  1. To the OP: It appears that you have recently bought this vehicle and you allude to the fact that it also comes with some sort of Third Party Warranty. If you're having a problem with the car so early in your ownership, I would direct you to Consumer Direct and the Sales of Goods Act - both of which will afford you greater protections in your circumstances. I wouldn't be fretting about any costs - but rather asking Lexus to quote for the work they feel needs to be done and then contacting the garage from where you bought the car and getting them to pay Lexus for the repairs. It would be interesting to here what your Third Party Warranty company says it will (or more aptly: wont) pay for as we've been having a discussion on this very forum on the issue of Lexus Warranty (which is expensive) Vs. Third Part products. Good luck, but you are protected by Consumer Legislation that favour you as the consumer!
  2. Surely 4 x 15 = 60? ;) ...so that'd be 6 services (each serivce @ 10K)?
  3. Firstly, sorry to hear about circs! I hope the job-thing works itself out. You are buying the vehicle sight unseen and from a distance so you are protected by Distance Selling Regs. - you have put down a holding deposit, subject to satisfactory viewing and test drive. So if you turn up, view the car, drive it and don't like it ... lets say the colour isn't what you had thought it was from the pictures, you are entitled to a full 100% refund. If after driving it you find it too soft/hard/not to your liking - you are entitled to a full 100% refund. If you find the seats, having sat in them, are not to your liking - are entitled to a full 100% refund. However if you simply change your mind, without viewing the car, and want your money back, then I think you are on very difficult shakey ground. I would not tell the Dealer anything about your change in circumstances; but rather go view it, and walk away saying Its not what you expected and ask for your money back. Anything else/any other reason, you are unlikely to get your 100% deposit back. I prefer buying from a distance, and paying deposit on my credit card, as I am 100% protected. Thankfully the last 3 cars I have bought in this way, the deal has gone through, but if it did not, then I know my rights!
  4. Even as a second service, cost quoted certainly looks like they are taking the proverbial. You could phone around a couple of Lexus Dealers and see if you could get a Lexus GB Service Plan that covers your next 3 services (including this one) ;)
  5. The SE offers options such as ICE and MM - both of which are standard on the SE-L. You don't however get the Woodpack option on the SE, that is exlcusively SE-L only though.
  6. You can buy an SE with the very same Mark Levinson system, so don't feel obliged to buying the SE-L just for this reason.
  7. Hope you never PRANG the front end of that car ;) Good luck to you and HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :)
  8. I accept the Lexus product is expensive, but it pays out without issue. The other product costs less and you have to ask why? Unfortunately, until you have been stung by companies like Warranty Wise, you just don't understand how worthless their cover is and how many hoops they will put you through for each claim. The only warranty worth having is that bought directly from the manufacturer. It costs more (perhaps) because they pay out more ;) ...plus Lexus will cover many more eventualities that WW will not. Pays your money and takes your chances Mate.
  9. Apologies for coming to this thread late BUT ... I have a negative experience of Dealing with Warranty Wise and would strongly urge you to reconsider: I had their premier level warranty on my E46 330i. It suffered two snapped rear coil springs so I popped it down to my local BMW Dealer. It took WW 2 days of faffing about to even assess my claim. Over the two days they came out with every excuse you can think of: Dealer never contacted them; Dealer never returned their claim form etc. etc. - and I know that this was not the case and the Dealer made several documented efforts to show they had indeed done so. So 2 days without my car, and still waiting on them to assess my claim, they finally got the claim form. Sent it back claiming certain information as not included, so another day lost (now at 3 days, still no repair or car). On day 4, WW declined the claim saying that for two springs to snap was impossible and the fault must have been there from before cover commenced (bear in mind that this was 5 months into a 2 year policy and the car had been MOT'd by the Dealer 6 weeks prior to this discovery). So yet more to'ing and fro'ing between myself, Dealer and WW as I fought for them to agree to the cost of repair. This took another 2 days - they then agreed to accept the claim but declined to pay the cost of genuine BMW parts or the full labour rate of the dealer (although i had paid extra for Main Dealer cover). They cited that the costs broken down by the Dealer were excessive and above and beyond what they budget for Main Dealer rates. Their suggestion was that they would pay only for the proportionate cost of what OE parts would cost and if I wanted genuine BMW springs, then to pay for the extra myself. Now bear in mind, my car has been off the road for the best part of a week and I am no closer to getting repair - that cheap warranty is now looking rather expensive, when you consider the amount of my own time I had to plough into getting this resolved as well as the embarrassment I faced with the Dealer who had my car parked on their lot unable to do anything with it! Eventually, WW paid what they believed to be appropriate costs and thanks to BMW UK (through goodwill) made up the remainder. After 10 days, car was repaired and returned to me. I cannot stress how worthless these third party warranties are - the only warranty worth having is the manufacturer backed one: Claims are seamless, claims paid directly tothe Dealer (so you don't have to pay upfront and wait for their cheque), claims almost immediately authorised, all internalised claims process and your Dealer will deal withe verything. Very simple and straightforward and although you pay for it up front, the convenience and worry free element is worth it IMHO. Also, just by example, to help illustrate the true value of the Lexus Extended Warranty, it might be worth asking WW if they will cover the auto. dimming wing mirrors on your car if they go faulty? Lexus Warranty will, but WW wont! I had a Lexus Warranty when we had our RX, posted each time I had a claim on this forum - process was worry-free and had the car back within a day. Pays your money, takes your chances!
