  1. Answer NO £30 spring and one hours garage labour(£50). Get spring from local motor factors and local garage to fit. baz.
  2. If you need to check a car out then send me a PM or I'll help you find one as you live here in Swansea like me.
  3. Well Mate been sometime since I first read this problem with your car and had to log on and say that all along the car had no fault in the end. Problem was man made by a dumd trainee doing a service earlier in its life. Just proves that sometimes no service histroy or very little histroycan be a good thing as you know no one has been messing around with it(Hehe). Glad it's now sorted. And as I mentioned guys at Thor are top guys as my previous experience though the Jap Racing circles. Happy new year. Baz.

  5. Have recently sold my LS400 1993 model so selling off the full works manuals from Lexus as no longer needed. Stuck them on Ebay with two days to go. Highest bidder wins. If you have a 1993 model then these are the books for you. Baz. Ebay Item number Edited by Steve2006 Reason Non Gold Selling
  6. I can answer this as some hoddie tried to remove my flat windscreen wipers last week on one of my ls's(1999 version) and ended up breaking the arm off which in turn slammed down on the windscreen and cracked it. I was annoyed to say the least as they destroy what they wanted and ended up costing me pounds and pounds for something costing £2 off ebay. I would have bought them a set too stop them causing the damage. First quote was a new wiper arm from lexus at £170 and a windscreen for £700. So phoned around my garage buddies and found a pair of front used wipers arms for £27 with postage to the house, That sorted. So tried Autoglass and they wanted £588 all in. Stuff that, So phoned around again. Phoned Auto windscreens who done the job for £266 all in next working day. I could have got one fitted for around £166 later but needed it done. Autoglass are ripoff's, But found Auto Windscreens all ok. They did say they can removed the LS windscreens intact but have to wire cut it. Does take time but you can get them out intact. All other ways will end up cracking the glass(bonded in) if you're looking for a scrap one. They took under an hour with a hours waiting for the bounding to set before driving. So my advice is too shop around for price first as I found autoglass a little steep. Baz.
  7. Try replacing these first. From PRI Racing. Toyota - Rear - Differential Pinion Mount Bushes 4 bushes, 2 washers. Upper is replacement bushes, lower is insert to original rubber bushes Part No. SPF2769K Baz.
  8. Can you do me a favour and open the fuse box in the and remove the EF1(20amp) fuse to clear the error codes held within the ecu for more than 10 seconds or more. Put back in and go for a run and after a few miles read the new codes. Also tell me when the car hits the fault of 4000 for the first time after clearing the codes does the engine check light flash once or light up until you take the key out. After reading the above does the car when free wheeling at speed allow you to put the gears into N and allow you to rev past the 4000 and then go back into drive D and try again and still hits the 4000 limit. Hopefully you'll know what I mean. Baz.
  9. First thing get some wd40 and spray these points. The ball joint on the upper arm. You can get at this through the space above the front wheel and wing. Then go our a little drive and see if the squeak is still there. If the squeak is still there go for a drive over some speed humps slowly and when the car lands the top mounts will squeak if they are too dry from over the years. Then just squirt around the top bush on the suspension from inside the bonnet. Can't miss these. Go for a drive over the same humps and see if it's gone. IF so then you will need to grease them up at a later date to remove the squeak for a longer period as wd40 is only temp short fix or replace the top bushes with new ones. Baz.
  10. REVS ARE LOW. I know it sounds strange but for some reason on the early models you sometimes find the water circulating is slow getting the hot water around the system on start up. If you don't blip the throttle over 3,000 revs or above while driving witin a mile or so to get the full flow of water and the water pump to get really moving. If you are a careful light footed driver who does keeps the revs under 3,000 until it's fully warm, Then try what I mentioned next time out in the morning. Give it a little blip for 50 to 100 yards after going a mile and this should sort out the heat in the cabin. I'm lucky that I have a little straight about a mile from my house on the way to work that I can have a little burst to start feeling the heat inside the cabin on a cold morning. Baz.
