  1. I have clutch judder on an IS200 . Ive read some posts going back a few years on here that state its a characteristic of the gear box/clutch and takes time to get used to. Due to my job I get behind the wheel of up to 8 vehicles a day, various ages, from vaux to renault-no 'judder'!!if there was i would whack it in the workshops pronto Ive seen posts by people who have had this that and the other replaced and no joy, or the judder returns some time later. Lexus state its normal. Is it?
  2. will get it in writing .I was ready to walk when the 60k service was suddently thrown in. I made a point of clarifying that cam belt was included and this was agreed. Hopefully this should give me a few years peace of mind...until i get the 250 :D
  3. This is one of those moments when everyone scrutinises ‘what I didnt get ’and rips in to me. I was offered a full refund – enough to buy a new Nissan almera – so was nearly tempted! Alternatively I was offered the following. I have been offered the 50K and 60K services (cam belt and all) free of charge plus next MOT that will fall within the present warranty period (should there be any issues),also new clutch,Geometry check and the other Issues i have listed will be attended to. Also Free tank of fuel and they will collect my vehicle ,return it and hopefully leave me a with 250 for the day. (I live some way from the dealership) I have the 12 month extended manufacturers warranty and the 12 month RAC cover that I have scrutinised and appears substantial (came with the purchase). The vehicle in question is an 04 reg IS200 SE, 1 Owner purchased from same dealership on lease deal, clearly lacking the 20k service .Its had the 10k,30k and just had the 40k service. It has 4 new tyres (Bridgestones), new discs and pads and everything else involved in that service. The alloys look new and corrosion free. It’s had new rear shocks and front ball joints done under warranty. It did have a tow hook,I now know the old boy who owned it towed a trailer caravan 3 times in 3 years he tells me so that’s not an Issue to me now. Bodywork is pristine. The accident was a relatively minor front nearside accident repaired to Lexus standards. I now have all the previous original LEXUS visual safety reports and all ‘original’ computer printouts. I have since had it inspected mechnically by a fully qualified independent third party who has advised me the repair is not noticeable and there are no issues other than the ones that will be addressed by Lexus. The vehicle was just under 10K in price . I might just pop into my 'local' dealer for a free VSR and coffee as well for some more reassurance. The salesman who sold this vehicle to me is no longer with the dealership and has moved on I have been told . thats it.. go on rip into me
  4. update : The matter has been resolved to my satisfaction, thanks to the dealer principal who I met face to face. He has gone a long way towards restoring my faith in Lexus and his dealership. I won’t go into details needless to say I am still with Lexus. I would however advise anybody going to any dealer, be it ‘Lexus’ or whoever, to look at the small print and give the salesman the third degree. Listen carefully to what he says and challenge him on any minor point. 1. As pointed out by Steve an approved Lexus history does not necessarily mean a ‘Full service history’. 2. Accident damage. The dealer does not have to disclose this if its minor, unless YOU ASK.. 3. When you strike that deal, look carefully at the paperwork. I’m assured that the salesman should explain ‘clearly’, exactly what is what, when it comes to the figures. Mine didnt. If you bargain over the price of your part ex..this may well be reflected in the screen price of the vehicle that will be shown as a lower figure. The book trade price will be shown and the screen price will come down to reflect your gain on that trade price. If you find your self in the unusual situation of requesting a refund this may impact on what you get back. Completely unrelated…. Mr 'Robertson' if you are reading this ..85 at Broadstone … :winky: ps did you repair that pitch mark on the 8th..
  5. Update: I really cannot believe what is happening. As stated I was offered a refund. Ive had a very disturbing phone call from the dealership. They are stating that I didnt pay 10k for the vehicle, only 9k!! They told me to look at the paperwork. I didnt haggle over the screen price (10k)but the part ex price. On the paperwork they have reduced the screen price from 10k to 9k and reduced my part ex from 7k to 6k. In other words they have 'lost the gain I haggled over the part ex' by reducing the screen price on the paperwork. The car was up for 10k I took 7k part ex. They are suggesting it was up for 9k!! This is absolutely unbelievable
  6. update: Ive just found out from the previous keeper that this vehicle was involved in a front end collision 6 months ago that resulted in £3500 worth of repairs to the suspension. In addition to the history, they also failed to disclose 'when asked by me' if the vehicle had been involved in an accident at all! :tsktsk: I have been told I can have a refund..but only for the forecourt value of the vehicle ... I reckon im 1.5 to 2 K down on this deal if i accept. For me to go and purchase my previous car back (even private) may cost me up to 2k more than I part exchanged it for. I can feel a major name and shame coming on....not just here..but local press...whats the libel situation on this please mods?
  7. I appear to have averaged about 29mpg from my first ...and possibly last.. tank IS200 SE 45K on clock Ive put my foot down when required....air con as required and a liberal use of 6th gear when cruising also mixture of town ,motorway and slow by pass traffic
  8. thats a get out clause and a half... Ive since found out my vehicle had a tow bar fitted. It was a lease vehicle and the previous owner quite clearly didnt give it a t_ss about the car..which is a shame. It was 12000 miles over the 2nd service (which includes brake fluid)..it was then 5000 miles over the last service (40k) Lexus have tried to do catch up with it. Ive found out that the rear shocks were exchanged under warranty (what the hell was it towing) as were the the front ball joints (no suprise there) but Lexus dont readily admit to telling you warranty work do they? and ive found this out through a third party. The long and short of it is..Lease a vehicle, treat it like dirt..give it back to Lexus and they will tart it up sell it to some punter and tell the him the service history is in the post. Ive also found rust along both seams in the boot on both sides, the clutch slips and it knocks like hell from the front. Things are ongoing with the dealer..and the beast is sat outside sulking at me
  9. Quick update: WHAT IS A LEXUS APPROVED SERVICE HISTORY? Being doing some digging about the vehicle. According to the dealership in question, missing a full 20,000 mile service (by 10,000 miles !!)is not an issue and according to them still meets the requirements as set down by Lexus GB !! Is this a first? Lexus can turn a missing service (full) into a vehicle with a 'Lexus Approved' Service History. Apparently so. A 'Lexus approved service history' doesnt mean a full service history. How convenient-especially when not disclosed to the customer. I will be following this point up with Lexus GB on monday as I was specifically told FLSH- and dont forget this was the service history conveniently mis-placed until a week after I had purchased the vehicle. I have done the following: 1. Asked them to source me another vehicle as per 30 day no quibble policy (*** only knows what they will turn up and I really do get the feeling I will be shafted on this one.) 2. Enquired about a full refund Could be the shortest Lexus ownership in history.
