Welcome welcome welcome back, It will be me next year but I think I am going to end up in a caravan or American motor home for a while (not on dale farm). -
I reckon on payback time being within 10.000 miles & I would say on lpg overall including repair costs (or lack of them) my LS & the last one have been cheaper to run than a Nissan Micra. On LPG I agree its different horses for different courses if you do the miles for me its a no brainer, Sometimes the odd conversion goes wrong but is usually put right. As in my last experience , But having any work done on your car cambelt ect involves an element of risk. If I was only doing under 3.000 miles a year I wouldn't bother with an lpg conversion.

I think you are more likely to get 90 litres in & 450 miles unless you drive like miss daisy. I had a flash lube on my last one when it ran out I never refilled it 60k later no probs & I didn't go for a flashlube on this one as the ls 400 lump doesn't need it. Looking forward to the pics & good luck with your new toy. That counts as 22mpg Is this on a run or around town Mark On the way home last night is was showing somewhere between 20-25 around town and 35-42 on the motorway with cruise control on at 75mph That's mixed driving but you will find you drive a bit more spirited on lpg. LPG is a bit more than half the price of petrol & you loose a bit of economy. Best I get on a run is 28 mpg unless I drive at 62mph a true 56mph. I sort of work on 35 mpg equivalent around town & 48 mpg on the run. But as I said I don't really drive for economy. -

I think by the time you strip the head off replace the gaskets & cambelt & so on an engine swap would be the cheaper option. -
If you take into account the extra value an lpg conversion puts on a car payback time is not long at all. My last 98 ls 400 I sold for £2000 with 192,000 miles on it & the phone didn't stop ringing. Witout the lpg conversion I would have been lucky to get £1200. So payback time may be quicker than you think.

A good buy & you seem well up on your lpg (will it be a self fit) I had hana 30kw injectors on mine, as on the previous one (5 years & 60k no problems), Will that be a solid tank or a polo mint. -
Fazer 600? Bandit S600 Or Vfr800?
ManicMark replied to lordturns's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
I would urge you into trying a vfr800 vtec before you make your purchase, I think it would be the best bike for your requirements. PS I used to be a motorcycle dealer when I lived in Germany so have ridden a very wide variety of bikes. If it was my money the vfr800 would be my choice a perfect all rounder, with a superb build quality & a lovely engine. -

They are Iridium plugs as standard hence the 60k change interval. Both mine had & have iridium plugs & run perfect. I know its a big thing getting an lpg conversion done & on occasion things do go wrong. Battersea autogas & profess do know what they are doing though.

One thing you have to seriously consider is, If you buy an LS400 you will de in a dilemma if you ever want to buy another car Because try as you might you won't find anything that will stack up well against it. I am on my third. £2000 will get you a really really nice mark 4 be patient. Don't rule out highish miles ones as if they have a good history & been looked after they will still be fine.

Lpg Fitted

Nice neat job & good to see the standard of workmanship hasn't gone downhill without Leon cracking the whip. I will be there next weekend for my 10,000 mile service as I am passing on the way to see my Mum. Mine hasn't missed a beat in 10,000 miles since converted properly in March. -
Hi Phil, Welcome to the LOC. The car looks OK and the description sounds good, my only worry would be the LPG system, the picture that shows what there is of it you can see in the engine bay looks a right lash up. I would definitely want that checked out thoroughly by an expert. One thing you can do for yourself, if there is any smell of gas just walk. The cars definitely worth looking at and if you can get the car for around £2250/£2500 you got a bargain but the LPG system needs to be checked. Good luck Mike Hi Mike the LPG system looks OK to me not as neat as my profess job but neater than the battesea autogas job on my last LS.

Funny the phaeton would be one car I would consider against an LS, Not as reliable ( but nothing is) it was the swansong car from the head of VW before he retired.A v6 petrol one would be a good option if he was going to lpg it. I'm sure it it is a very nice car & good value for money BUT repair bills are going to be costly & it will go wrong. So if bombproof reliability is what your friend wants go for an LS if he is willing to chance some hefty repair bills try a Phaeton. The best thing to do is drive them both & see. ps I will be sticking with my LS 400 mark4 & will no doubt get another one if something untoward happens to this one.

I had a similar problem to this on my old ls400 it turned out to be a dry joint on one of the drive shafts repacked with high temp grease & the problem went. It could also be the rear trailing arm bushes that go into the rear hubs, they can cause a vibration at higher speed .
