RX450hl purchase
Normski replied to jpjsavage's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
That's easy - the Cayenne by a long way 😉 The general handling, ride, brakes, etc. were so much better than the RX (even when compared to the latest IMO). However, my 2nd gen RX (300, 04 plate, SE-L) was the winner if you just want to waft along (and it still puts many to shame)! One bonus I also found were the residuals with the Porsche. Would recommend driving both air sprung and non-air riding Cayenne's along with cars with/without PASM (their suspension management system). I found, for my driving at least, I preferred cars without air. -
RX450hl purchase

I ran the 958 model of Cayenne (diesel) to around 150k miles. It ran a pretty hard life too. Maintenance costs were in line with the Lexus - and that was with a OPC (main dealer). Reliability was top notch and the warranty great and the extended one not too dissimilar in price to the Lexus. Consumables (like tyres) - in line with Lexus. In fact despite it wearing 21" rubber the cost of good tyres (Pirelli PZero's for example) worked out to be a tiny bit cheaper than the 19's on the RX! Would deffo go back to the Cayenne if I could. I was lucky to have a great dealer near me so that does play a big part (irony - the Lexus dealer me I don't really rate). -
Hello and first question
Normski replied to RonsonSJohnson's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
Always found OE ones to be the best. Get some rubber ones as they would be the easiest to keep clean. Lexus parts link: https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/parts/lexus-rx/lexus-rx-phase-iii-2009-2015/lexus-rx-3-exterior-interior/lexus-rx-phase-3-black-rubber-floor-mats/ ...but check your local dealer too as they sometimes run promotions. -
My experience has been as long as it's taken out before the cars 10th birthday you can get another 2 years of warranty (i.e. until the car reaches 12 years old). I've done this quite a few times times and the dealership has honoured claims.

^ LOL! Like many things they don't make them like they used to...

Pretty much any fryer. Cleaning is always such a pain in the backside you end up not bothering. Dualit toasters. Look great but gave up the ghost after 2 years. On the positive side....best vac has been the red Henry and the best washing machine the base model Miele. Both get properlyabused multiple times a day 7 days a week with everything that two kids can somehow manage to produce 😉

Child seat question

I've found the MaxiCosi RodiFix to be superb: https://www.johnlewis.com/brand/maxi-cosi/group-2-and-3-car-seat/isofix-compatible/_/N-1z13zwpZ1z0ejb0Z1z0eeub ISOFIX is the way to go IMO. There's no guessing/tightining fo belts/etc. involved. Fix and away you go. I think any car seat has the potential of marking the seats. I've always used these to protect the seats and they work really well: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Smart-eLf-Car-Seat-Protector/dp/B07TKB5SWG/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=seat+protector&qid=1616841891&sr=8-5 ...and while you're at it get something like these to protect the seat backs from the inevitable kicking 🙂 https://www.amazon.co.uk/BRICA-Deluxe-Seat-Kick-Mats/dp/B07CBPLZKW/ref=sr_1_23?crid=CDLTERARCQPB&dchild=1&keywords=seat+back+protector&qid=1616841934&sprefix=seat+back%2Caps%2C175&sr=8-23 -
Tyre Recomendations
Normski replied to Burroo 67's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
Isn't the RX400h mainly FWD...add to the equation the weight of the car you're not going to get brilliant wear on any tyre. Also need to consider the mid-range ones may well be a harder compound. I'm running GoodYear Wrangler All Weather tyres on the RX450h. The fronts DO wear quicker like yours have. When I had the RX300 I used Kumho's and they worn quite evenly. Anyway, could be worth switching to the same brands all round?? -
RX 300 interior lights
Normski replied to Terry Russell's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
They don't. What I did on my 04 plate RX300 was to install a low output LED just in the ledge above them. Worked a treat. I tapped into the switched 12v supply just behind the panel so was super easy. -
Tail light blown, which bulbs?
Normski replied to Shelside's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
Didn't think the '300 or the '350 came with LED's for the side bulbs - only the '450?? Just be wary as some LED bulbs can cause error messages so don't put the trim back until you are happy with everything... -
I found the OEM one the best fit and had a slight lip to it so any dirt stayed inside a great deal better. Would also go with the boot edge protector and the mud flaps as all have been brilliant! Ta, Noman

Lexus RX 450 door search
Normski replied to bilal76's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
Could depend on how original you want the repair to look at the end. If you don't mind the odd imperfection would look to a bodyshop willing to take the work on as a full repair. Sometimes making the car look 'as new' actually highlights more issues with the rest of the car. Anyway, take the car to a few repairers and see what they say and have a look at the kind of repairs they are doing. -
Digging this post up guys. Just had the same diagnosis on a 2012 F Sport. Dealer wants £2k!!!!! Help please. Really worried as the MOT is also due so really hope they don't fail it on that. What options do I have and any recommendations on what folk have done to resolve this?? I'm in Leicester so if you happen to know who to recommend would be greatly appreciated. 😞

I'm sure someone on here recommended these so I've gone with these on my GS: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-D4S-Genuine-LUNEX-XENON-BULB-6000K-compatible-with-XenEco-42402-Xenarc-66440/291780531328 I've found the light output does deteriorate after about 12months so I've replaced them a few times now. Still WAY cheaper than what the main dealer wanted. Next time around may try a different brand though.

Good to hear! Fingers crossed indeed! One thing to note is that the bulbs I bought only lasted around 6months but the second lot last have been going around 9months. So may be worth while keeping a second set at hand...

What did you actually replace? Mine was doing the same so I replaced both bulbs and problem was solved. If you have done this, it could well be the ballast(s). These must be quite expensive from dealers but could try the likes of ECP??

For me I think it's good value. Got another 2 years put onto my GS just before it hit 10 years. When you consider breakdown is just about £200 a year alone, totally rely on the car and do a fair few miles a year (approx.25k) it worked. Her RX F Sport is due now so will be going for the 2 year option there too