  10. aido I paid 10k for a 2004 reg IS200 SE with 45k on the clock from a Lexus dealer. Ive been looking for months and still cannot find anything from Lexus that matches that price ..found a few privates that match it my worry is that if i reject the car (dodgy stamps and all) I will end up bargaining over something similar and paying extra... oh well..Ive a few weeks to decide.. its a no quibble return policy apparently
  11. re the stamps, it was 'so bleeding obvious ' they were new stamps as it says 2007 on every one apparently..as pointed out by the missus and there was me comparing handwriting samples
  12. Just thought I would give you an update: I took the car back today and was presented with the 'missing' service history book. This was when I lost it a bit (and if you have sussed out who I am Lexy dealer I apologise to the young lady on the front desk) The services had been retrospectively stamped back until new and was clearly a duplicate. What gave it away was the dealer stamps all bore the new dealers address...yet i dont think the dealer has been there for more than a year. This naturally made me even more concerned. It was so obvious that this had been filled out recently. When I questioned the service book being back dated/ and when was this done and was this the orgininal? I didnt get a straight answer. I still dont have a straight answer to that one! I just wanted to know ' was it a duplicate and if so why didnt you tell me there was no book from the start'? After arguing the toss for ages about the stamps in the book and getting nowhere I was offered another vehicle..this offer is still open to me but I dont have confidence in a process that will source a car from anywhere in the UK. I have been assured by Lexus that this vehicle has a service history. I have TODAY been given printouts that show it has been the subject of 3 services (albeit two were 20,000 miles and 16 months apart) and Im aware that it has had a recent and thorough service. Hence i expect I will keep the vehicle. I have contacted the previous owner. He told me he never got the book stamped after all but assured me the vehicle went in for servicing. He even said he was questioned about the lack of a service book when he returned it, but he told Lexus 'look on your computer'. The crazy thing is that if Lexus had said to me 'The previous owner didnt get his book stamped, here are computer printouts that prove the history and we will supply a duplicate book' I would have accepted it.' My guess is that no book and the gap between the 2 services of 20k / 16 mths would have decreased their bargaining power on the part ex! I just wish they had been 'up front' from the start.
  13. thanks for the replies..im up and down like a yo-yo on this....im guessing that anyone can stamp a book and likewise any car dealer can forge a service history on a computer ... the galling thing is that i chopped in a top quality motor, that was newer than the IS200 and owned from new by me, with 16k on the clock... thinking I would get total and utter confidence, honesty and satisfaction from a LEXUS dealer ..not this mess I will visit the dealer tomorrow, with my magical 3 keys and someone elses service history book and speak with the manager.. keep you posted
  14. thanks for that...feel better already. They say they supplied it from new and the last service was indeed done by them as I have a printout that was shown to me during the 'lets negotiate a price' process'... £1200 not inc VAT..ouch Its the previous 3 services I dont have. By the way, great forum....great car..have to return it for a knocking noise on the front offside....happens when I turn left over slightly uneven ground. According to the printout they re-tourqued the suspension due to loose ball joints.....do they get 'loose' or is it wear and tear and should i be looking at replacements under warranty
  15. Im getting a bit tetchy over this one. Im not going to name the dealership as im sure the situation will be resolved in some way shape or form! The long and short is that I purchased an IS200 from a Lexus dealer recently .3 years old, highish mileage for year but mint condition. On collecting the vehicle I was given 3 keys. However the service history and the leather folder etc that comes with it was not forthcoming. I was told that it was locked in admin! In the glovebox was a well thumbed owners manual! I thought that this was a bit shabby to be honest but was assured everything would be sent to me. At this point I will admit to being a 'mug' having not actually examined the service book having been readily reassured on the test drive that it was one owner FSH etc etc and also having read the pre-owned Lexus guarantee about mileage, service history etc. I was also lulled into a false sense of security by the lobby that looked like a 5 star hotel, the very attractive receptionist and the coffee!! Nothing came through the post and after a few phone calls I sent a mate around to the garage (I live some way from it) to pick up my documents as arranged. He did- but didnt look at them - and presented them to me a few days later.... Very nice they were..but they are for a completely different car.... :duh: doubts then crept in when I examined the MOT - its a duplicate issued the day before I picked the car up! I can only presume my service history has been lost or mislaid and im hoping that they will prove me wrong. I had a chat today with someone fom the dealership who offered a duplicate history if they couldnt find the originals. Now this is the crux of this post. Is a 'duplicate' Lexus service history as acceptable as the original ? I intend to keep the car for a few years and sell it on. How will this effect its value and would you accept it as you would the original? Im presuming its all computerised and im getting worked up over nothing. I have total trust that something will be sorted and praying they will turn up the original documentation but I do have the option of the 30 day return...that actually sounds very griefy. Any opinions appreciated
