  1. The best way i've found to clean the interior (including the screen) is a microfibre cloth.
  2. Liking the car mate! Looks stunning. You seem to have detailed it very well. Happy driving B)
  3. Here you go Norman have a look HERE! mate, Pictorial guide Courtesy of Geoffers on here :) You'll need two 501 bulbs aswell mate :D You're a star! Can't believe it's that long winded though! Will give it a go at the weekend. Hate those plastic plugs holding the lining in by the way - cut my fingers everytime! Anyway, cheers once again :)
  4. Chaps, I can't seem to figure out how to get at the bulb for the rear numberplate light! It's driving me nuts! Any ideas? Do I strip out the lining on the inside of the boot lid first?? The manual is vague at best when it comes to this. I can then have a look at what bulb I need and pay a visit to the likes of Halfords... Ta, Noman
  5. Evening folks... My RX goes in for its 70k service this week in Notts. and while booking I asked about a new sat nav disc. I was quoted about £100 for a new one. Couple of questions though... 1). The lady said I would get a "couple of discs to cover Europe". I found this a little strange as I believed the one DVD disc covered the WHOLE of Europe. Correct? Or am I wrong? Anyone know how Europe has been split up over the discs? 2). WHERE is the DVD nav drive?? I've had a look all over but can't find any loading mechanism! 3). Does the nav disc also update the operating system? 4). When are new maps out? Should I wait on for a bit longer? Cheers, Noman
  6. It's great to hear when things go well! Just a shame that not all dealers are like that.
  7. Tricky one this. When I bought my RX it wasnt really looking for a SUV - just something comfy, reliable and good brand image :) For me the only other two cars that came close were the GS300 and the BM 5 Series (both petrol)! I had a 5 series before so wanted to go back but the price point for the spec i wanted wasn't quite there. I must say the new LS has REALLY grown on me too. Maybe next time...
  8. 20K per set seems reasonable, I have a friend with the 4x4 Audi and she only gets 12k set just going to and from school 12k?? I'm guessing she has the Q7?? A friend of mine had the one with 19inch wheels and suffered the same. It was only when he upgraded(!) to 21inch Audi wheels did it improve to 18k! :D
  9. I bought one of these 2-3 weeks ago. Lexus offered to fit it for me at the equivalent of 30 mins labour (£45). I took it down to them one morning, it took them 10 mins to fit it and 2hrs 10mins to try and get it to work! 90 mins into their attempts to get it to work, it shut down my sat nav, climate control, stereo and heated seats.... This took 15 mins to put right again. Eventually after going in to the workshop and seeing them struggle to get it to work, i was so fed up (particularly as i had seen 3 Griffin i-trip autopilot's break in the last 2 months!), i asked Lexus to fit their official aftermarket ipod adaptor. After confirming to me that my ipod touch 2g would be compatible, they booked me back in a couple of days later to have the work done and as a gesture of good will, only charged me for the unit of £140, not the labour to fit it. To make things even more pleasing for me, although they took 2hrs 20mins to try and fit the GROM, they only charged me an hours labour (£90), which they would have charged to fit the official aftermarket one anyway. I have spoken to the very helpful gentleman who sold me the GROM from a company called Carputer.com and he is going to refund me and let the makers know what their interface did to my car and he has asked them to contact me directly, not that i expect any response. In summary: GROM system- Rubbish, and, more importantly, potentially dangerous to electrics in the car! Lexus official system- Is not as good as it could be, but gives me access to 6 playlists/artists etc with up to 99 songs in each. All i need really..... Lexus Plymouth- Very reasonable dealer, that puts customers first.... Oh dear. It all seems to have gone wrong for your install. I know 6 other people who have now installed the GROM in their RX - 4 of them having the RX400h and the new sat nav system. NONE of them experienced any problems. The installation really is SO quick and easy i'm bewildered as to what could have gone wrong with yours. Glad it's all sorted though - both on your car as well as the refund from Carputer.
  10. I bought mine from the UK distributor. Check out their website here. As for the radio model - I have no idea which one other than it's the one fitted to the SE-L with the Mark Levinson and sat nav system. Best to check with the dealer if possible just in case they changed the connections, etc. between different model years but I don't believe they did. The only change to the stereo I know about came with the much newer cars where you could play DVD's through it. I can't rate this highly enough. Charges and plays all the tunes and I can't believe I ever did without it. I know the Vais one is meant to be better integration with screen info, etc. but I never look at the track info anyway B)
  11. Isn't Leicester Lexus closer for you? I ask because I am between the 2 dealerships and have always used Leicester-are Coventry likely to be better? It is indeed closer. LOTS closer...but i've found the service chap there rather arrogant and has very rarely ever returned my calls. The chap in the parts department though is brilliant!