  10. I have found the RX runs a non-standard tyre suze anyways. However I have been singularly unimpressed with the Dunlops (too soft, unsure in the wet and very quick to wear) and the Crapstones (irregular wear, too much road noise, no grip in wet, poor cornering ability ...) and so opted for the Conti SUV tyres (the ones that come OE fitments for Cayenne et al ;) ). Kumhos are good, but I have not tried them in an SUV. But if they are anything to go by on my 205 GTi then they could be value for money and very good compromise.
  11. The only reason I would not opt for the SE-L is for the air suspension. It will invariably fail over time and cost to repair can be enormous. Indeed this air suspension is not strictly limited to Lexus, as the Audi Allroad cars suffer from similar failures too. I would look for an SE that comes loaded with the MM and ICE.
  12. Plenty of threads discussing tyres on the LoC (inclusing a couple of mine;) ). My basic rule of thumb is that tyres are the only thing keeping the car in touch with the road, and even then, a part of the tyre about the size of two palms comes into actual contact at any one time. Why would you not want to give yourself the best grip possible and opt for CheapLong-LingLong-Unknown tyres. Michelins/Contis/Dunlops cost more for a reason; buy them as safety at what cost? Just my 2p worth ...
  13. I think you made the right decision. There are plenty of Hybrids on the market - just remember to negotiate harder next time ;)
  14. eBay mate. But yes, that is a very expensive part to replace. EDIT: Are you sure it is missing, there is a specific storage tray in the boot where this item can be stowed; just make sure it is really missing before you go forking money out for it!
  15. Lexus' iPod integration does seem to be leagues behind the likes of people like BMW and Audi :(
  16. Just one thing, is this car being retailed as a Lexus Approved Used Car? If so, and the appropriate service was conducted in May 2010, I don't see a problem because if the car has met a particular standard (HA! HA!) then they have accepted the risk of the missing S/H and it should have no bearing on future warranty claims - which is something that I would be more mindful than resale value. By the time you come to sell, I doubt one missing stamp will make a difference. Of all the cars I have sold, no-one has bothered to check service history that closely, despite my taking great pains to put everything out neatly and carefully ;)
  17. Are you sure its not a sticking caliper instead? I have never known pads to be so tightly fitted.
  18. They do tend to be weak when it comes to stone chips. By all accounts Lexus paint seems to be thin all over. Can't believe they don't galvanise TBH; new one to me!
  19. Also, rememebr, yours is brand new and needs to be run in. It is possible it might get less sensitive over time. Enjoy the car - surely you didn't buy a 2.5+ tonne car for its economy? ;) Enjoy what it is, they sound amazing!
  20. I think you have to send the address book in parts to the MMI. If I find the link I will post it up for you.
  21. Surely its a bearing within the pulley rather than the belt? Something simialr used to happen in the VAG VR6 engine: a tensioner pulley used to dry out after a while and was the cause of the squeal, rather than a belt.
  22. *HmM* You are in a difficult situation as the product on offer has an age or mileage limit and you are approaching the age limit. I'm not sure I would trust any other third party warranty company though...and I wouldn't own an RX outside of a Lexus Warranty. A reason why I sold ours as it reached 6 years old.
  23. All I would say is that you make sure you are buying a Lexus GB Service Plan (IE: one that allows you to take your car to ANY Lexus Dealership for service). The real issue with the Service Plan is that you need to play around with the services to see which combinations work out best - certainly the prices you have listed are very attractive. Just make sure you know what you are buying!
  24. Well the air suspension will be the most expensive to fix; the sunroof motor is a known problem and kinda pales in comparison to the costs associated with the air suspension. Watch out for the handbrake cables that sieze on these cars though...
