  1. My old s60 had them and never creaked once. I also cant imagine volvo fitting them if they were to compromise safety. Best of all was that the front passenger seat also folded flat for large long loads. (Can't wait for another year so I can get shot of my IS220d sport).
  2. my is220d has left me stranded at the road side for the 4th time. not the ususal fifth injector, which was replaced (again) under recall. this time the particle filter (or something along those lines) was blocked. at least this time it only took 2 days for a repair. apparently this is another modified part. i cant understand why they dont just replace all the modded parts at once. its obviously something they know something about. so if you're having your 220 into the workshop it may be worth asking them to give this filter thing a look over.
  3. i lost mine on the drivers door. lexus swindon were able to order the part. i think it cost about £5. you need to try a different dealer.
  4. Just wondered what others IS's have listed on Sat Nav, POI, Fast food locations. Under this category I have just 1! a pizza hut in gibraltar. I think that is quite random. No wonder I couldn't find anything in the UK.
  5. oh and follow me home lights. i couldnt believe that with all the gizmos the lex has (auto lights, auto wipers, rear cam etc). they dont have follow me home lights. this one was important to me as where i park up is pretty dark. i guess for most people this feature is pretty trivial.
  6. i suppose that's different opinions. my experience has been that the volvo gave me a more refined and quieter ride than my IS. Your experience differs. But that doesn't give you the right to claim that your experience is more valid than mine. And my old t5 was on the skinny wheels. Maybe it ws the petrol that made it much more refined, but as i said, the dash never creaked in the volvo. As to more space, its easily quantifiable that the volvo is bigger upfront, not just in the back. Look at headroom, this easily shows this.
  7. I have owned many cars and each time I always choose a different brand. Prior to my is220d i had a volvo s60 t5. Nit quite the comparison you want. I would say that on looks you can get very subjective - personally i would put the exteriors of each cars equal. And quite a few japanese cars are getting the is220 look. Inside - well the dash on the lex beats the volvo hands down, especially when you have the toys fitted. The volvo always looked like it was made of bits and you could see the joins on the bits. However the volvo is way more confotrable than the lex, in terms of cabin noise, seats (oh how i miss those volvo seats) and space. The s60 wins hands down on space. In that my wife could easily turn around and help the kids out in the back (picking up tous etc). In the lex, no way. Also i really miss the volvos ability to fold flat the rear seats. And dont forget the volvo also lets you fold flat that front seat for extra long loads. In the volvo i never had to worry about going to ikea. in the lex itw always a 'will it fit' question. The lex dash creaks a fair bit, never had that on the volvo. I know people say the lkex sound system is great (you can fit an ipod no worries) but i had the upgraded volvo sound system and it kicks the arse of the lex. Reliability - well after 3 months of ownership my lex had the dreaded dielsel problem and was of the road for a month until the part became available. It broke down twice prior to this leaving the wife stranded on the motorway a couple of times. I will never go in the lex without a fully charged mobile. I never had an reliabaility issues with the volvo - i suppose thats what you get for buying an older car were he problems are itoned out. There are reports of the lex dielsel suffering the same dreaded coking problems as the toyotas, search this forum for auto express and you will find the thread. I have said this before, but out of all the brands I had, the volvo is the one i will be returning to.
  8. i think we came from the same route. i miss that s60 T5. Can't wait to see what the replacement looks like. My is220 was a toss up with the new s80. I fancied a change.
  9. is220d sport - computer says 32mpg. mixture of motorways and city. mostly motorway though. dont usually go above 80 on the motorway. in town all speed limits respected. using any kind of diesel - not noticed any difference between any of the many brands. and a fair bit of oil too. (5th injector replaced a while back - only difference i noticed that the car then went above 20mph :-)
  10. how i laughed at that one! i thought everyone with a 220d had the 5th injector replaced. Mines had the 5th injector replaced, shortly due a 30k service. i wonder if i should ask for the engone to be decoked.