  12. Sounds good. Thanks for the insight. Will call up Lexus Coventry as my RX is due for a service in the next month or so...
  13. I've always found Lexus Bradford the a-typical car dealer - are your best friend BEFORE buying but a COMPLETE waste of time afterwards. Can't stand them at all. I know a couple of other people who have had the same experience too so it isn't just me so watch out! Hope your experience with them turns out better. Keep us posted.
  14. Hi Mike, I'm looking to get one of these DA's and I think it's going to be the G220 for me too! Where did you get it from in the end?? I'm being tempted to get it from Polished Bliss as they seem to know their stuff very well. Can't wait to see your results on the '460...keep us posted B) Ta, Noman
  15. This would be the ONLY way I would consider a Service Plan at the moment. I'm also quite reluctant because dealerships could get taken over and standards slip leaving you HAVING to go that particular one (or another one from their "group").
  16. Good Lord, surely not! The Crapstones are awful, pitiful. Get soemthign else! REALLY?! Blimey I always thought they were the ones to get! Ooops. I don't want a super-soft compound as I do want them to last. Oh well. The search continues but it will no doubt come down to price.
  17. Thanks for info Laura. The raised edges certainly sound like a worthwhile addition. One of the Ebay items seems to be the OEM variety so will keep my eye on it. Fingers crossed will pick it up for a great deal cheaper than buying new.
  18. My boot area is getting rather untidy these days so I was looking at getting the OEM boot liner. Anyone else have this? How well does it protect? It's about £90 so not exactly pocket money so thought I had better ask. Ta.
  19. I'm on the look out too and I think I may well stick to the "standard" Bridgestone Potenza's. They seem to be the favoured choice...
  20. Sorry to see you go :( However...I used to have a 530D Sport and still miss it terribly. Was a truly fantastic driving experience and very few cars come close. Unfortunately the reliability for me at least (1 blown turbo, two lots of injectors plus other issues) was the reason I switched to Lexus so keep an eye on things! Like others have said, post up some pics soon of your new motor.
  21. Really liking the car and colour! The white has grown on me - the pearl effect is amazing! Enjoy!
  22. Was this an arrive-and-drive type of day open for all cars?? I've been to Donnington a couple of times where they've operate an open pit-lane for about 30 cars so I would love to have a go at Bedford. Any info would be much appreciated! ta.
  23. Take a look at my other posting as I have just done the GROM AUDIO install on my RX!
  24. Well, I went for the GROM AUDIO Version 2 in the end (as it worked with the iPhone 3G) and picked it up yesterday! Using the link in my initial post I set about taking the stereo out. Good news for all you peeps yet to try it is that it really is SO simple! The only tricky part was removing the two (almost hidden) screws holding the radio in - the danger being that they would fall in. Looks like the owner or dealer who had the car before me must have taken the unit out as one of the really-tricky-to-remove-without-dropping screws were already missing! The cable I had to use by the way was the "TOY" cable and NOT the "TOY1" variety. One of the smaller existing connectors on the stereo had to come out and plug into the "Y" cable (i.e. the "TOY" one) before plugging back into the main GROM unit. All nice and easy. Anyway, whole process only took about 30mins and everything worked first time. I will now buy a phone holder (probably a Brodit one) that can hold the iPhone in place while I drive. Another plus point is that the stereo controls also work AND so does the CD changer. Definitely recommended. I'm now going to get one for her indoors and her IS! Many, many thanks to all that provided the much needed advice. B) Radio removed and testing everything: Wires at the back of the unit: Cables & plugs at the back of the unit:
  25. You may remember I was looking for a solution where I could use my iPhone 3G in the RX...after a look in the audio section of this site i saw something called the GROM interface. For about £70 it seems like a bargain compared to the VAIS/Dennison solution... Anyone have any experience?? The chaps in the IS section seem to rave about it so can't be bad IMO... The Carputer website says it's just plug and play so fingers crossed should be an easy install...any tips?? I saw this posting about how to take the radio out. Any other tips?? Ta, Noman
