  1. Back..... I did as you said, and the volt reading with the engine on and with plenty of revs took it up to 14.33v on the passenger side. But it still would not fire, to which my dad mentioned "will you just reset the damn ECU!" I pulled out the 2 fuses, waited 5mins, put them back in again, started it up and it worked! :D So it seems the ECU was doing something to stop the ballasts from firing, I wish i can tell you what it was that it was doing! :S The problem i now have is the 2 bulbs are different colours, one is bluey/white, and one is green/white.... This HID mod is endless! Geoffers, thanks again for your help!
  2. Thats alot to take in there Geoffers, but im grateful for it all. I'll head back outside and try all that you suggested. I'll be back in an hour :) Thanks again
  3. Hi All I recently bought a set of HID bulbs and ballasts from an eBay seller. After alot of mess with getting it all working, I reached a point where I had both bulbs working fine for a week, then the passenger side bulb failing. Got the bulb replaced, but it now does not work on that side of the car. To reiterate, the bulb and ballast when connected to the driver side Lexus plug, would work fine, connecting it to the passenger side Lexus headlight plug, and it doesn't work any more, also to note, that when I plug my old halogen bulb back in, it works fine, just not the Xenon one. After looking at the wiring diagrams i got off eBay, it shows that the control switch in the cabin passes through the ECU then to the lamps to switch them on. I thought I would check, with my volt meter, the power going to each plug and found that the driver side reads 12.04v and the passenger side at 12.01v, a very very marginal difference, which has led me to believe the following... Could the bulb that died when it was working, "shock" the ECU into "limp" mode of power to the passenger headlamp bulb by limiting the amount of volts to that side, just enough to prevent my new bulb and ballast from firing up but enough for the older halogen one? would resetting the ECU help? [i'm reluctant to do so as i have no way of retrieving codes on there if any, and i dont want them lost] Is there anything i can try to get it working? or anyone who has had this kind of problem before? I know of a relay that you can buy to pick up power directly from the battery [thanks Wozza] but there are so many others who have a set working that did not need to do so. Any help would be grand Thanks Signing out, a puzzled Vyker
  4. Thanks for that Wozza, It's sounding like it can be just a straight swap. How about the tweeters by the wing mirrors? did you get those replaced when you did you ICE modding?
  5. I'm another customer of WIM, I had to replace my front 2 tyres as a result of the inner tyre wear problem. Im happy for you to use the data stored at WIM for my car! Ill keep a close eye on this, and hope we get to a good outcome! All the best!
  6. 27538 here, took my time with it, didnt realise it worked it out with time. cool game
  7. Good Topic... Im probably the most unusual buyer, I never really had an opinion on the IS, i dont even remember it when it came out in 1999, a friend had one, and i thought it was a nice car, but never even thought to even consider ever even owning one ever! :P So when I was looking for a car, using a hire car on the company, i got alot pressure from my boss to get a car asap as im costing the company too much in hire ca costs. At the time i was looking at Golf's Bora's, A4's, but never liked the fact they were so gadget less, which is when my mate said "what about that lexus".... First autotrader search of it, and i loved it, had everything, then i spotted one with satnav, thought "wow gadgets, must get it", first IS i saw that was in budget, i went out and bought... and the rest is history :) I wont keep it long though, as i really want an IS300 with TTE bumpers and Widescreen Satnav! but they are sooo hard to find!. If i dont get that, ill end up in an overpriced e46 330ci :) Keep your posts coming, this is an interesting read!
  8. that is a cool mod, very well done there. Dan, whats happened to your screen? mine is still holding up well since we WD40'd it.
  9. you will also need the centre console to house the mk1 remote control. its not an easy job to retro fit, and i suspect that listing is just for spares. good luck
  10. haha Stav, thats why your car is so much more cooler then mine :)
  11. Hello Everyone, Just thought it would be fitting to celebrate my 1year anniversary of my IS200. I bought the car on the 9th Feb 2007 for £4,800.... and here are some stats.. I've driven 16,300miles. I've spent £2,443.13 on Fuel The car costs me 34p/mile My highest MPG was 30.1mpg back in June 2007 My average MPG - as in my signature - is 25.4mpg Fuel has averaged at £17.53 per every 100miles i drive. I have spent £2,933.84 on servicing, MOT, Tax, Insurance, repairs, mods.. everything. Total spend on the car has been £5,376.98 <-- that figure is EVERYTHING! i really mean EVERYTHING! I've posted 300+ times on the forum... under 1 a day :( I've been to only one meet, which im sad to report, many failed attempts however The Mods ive done to it.....well... A sport grille :P oh oh and some HID's :) I've loved owning the car, its so much fun to drive, I've had my ups and downs, from the Bird strike and the lorry, to my recent spin, but all in all, its a great car. I would have loved to have been able to get rid of it and buy Gords supercharged car, but that just never materialised. Some Pictures... Here it is on the dyno at TDi Here is its Dyno Chart Here it is at WiM Here is its almost life threatening timing cam belt Its Sport Grille And finally.... my avatar picture :) As you can probably see, i'm a bit of a meticulous statistician, but hey, it helps me work out if my company dont pay me enough to run it, thankfully they are. May there be another year of great ownership and membership to the wonderful LOC. Here here to LOC! :) Signing out, a pleased Vyker!