  11. Right I'm letting go my custom made air cone intake bracket which does fit the UK MAF meters correctly unlike the other one on ebay that doesn't line up the screw holes and has gaps top and bottom. This one does fit the 1990-1994 models. This item takes a 73mm cone which you can buy anywhere from ebay or tuning shop for around £10 plus. The bracket is designed to take the wide air cone design or the long narrow stlye. Your choice. Item is no longer required(bought an APEXi Unit kit) and once gone it's gone. If you want/need this to replace the standard box and have a woooshing noise of the cone of a V8. It does turn heads when you have a cone sucking in gallons of air into a V8. There's no reserve nad on ebay. 5 days left from posting this. No buy it now. It ends when it does. Item number: 330608099194 Ebay selling Title LS400 1990-1994 Air intake bracket. Baz.
  12. Look mate I'm telling you in all my years with motor car and motorsport experience its the MAF meter or MAF meter related. When you put your foot to the floor the ecu is not getting the information into the ecu and not correcting the air mixture to burn the fuel and give you power. These things you should do. A) Change to a different MAF meter. Problem still there Yes then goto B. B) Check wiring on the MAF connector and then check there's no break through wiring to the ECU coinnector. If all good then goto C. C) Check there has never been water damage in car as the ecu gets white corrosion on the connector to the green mother board. Resolder connections if required. If problem still there goto D. Change ECU. If problem still there goto E. Get Auto Electrician to check the wiring to MAF and voltage to ecu when preesing throttle. This should then show you the fault. Baz.
  13. None of this will fix your rev problem MAF meter all the way. Faulty when under load of the throttle. This problem will not show up in any garage which include lexus dealer unless they go out on the road with a laptop inside the car while driving full stop. Just a quick second thought what work if any was carried out before the fault or did it just happen overnight while driving? Also don't scrap, I'll have it with the problem if car is in ok condition. Baz.
  14. I've jusy answer this in the other thread as didn't see this thread aswell. Firstly it's NOT A MISS. Reason it's a V8 and unless you have four misses then power won't change that much or the rev limit. If it was a miss you would be ticking over with a miss or have it on first start up when the leads are damp before they warm up and clear the damp and the miss(Two miles into a journey). As you hit the throttle it becomes an under load problem. Air/ Fuel mixture or if it was a turbo car then it would be an air leak somewhere. Try Mass Air Flow meter. Baz.
  15. Just checking what do you need to do. If it's just changing the rear shocks I'll give you the info with pictures if required.
  16. Hello. I have a 1995 ls400 and mine was the same...After numerous enquiries I was told that they have some form of rev limiter on them, so they cant be over reved...Try it whilst under driving conditions, I think you will find its ok and will rev far beyond the 4000..Anyway mine ok now so its worth a try.....Hope it works for you ...Cheers Roy. Thanks Roy, it will drift up to a reasonable speed but there is no way its performance is normal: When you floor the throttle, the GB shifts down and the car won't accelerate, it won't go past 4000 RPM, if you lift off it will change up and the slowly accelerate. Weird... Just seen this thread. Mass airflow meter. It's not letting enough air into the engine when under load(Throttle to the floor) and staving the car of the right air ratio to burn the fuel and give you power and flooding the engine and bogging it down. Not sure on the 1997 model but it maybe the same mass aifflow as a supra, Know of anybody local you could try swap to see if it works. It could also be in limp home mode as it has a problem. Just plug into it at a local garage(around £30) or you can buy the plug in unit off an ebay seller for around £180, There's one based in Swansea off ebay that does them. Baz.
  17. Here's an update on this problem Had new key cut from lexus coventry too which fitted all the locks but needed to be programmed in at Lexus Cardiff for the security system to alow to start the car. Went down and they manged to get the key to start but were unable toto get the central locking wi fi system too work as they state they are unable to connect with the car for the key to be programmed in. Anybody else had that problem in the past?????????? No communication? Anyway I was happy the new key started the car and went about changing the battery in the old remote to see if that was the problem in the first place. Changed the battery and since then the car opens and shuts like it's designed to even in the mornings as when the problem shows up. Have now swapped over the transponders so I have one fully working key but still need to get the other new transponder coded to the car. I need to check out why the car doesn't communicate. So will investagate further. I might just buy the coding Toyota/Lexus unit box for £180 and do it myself. Baz.