  11. What kind of oil should i be using in an is220d? I have looked in the owners manual and found the relevant section. But when I went to Halfords nothing seemed to match the grades the manual recommends. Despite Halfords having more oil then Iraq. Currently I am using this: Make LEXUS Model IS220d 2.2 16V Engine DT Year 2005- Application Recommendation Capacity (ltr) Links Engine (DT) Castrol's best oil for your vehicle EDGE TURBO DIESEL 0W-30 As recommended by the Castrol web site. The IS220d appears top be getting through oil quite quickly. It's done about 18k miles. So what is everyone else using and how often do you top up?
  12. never had an issue with such lights draining a battery on previous cars. Its just that when you park in a garage, you open the door, get out, lock the door, you are then plunged into darkness. If lexus were worried about battery life then why put those lights in the door mirrors that turn on when you approach. Just feels like they haven't thought it all through. I would have thought that given all the gizmos in the car, these little things would have been a no brainer.
  13. just wondered. I noticed that my passenger seat goes lower than the drivers seat. Is this normal? And why?
  14. just wondered if there was a setting anywhere for 'follow me home' lights. When I get out of the car I would like the headlamps to stay on for a short while. Previous few cars have done this. Lexus just turns of the lights after shutting the drivers door. Wondered if it was an option somewhere. Thanks
  15. some git has removed the boot badge from my car and in the process has left a 3 or four deep scrathes. The scratches are about 2 - 3cm in length, and go through to the primer and looks like metal work too. No point calling police cause they aint ever going to find who did it. Also I reckon my insurance excess is 500. What's the best way going about getting the scratches repaired? Should I ring up a lexus dealer - would they just farm the work out to a body shop anyway? Seriously why would anyone wnat a blinkin lexus badge. At the same time looks like they tried to nick the tyre caps again.
  16. My first IS... wonderful to look at from the outside. A very nice looking car that makes me look twice. inside again the dash area is good, toys fantastic..... but, this will be my first and last lexus. main reasons? build quality that leads me to have no faith in the car repair times that take ages. dealers who forget car collections. and compared to my last car.... performance, didnt quite realise how much I would miss that T5 engine comfort, out of all the cars I have owned my previous volvo (s60) just was the most comfortable I have ever been in. I have never owned the same marque car more than once. When I chose the lexus I decided on it over the new volvo S80. I know when the lease on this one is over I will be returning to volvo, who will have a new s60 out by then.
  17. not so much an easter egg as its in the manual. Now when I try and get it back all I end up with is the windows rolling down. I guess its try and try again!
  18. well i turned this on. so that only the drivers door unlocks when i touch the handle. But for the life of me I can't get back to how it is by default - all doors unlocking. Anyone know the magic touch?
  19. I wonder what the definitive answer is then. We have some cars that don't notify (maybe mine would have if I had waited a bit longer?) We appear to have some cars that notify... Mine is an 07 model so I think it's the latest iteration.
  20. blimey, first car i have had in 8 years that hasn't told me when a service is due. all that technology!
  21. Hi all, does the IS notify you of when it needs a service? Mine has just done 10K and thought that was the service interval.
  22. welcome to the fifth injector failed club. You may find that parts are available straight away now. Some of us had to wait for over a month whilst the part was redesigned. You may quite a few is220ds at the dealer with the same problem. There are a few threads on this forum already on this. If you call out the RAC they may 'reboot' the car. However it won't be long before its in safe mode again. Call Lexus assist and get the car recovered. Insist on a like for like replacement whilst yours is of the road otherwise you may find yourself in an astra for a month. And on the M4, that's were mine decided to pack in too.
  23. Remembered, not wondered. Choice was down to company car lists and limits on engine sizes. Also company car tax, the v6 would be a lot heftier than the diesel. Bizarre as my last car had 60bhp more than the 250, but because it was acheived through a turbo it was allowed.
