  1. Just trivia but when I Googled to try to find out which Lexus model was used on Scott and Bailley, I discovered that Facebook lists a Lexus Scott and a Lexus Bailey - a bit like Austin Healey, I suppose.
  2. Quite a few police detectives have driven IS250's over the past 2 or three years - I assume that it was part of some clever Lexus product placement. Actually, I thought hat the police inspector in Scott and Bailley was driving a 2nd generation IS250 rather than the 3rd generation IS300h, but when I was driving up the M6 today I saw a lovely white Jaguar that turned out to be a lovely white Maserati Quattro Porto so my car recognition has, as the police say, got previous.
  3. I refinanced with Lexus my first IS250 after, I think, less than 3 years from new and the warranty was automatically extended to coincide with the end of the new financing period. I am not sure if this applies to all refinacing arrangements but it is something to bear in mind as the normal warranty period is approaching its end.
  4. The manual says : "The seat heater timer control can be turned on and off by pressing the seat heater switches for the driver side and front passenger side at the same time until a buzzer sounds. The buzzer will beep once when the seat heater timer control is turned on and twice when it is turned off." The heating and cooling on my 3rd generation IS250 does not seem to me to be any better and, in fact, probably not as good as on my two previous IS250s.
  5. Ref my earlier post, I forgot the attach the link so here it is: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/75371-folding-mirrors/page-5
  6. Take a look at this thread on the IS250 forum - it concerns a kit to implement an auto-fold option for the mirrors. I don't know if this kit works with 3rd generation IS models but the suppliers might be ablt to answer a query.
  7. My 3rd generatiom IS250 seems to be more economical than the 2nd or 1st generation models I had, but this appearance is purely from the the figures quoted by the cars rather than anything scientific.
  8. It would probably have been enough for me 40 years ago but now, I just wish the seat would gently raise me up so that I could simply step out of the car!
  9. Haha, I did wonder about that too! Thankfully you can easily disable it via the multimedia display ;) That's true, but it's difficult to do this in time when a passenger is screaming because their feet have been crushed to pulp, or a Labrador is being modified to Dachshund!
  10. I have an IS250 Premier, replacing an IS250 SE-L. The Premier does not have illuminated scuff plates, motorised blind, adaptive headlights, ability to set speed and rev warnings on the speedo and rev counter, or memory on the passenger seat. Big improvements over the SE-L are larger boot and greater rear passenger leg space, split fold-down rear seats, daytime running lights, better nav system integration with bluetooth (particularly with iPhone), full post code capability in the nav system and, subjectively, a tighter roadholding. I am still trying to figure out if the feature whereby the driver seat moves to the rear when the seat belt is unfastened or the engine is switched off (and the opposite) really is such a good thing. It does aid getting into and out of the seat but there is a danger of crushing anything, including dogs and humans, behind the seat when it starts to move to the rear without any quick way to stop it.
  11. I wonder how the carbon footprint of Cuba, where cars are confined almost entirely to old American gas-guzzlers of the 1950's, compares with those of European countries over, say, the last 50 years.
  12. rayaans said: "As for the IS250, I personally think its a better car than the IS300h. Its more fun to drive and has real character, it may not be fast, but the sound when you put your foot down certainly puts a smile on my face, as well as on the passengers'.". I agree with you, rayaans. When my lovely white IS250 was written off by a BMW last September, my local Lexus dealer offered me an IS300h at pretty well the same price as the IS250 Premier that I fancied. In spite of what was a very attractive offer, I declined the IS300h because it had a 4-cylinder engine rather than a sweet 6, the boot was shallower and the additional complexity would inevitably result in expensive repairs at some point. Car tax may be lower for the IS300h and fuel consumption better, but as I drive only about 4000 miles per year, this is not a big issue. The IS250 is a superb car although I don't think it is much of an improvement on the previous generations. By the way, rayaans, isn't the top rate of income tax 45% rather than 50% and this doesn't kick in until a taxable income of £150000+. Australia and New Zealand are great countries but, in spite of all the problems we have, so is the UK. I have lived in a number of countries and the grass is often far less green than it at first appears - the weather isn't always benign either!
  13. I contacted Owners Club Support and suggested a name change for this forum. Within 12 hours the name has been changed to make it clear that all third generation IS models are covered and not just the 300h. Excellent service from Support, I think.
  14. You are absolutely right - why on earth whoever decides these things couldn't chose something more descriptive and less confusing is beyond understanding. Do you know who does decide these things?
  15. Two seconds (3 flashes takes that or less) before pulling out is, in my view, inadequate warning to other road users. Surely the "mirror, signal, turn" sequence is not intended to be compressed into just a very few seconds.
  16. Here's a thread from the IS250 forum - you are not alone! http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/77457-interior-smell/
  17. Many thanks, Dixgas, this worked perfectly and has greatly improved the lane change utility for me. What on earth were Lexus thinking when they decided that 3 flashes were the optimum?
  18. The OP says the smell is like mildew, which is nothing abnormal. The only report in this thread of anything abnormal is the one about a brake smell, which disappeared after a month. The OP did not notice the smell until after he had the car for 7 months and had driven 15,000 miles, which is quite a lot of use. In much of the UK, we have had a lot of hot and humid weather recently, and this is likely to exacerbate the tendency for bacteria to grow. Given these conditions and the relatively heavy use of the car, I don't think that the smell is anything untoward.
  19. Smells from the aircon (a bit like wet nappies) is very common, and not just in Lexus's (Lexi ?). It is caused, as Phil (The-Acre) says, by bacteria or mold and tends to be more common in hot, humid weather. There are all sorts of cures, typically involving aerosol sprays, but these are seldom very lasting and the smell usually returns fairly soon. Turning the heater up to maximum for a few minutes will usually get rid of the smell although it will often go away on its own after driving a short distance. I honestly do not think that this is a design fault or, if it is, it is one that is shared by many other makes of car.
  20. Seriously, though, I'm with DJP in that the LOC forums are notably devoid of the sort of sarcasm, patronising statements and unpleasant personal attacks that are a feature of many other forums. Of course, there are disagreements but they tend to be conducted in a civilised manner, and the overwhelming forum culture is one of helpfullness, courtesy and consideration. Glad that you like your new Lexus - as the rather nauseating TV advert for a beauty aid says, "you're worth it".
  21. LOC members are refined, urbane and sophisticated so will never be rude. Why the xxx can't you see this, idiot?
  22. You might find a specialist wheel refurbisher closer than Lexus. I used one near where I live. They took a couple of hours and the results were as near perfect as you can wish. The cost was £70 and the damage I had was very slightly worse than yours, so the cost for you might be a bit less. Given that the DIY kit costs close to £25 and it would take a great deal of time and effort to repair your wheel yourself, with uncertain results, i would recommend using a professional.
  23. This is very confusing but here's a simple solution - rename this particular forum "IS 300H and 3rd generation IS 250 Club" or something similar".
  24. Thanks, DJP, for that useful information. I agree that having the speed limit displayed on the map is very useful and I will keep a look out for the camera icon when I hear the double beep. I still think it very odd that there's no mention whatsoever of this feature in the manuals, even if it can't be turned off or modified.
