  1. Hi Deke and Welcome. Must say you have pretty good timing there old bean, as i was just about to post the same question myself today. I too have an LPG converted GS300 and havnt really driven it much but have pretty much the same problem as you by the looks of it. Last time the red light on the LPG gauge came on i put in £16 of gas which topped it up, but it took around 40litres in. 120 miles later and the damn red light is back on again. I mean it seems to have burned 40litres of gas off like the it was whiskey and the car was a serious alchy! Was told by the bloke i bought it off that the red light comes on even though the tank has only reached quarter. I dont know if that is true or not but i want to let it run dry so i can get a true figure. However iv been told that letting it run out on gas may let air in and that wont be a good thing, on the other hand if it let it run dry on gas then it should just switch back to petrol. Damn thing raises more questions than it answers really. My original theory was the MAf aswell, as my performance has taken a serious hit aswell. Another thing it could be is the spark plugs not taking too well to creating a spark with a fuel that doesnt burn so easily. I was looking through another thread the other day and there was a link to a site whereby they sold some NGK plugs. Them plugs were claimed to be specifically for cars running on LPG, and that claim was from NKG themselves. And it sort of does make sense aswell, as spark plugs do contribute to MPG.
  2. Yeah my engine makes a noticeably higher pitched sound like a slight whistle when running on gas aswell, so i think thats all normal. It must be the way the gas is injected in as opposed to the petrol.
  3. Ok, a new bit of info. I had heard of this years ago but had forgotten about it until some one mentioned it at work the other day. My problem is that the "rear light out" light is on on the dash board, yet all my rear lights are working!!! A possible answer, which you would never think of, is that the bulbs may be of a different voltage than those recommended by Lexus. Surely some one must have replaced a light bulb in the past at some stage, if they used a bulb of a different voltage than that too could trigger the light, despite the bulb working. Does any one know what power bulbs are used at the back? Cheers.
  4. Told you it would be the gas. Plugs and leads would make it run rather crap, but not shake it around. and they would also cause it to shake when running on petrol aswell, hence why i asked what it ran like on petrol. To be perfectly honest with you, it could just be a case of trial and error for the first couple of weeks till it gets sorted mate. Its only new and he may never have installed it on another GS300 before. I wouldnt sell it just yet, id see what happens in the next month or so.
  5. Theres a fair few places that fuel cut off switch could be, and you could spend a fair few weekends looking for it. Might be best to go and ask Lexus themselves. They should be able to tell you if it has one and where it should be.
  6. Can you get me the part number from your reciept please, il quote him that when im the phone to him. And when you say he was concerned about them not fitting them to the UK spec car, did it say US or Japanese version on the box or something like that?
  7. You might not have a code on yours. Remember the code can be cancelled aswell as set to what ever you want.
  8. If it ran perfectly well before the gas conversion then its surely the LPG thats the cause, i cant see the cylinders or injectors doing this. I have a 1994 GS300 SE with LPG. Havnt driven it too much as yet but it runs pretty solidily with LPG. Iv noticed that the LPG robs the car of some serious power in mine but otherwise it doesnt cause a problem. As with the temprature thing, mine starts on petrol, then switches to gas when its warm enough. Sometimes however it changes over to gas too quick whilst the car is still cold and then it can start to judder and hesitate until it warms up. Switching it back to petrol normally sorts it out. Any car that has rough idle when running on gas when its nice and warm has a problem with the LPG. I would get the car nice and warm with a long drive then park it up. If it shakes and idle then switch is over onto petrol. If that makes it stop then its definatly your LPG system. If it shakes with petrol aswell then we're looking at something else.
  9. Ok, just got a rather sharpish reply back from the Eibach shop and they say they dont do the springs for a MK1 GS300. As a matter of fact they say they have never listed that kit. So thats of my list then!
  10. Just got an email back from WRC and as you said, he doesnt do diamond cutting as such. But he can re-do them in any one colour i want. Back to square one with that one me thinks.
  11. Cheers for that randyreindeer, i have had a look through and they too only list springs from 1997 models upwards. Have sent them an email, lets see what they say.
  12. Hi A couple of questions for yourself:- Do the revs fluctuate up and down at idle aswell? Or does it idle solid at 750rpm or there abouts? Does it do this when its cold, when warm or all the time? What LPG system have you got fitted and how long has it been fitted? What year/shape GS300 is it?
  13. Keith Dont mean to sound funny mate, but are you SURE you get them back "to oem finish"? Does that include the little lines left by the diamond cutting process? And do they still keep the 2 colours, the high power silver/chrome on the actual spokes and the anthracite type colour on the rest of the wheel? The main problem with mine is the lacquer coming off. But no one iv spoken to so far can get the finish back to standard (minus the little lines) for less than £400. One was not really willing to try, thanks to him for being honest. And then one suggested there was no way on earth they were ever gona look anything like new again as they were too hard to do, and that kind of put me off. Keith - Is there any chance of getting a picture of your wheel/wheels mate? Cheers. Are your wheels the 5 spoke design normally found on the IS200? I never knew they were diamond cut. Unless your talking about a different wheel. And how much did it cost you at WRC? I dont mind losing the diamond cut lines but the finish must be as close as possible in terms of colour.