  12. I think i can answer that, shut me up if you dont agree. But its all to do with economies, in this country, £26k on car gets you BMW 3series, because that is what we are happy to pay to be able to drive that brand of car, its in line with what we get paid in our annual salaries. To sell a LS460 for the same price would mean that the premium brand of the LS would be in the same line as that of a top end Mondeo, we get paid more here, and so for premium products, we need to pay more, we want to pay more, to say "i spent £57k on a car" is almost, at least it is these days, a cool thing to say, it shows you've made it, and thats what these people who can afford these cars, like to say, they like to be able to spend that money. So if the LS was the price of that in the US, it wont be a premium product and so wont attract those who want to spend that kind of money. I think this can probably be explained alot better using more business economics terminology, but that gets boring :P
  13. Ofcourse not, you can 360 a car doing next to no mph! as soon as the wheels spin with no grip, you go round, and that can happen at 10mph, 50mph or 100mph! Theres also enough shift in balance of the car to take it round without using any of the force generate from the speed of the car, bit like the pendulum effect Thank you A-level Physics :P
  14. Lets clear this up then eh! Firstly, I understand what Oldcro is saying, but what i dislike about his comments, is that he has rushed into the assumption that my situation this morning is something i choose to do deliberately. I did not choose to spin my car around, nor was i speeding as other LOC'ers seem to suggest, I know that I made a mistake by changing gear too early, I never claimed it was the fault of anyone else, it was the fault of my misjudgment, a mistake. My post was simply to vent my relief that, thank god, no one was hurt, or no damage was done and that i could drive away safely, for that to then be interpreted as to glorify unsafe driving is a little distressing, as this particular roundabout is one i drive round daily, and i would consider myself an aware driver. For Oldcro to then assume that i'm unaware and rush in with the statement that, god forbid, a small child would be a potential risk of the consequences of my mistake, is unfair and unsettling, regardless of its harsh truth. I know this! So none of the comments are uncalled for, and I'm thankful that nothing happened, and i thank you all for your comments, but just a note to Oldcro, don't rush to assumptions, in most cases they tend to be unfounded, especially when I've provided you with so little information to assume i will run over a child! Anyhow, safe driving everyone :)
  15. Well i never claimed otherwise, as the quote below, but thanks for your comment anyway! The roads are wet round here Kam, i just bought a set of Dunlop SP3000A tyres, premium stuff, plenty of tread, great tyres, not so great driver :P going to fast! Im surprised oldcro can even read these threads, the writing must appear tiny from way up there on his high horse. :P Hehe, you're right Loggy, but i prefer "didnt slow down" as opposed to "going too fast". Thanks for the comments everyone!
  16. theres no link between the flashing seat belt light and the heater unit, as mine light never flashes and the heated seat still works. im going with a loose connector under the seat!
  17. I spun my IS at a roundabout. I was driving down a country lane, its a looooong straight road, doing usual speed. At the end of the road there is a roundabout, so i was braking hard dropping down the gears, but i don't think i slowed down enough.... as i entered the roundabout, still hard on the brakes, i dropped it into second, the car was carrying too many revs, so as i engaged the clutch, the back wheels went, as i was already turning into the roundabout, and the balance of the car nose down/front heavy, the back went, i did a full 360, thank god i hit nothing and there were no other cars, reversed it straight and drove on. A close call, but all my own fault, the car was still cold, had been in it 1/2mins, i shouldn't have taken it into second, i probably would have had enough grip to coast it round in 3rd, then change later...... But boy is it one hell of an adrenalin rush! thankfully i stayed sharp and cool, i think i did my best to keep it on the road and not hit the kerbs, id be lying if i claim i steered it to safety but id like to think i corrected it slightly and reacted quickly. :P Drive safe LOC'ers Signing out, a pumped Vyker!
  18. I've got the same problem, but on the offside, general consensus is that we are suffering from leaking shocks, but im sure someone will be around to clarify, or help troubleshoot further. Good luck
