  1. Yes and I think so. I decided it was not worth the risk for a number of reasons. 1. The ECU's can differ year to year, country to country, man or auto trans. So the possibility that the ECU would be the exact match for my model and year of IS200 was slim. 2. The door locks are apparently a pain to change. 3. I originally thought it would not be that cost effective Lexus service gave me the number of a company in Sydney which has the equipment to deprogram and reprogam and ECU and get replacement keys. I went for this option. Cost? F'ing hell! It was not cheap. Price in Aus dollars; $880 to reprogram the ECU. $300 for the genuine 3 button lexus key. $60 to lasercut the key. 1 hours labour. I got two keys so all up it was over $1800! I'm just repeatedly telling myself how more expensive and inconvenient it would have been if I lost my one and only valet key. I'm also spending "quality" time pressing the lock, unlock and boot buttons. Apparently (I was told after the purchase) that you can buy the standard lexus key with no buttons for $47.
  2. Hmmmm interesting question. My guess is that it would be possible, as this is basically the process a dealer would go through to replace it. You'd need the keys, the ECU and all the lock barrels, that's ignition, doors, bootlid and glovebox. But in principle, yes I think it'd work. Is the alarm and immobiliser built into the engine ECU or is it a separate unit - anyone? Cheers MikeB. After speaking with Lexus and a couple of autoelectricians. 3. Hi, I've posted this in another topic "Replacement Keys" but I haven't had a response so I thought I would start a new topic. I am wondering if it is possible to replace my ECU from another IS200? With my current IS200 I only have the "valet" key but I have found someone who is wrecking/breaking an IS200 and he has a master key with keyless remote. Do you think swapping the ECU from the wrecked IS200 would allow me to use the master key in my IS200? Cheers for any advice. D.
  4. I've been given a price of 25pounds for the master key and 125pounds for the ECU. Is that reasonable? If anyone can tell me whether swapping the ECU out would work that would be great! Thanks.
  5. That's what I'm thinking!! Now need to let the wrecker know that parts I need and hopefully he will know what I'm talking about. He says he's not familiar with the IS200. So does anyone know whether this will work? Do the ECU's differ from year to year and model of IS200? So i would also need to find a locksmith who can cut a masterkey from a valet.
  6. Thanks for you response. I now know the difference betweent the two keys. So what if I took the ECU from this wrecked car? What else would I need besides the ECU and master key? Is the ECU easy enough to swap out? Cheers.
  7. I'm in the same boat as greyarea. Bought an IS200 2000 model privately and since all my other cars have been pretty basic I never thought twice about there being only one key. Anyway I'm yet to pick the car up but I'm certain it must only be the "valet" key as it has no buttons and when it was inspected the inspector noticed he could not open the boot with it (he should have known better). Anyway, I've been able to track down a wrecker who has a master key from a damaged IS200. Got a few questions I'm hoping someone maybe able to help on; 1. How can I determine the key is a master key (he says it's a 3 button remote key)? 2. What other parts will I need from the car? Locks, ignition barrel, immobiliser transponder, anything else? 3. How difficult is it to swap out these items on the car? Better to hand it over to a pro? Thanks, D.