  14. Hello all After getting a set of the TTE 18" rims i wanted them refurbed. I got an over-the-phone price off a company up here who said roughly £50 a rim. Not bad. However when i took them i heard about how they are harder due to being diamond cut, 2 different colours, more work blah blah blah. The price then went up to £100 a rim. Not very happy with that. So can any one else recomend a company they may have used to get their set refurbed? Im preferably looking at either Middlesbrough way or even Leeds/Bradford as im down that way every so often. Did they come out looking like originals or did the tiny little lines on the alloys, left by the diamond cutting process, disappear? And above all, how much did it cost? Many thanks for your help.
  15. Yeah i do believe the codes were not factory set, as they can be reset during ownership or cancelled out altogether. Im not too sure about the code being the last FOUR digits of the VIN number as im sure its only a 3 digit code, unless that too can be changed. If you cant get it too work then make sure you dont try more than 9 times as that will lock it out for good. You also wont have to take it out as i believe mine has been recovered at some point as its written down in the owners manual and then on a seperate card a few years later from an audio place. So im assuming the last owner needed the code after the battery died or something, didnt look in the owners manual but took it to a car audio place and they must have got it back for him. Theres quite a few ways mate, dont lose hope just yet.
  16. Hi Jim and Welcome. You have 2 options for retrieving your code. 1. You can go to a car audio place and they can retrive it for you. You will need to pay for this, standard is about £10, though you can pay upto £20. Not having been in Middlesbrough too long myself i dont know where you can go, i only know a place in Darlington. 2. Take the car to Lexus and tell them what the problem is, they MAY ask you for the V5 of the car. They can normally retrieve the code through the VIN number on the chassis. If you cant take your car then just take your VIN number and they should be able to help you out. There MAY be a charge for this service. I remember my uncle lost his code on his Passat, took it to VW and they got it back for him next day free of charge, and he didnt need to leave the car there either. I think your nearest Lexus dealer may be the one on Preston Farm just off the A66. If you need any more help then just let me know mate and il see what i can do.
  17. Is it wobbling and shaking from one end or the middle? If you open your bootlid you will have to take off the cover from under it. I think its only a few plactic pop in rivets that hold it in place. Once off you should be able to get access to the nuts holding the spoiler in place on either side. If its shaking from the middle and the sides are tight then are you sure it isnt cracked any where?
  18. Seems like what ever is sticking is managing to "un-stick" itself. This could be due to the raised temprature in your gearbox or the movement of fluid. Point is though, what on earth in there could be sticking?
  19. This is the thing you see, i cant find them anywhere, apart from in the states which is no good. You dont have a contact number for this place in Wolverhampton do you mate? Or any part numbers etc etc. After doing some research it has come to light that the only difference between the Sport suspension and the normal one is the springs. Fitment is not an issue and they can quite happily be swapped over. Depending on what i can get hold of i might put the whole suspension from a Sport model into mine.
  20. Hello all Trying to lower my 1994 GS300, but hopefully only on springs. Im not a big fan of coilovers anymore and they cost too much anyway. After having searched the archives i found that most people were lowering their GS300's on Eibach springs. Unfortunatly them threads are now old and the links dont work anymore. More unfortunatly i cant find any on the internet. SO . . . . . i was thinking i could hopefully just get the springs from a GS300 Sport and fit them. But obviously the big question is will they actually fit into a normal GS300 of the same shape? I could even possibly get the complete suspension from a MK1 Sport and transfer it into my normal GS300, but again, will it fit? Has anybody done this before, surely there must be someone. Many thanks.
  21. I would agree with Mudzs here, and say it seems more like something sticking rather the ECU not controlling something. If the ECU couldnt get it to go in reverse it would do that in all weathers as its just electrical. Something sticking on the other hand would suggest its more mechanical, and mechanical things can very rarely be affected by the heat/cold. Do this happen when you first start the car or only when the gerabox warms up? Or does it cure itself when the gearbox warms up?
  22. Yeah id check stuff wasnt getting in the way first, then id have a look behind the pedal itself and see where the moving parts are once you press the pedal. You might see something sticking or getting in the way, if you cant then give the moving parts a quick spray of WD40 and see if that makes it any easier. Let us know.
  23. You're telling me what a pain it is, my little light has come on to tell me a bulb has blown out at the back. However i can see all the bulbs working. To try and make sure there wasnt a bad connection anywhere i had to take out ALL the lights at the back. Did this solve my problem . . . . did it hell like! But yeah i see your point, you wouldnt want to be caught out having to change your bulb in the middle of no where on a winters night!!! :o
  24. Hi Ali and Wlecome. Cut off switches generally tend to cut in when the car is involved in an accident. If you've been driving it for 2 months then i dont think its going to be the fuel cut off switch mate, its defo something else. Exactly how is it not starting, what kinda noise is it making whilst trying to start?
