  1. This is just my opinion but I always thought the mk1 IS/Altezza was a sharpened up version of the W202 Merc C-Class. Still think it's a great looking car, but no denying the Merc DNA, as with every other Lexus model of that era. It's a bit of a shame as for a short while (sparked off by the mk2 IS) it looked as though Lexus were creating their own styling direction but now seems as though that's fallen down. I don't know what it is but this started with the current RX and now this GS, every time I see these new Lexus models I immediately think of Hyundai and Kia - is it that those manufacturers are copying Lexus or vice versa?
  2. My car's just been returned to me after having similar creaking and clunking investigated so haven't had a chance to see if they've sorted it, but the cause of the creaking was rubbers on the end of the trailing arms (I think) which they haven't replaced as they're expensive and there's no problem other than the low speed creak. The clunking was put down to a corroded adjuster bolt that was almost all the way out, as I mentioned haven't tested it yet but they have told me it is sorted.
  3. I'll reserve full judgement till I see it in the flesh but as per the article that is a real disappointment after the LF-Gh concept........ It looks like they've taken a 5 series, Japaneseified it (in other words made it uglier) and then stuck the front of the CT200h on it. Why release that concept if the real car was almost ready and such a visual disappointment in comparison?
  4. I had bubbling on the bonnet of my 9 year old IS200 and despite it having several stone chips an inspection confirmed that it was in fact rusting from the inside and it has just been repaired under warranty. On such a new car, and in such a strange location like the roof, that sounds really harsh - as though the dealer is trying to fob you off. Is there any visible external damage to the paint surface? That's the only way they could get out of a warranty fix.
  5. Can you get tickets via post from laser guns? I thought they had to stop you and physically give you the ticket in that case - hence why he was sitting on a bike. Chances are he wasn't bothered about people doing 40, more interested in those that might have been doing 60 or so.
  6. My money would always go on the Eibachs......
  7. My understanding is that there was only ever one shade of those matt finish lights, so it sounds as though perhaps manufacturing processes have led to it being lighter now (which sounds a bit stupid) Might be worth trying to see if you can find a used one from a breakers that will match or otherwise you may end up having to swap both lights if the colour match is that bad.
  8. As far as I know there is only one colour for those matt finish lights, is it possible your original one has just darkened over time? What does your Lexus dealer say? Surely they will be able to get the right part number using the VIN for your car?
  9. If it is immobiliser related, do you ever see the red security light on while trying to start the car? It should go out when the key goes in the ignition.
  10. I remember that pain from before having the auto fold fitted in the IS200. I think all Lexus cars have autofold mirrors now though, so going forwards shouldn't be an issue. Definitely quite late to the party though (as Lexus seem to be in many areas)........
  11. Many years ago I was an autocar subscriber but nowadays very rarely buy any mags. When I do pick up the odd copy before a flight or something it's usually Evo.
  12. Probably a combination of the engine loosening up and the warmer weather? I definitely get a few mpg more every summer and then it drops away again through the winter.
  13. Probably sounds about right, last GS came out in early 05, IS in late 05. The GS replacement is currently being readied (LF-Gh concept) so I'd imagine that'll be out sometime next year with the IS following behind in late 2012/early 2013.
  14. Forgot about that one! Yep I love it too, although I think being an F1 fan is probably a factor too. I found NFS Shift pretty good for this, and GT5 really bad for this :)
  15. GT5 is amazing in terms of realism, but I found the game really frustrating with all the different things you have to do to progress and stopped playing it. Will start again as I think it's a great game, but requires patience! I really enjoyed Need for Speed Shift (although not everyone agrees) too :)
  16. The IS200 was a pretty cheap car (relatively) when new as well, so it only makes sense that it's still quite cheap :) In all seriousness though, they're quite old, plus all the reasons above re fuel economy and such don't help either.
  17. Same car, I believe he's planning to get this one repaired too :)
  18. As above SE-L is top spec - only options were sunroof, MM and adaptive cruise so not too much to look out for :) Would also recommend the auto, unless you desperately want a manual (but remember the manual sits in the higher road tax band so you'll have to really want a manual to put up with that!)
  19. Yep old topics seem to still be there :)
  20. I went last year (or was it the year before?) and quite enjoyed it! Some beautiful classic cars around, and I found it awesome seeing those cars on track - overall quite glad I went :)
  21. My main annoyance is that with stuff like football you get quite a few matches for your money. If you don't already have Sky Sports and are just getting it for the F1, you are paying the subscription effectively just for 10 races (with the others on the BBC) which to me is a bit of a waste of money. Will be even worse if it's not on Sky Sports 1 or 2 which can be subscribed to individually, if it's on one of the others then I'll be really annoyed.