  18. Update on this. Put new battery(£126) in car as the one in the car was not upto much and not the spec for the car. Now got full power the stereo sounds much better but didn't fix the problem. Anyway had a look at the keyfod inside and there is a small crack on the transponder part so didn't go any further in changing the fob battery incase it fell apart on opening. Got new key(£115) coming from Lexus to finally to see if it was the remote. Hopefully that will sort it out and it was the key fob. Also did buy one of those transponder remotes on ebay that can be programmed to the car along as you have a master key with you. So does anybody know how to program to the car as didn't get the instructions with the parcel and seller not got back to me yet and want to try tonight. Anyone Know? Baz.
  19. Right got a problem with the LS400 1998 model. Leave the car overnight and the remote stops working in the morning and the alarm light is on in the car. Got to open door with key, Alarm goes off and then have to use key in igntion to stop alarm. Once I've got to where I've got to the remote works perfectly everytime allowing me to open close open close time after time with the remote. Once I leave it overnight the remote stops working and back in the same boat. So don't know if this is a cold hot thing as the remote works when the car engine is hot or because it's getting a charge from the alternator which allows me to use the remote correctly just after stopping. Have charged the battery and it's shooting out around 12.7 Volts on the meter. Is that correct for a 1998 model??? Have planned to try the battery from my other LS to see if that's better. Have see quite a few threads about this but nobody has come back with the answer or fix they used. Any ideas? Baz.
  20. Funny thing about this is I bought my mother a ls400 1999 model to run around in and since ownership I have removed two of these dust shields because they have rusted badly but the area around them is OK. Funny thing my ls400 from 1993 which has covered twice as many miles(200k plus) has no such problems with the brake shields. Baz.
  21. Not questioning you beavis But the bulb in the drivers footwell certainly looks smaller (thinner) than T10. Can anyone confirm size and more so fitting type as I don't want to force and break it in hole !! thanks ... Been coverered before including the dash and centre surrond buttons. You can get them all off ebay for really a few pounds. I think I did the air con heater controls and the centre dash buttons for around 10.00 from USA Ebay seller. Then fitted a blue LED panal style in the footwells which makes the area much brighter. Also fitted the Blue LED panal into the roof curtesy light when getting in which are also found on ebay for around £10 each. They have got universal fittings. Quite easy to do. As for the boot, Could be electrics for towing. Baz.
  22. I've covered the bushes before in a thread in the suspension section about these. Top tip is to take the rear arms off and do both ends of each arm with new bushes not just the ends ones. You'll see it saves you alot of time in the long run. As they are old you can either take the arms to a local gargage and get them to press out the old bushes(Easy way)or with a good vice and hammer and pointed chisel work around the old push bending in the outer metal ring. Once most of it is pointing inwards it should be easier to hit out. Soak in some WD40 also helps or something like that. Last resort burn them out with a welding torch. Clean up the holes with sand paper and the new poly bushes will fly in with a little grease. Top tip is too fit some strut braces front and rear as that transforms the car around corners compared to standard. Baz.
  23. I'll try the half way window down and up in the morning. Plugged into the ecu and reset the airbag light as it was a very old fault. The fault was for both sides of the main dash airbags. Light now out and everything ok. Just got squeaking brake pads which are blue print make so going to change them along with giving the car a really good service which includes plug oils and filters. The car came with histroy stamps some lexus but the oils and filters are black. Burnt transmission oil along with the pollen filter being very black and the air filter. Have got the window washer fault but that have been covered before and seems the float is stuck up the one end.
  24. I picked this up from another site. "It sounds like the normal 'stop position' function has died, so the window is overtravelling, and then when it hits the end of the available travel, the overcurrent (anti trapping) device is being triggered by the excess current, and operating the 'bounce back' function. This is designed to stop the window from garotting children with the window (or traffic wardens!)" They fixed the problem by resetting the system, So how do you do it on this model of Lexus?
