but still nothing just returns to --- any help will be gratefully recieved thanks. rick.
  19. hello all i wondered if someone could advise me here with an irritating fault on my mk3 ls400 sometimes though not always the idle takes a while to drop even after coming to a standstill it a stays around the 1000 rpm mark , this can also happen sometimes when the car is stationary a the engine is revved or the throttle blipped then after a few seconds the revs gradually drop to the correct speed and alls well is it time to clean the throttle body ? :D
  20. hi all for anyone who needs a radio code you may find this site helpfull , i did, and for a fiver for your code you cant really go wrong www.radio-code.co.uk once you pay you get the code back instantly hope this helps rick.
  21. each to their own , not exactly my cup of tea ...................................maybe am just getting old ;)
  22. hi i am a rangerover man through and through but i bought a mk1 ls400 6 weeks ago and was very impressed by it and it only cost a grand , an ebay special :) so when i saw another a 1995 mk2 158000 mls on the clock service history dec mot and july tax with a buy it now price of £1500 i had to have a go , i travel 210 mls for it and got it for £1250.00 and its mint , other than a very small dent in nsr door the size of a 5p and a 8inch scratch on the osr door / c post other than that the car drive like a dream and really is absolutely faultless ( i still have my lpg rangerover which is a completely differant machine , and a pleasure to drive ) but i am truly impressed by the lexus build quality and sheer driveability , the point i am trying to make though is if you take the time to look and choose carefully there are many examples out there to be had for peanuts pricewise , and are in another league from the usual £1000-£2000 run abouts that are on offer good luck with your search mate.
  23. thanks mate i guess your more than likely right in what you say , does anyone know though without pulling them down if they are 25m/m or 28m/m thick discs on my model 1990 mk1 ls400 . cheers rick.
  24. hello guys , i feel sure ive seen this problem on here but i just cannot find it now , so here goes i have a 1990 ls400 in very nice order apart from an annoying brake judder similar to a warp disc, it seems ok when i first set off then once warm it then starts whenever i brake , be it gently or hard , the judder can range from very minor to quite violent , maybe best described as the abs kicking in although nothing is felt under the pedal , its just through the steering wheel , and even more wierd it does`nt happen all the time if anyone has experianced this i would be very happy to hear your veiws on it before i start to check disc run out ect , ect thanks. :winky:
