  1. I had a set of Nokian All Season all round, and found them absolutely excellent in the wet. But because the front pair wore down very bad, despite being tracked, balanced etc, I replaced them with 2 Michelin Cross Climates (largely due to the support on this forum). However in the last big storm in August I found they aquaplaned 3 times on heavy motorway rain. It is fair as someone said, slow down, but I have never had that happen in 4 years with the Nokian - and always felt completely safe on them in the wet.
  2. + 1 on the Vaseline. I suggested it almost 4 years ago, when it worked for me on my RX. Haven't had to apply it since !
  3. Many thanks for all the replies, I am certainly glad I asked the question! I had always thought that this was the case, but could find no written proof. It is surprising that the 450H Owners Manual does not refer to it. Thanks again.
  4. Quick question. I thought I had read somewhere - in the Owner's Manual - that you should not use a Hybrid Lexus to jump start another car. I have searched the Manual inside out (and this site) and I cannot find any reference to it. (I wonder was this in the 400h manual?). Of course the Manual gives instructions on how to use another car to jump-start the 450H. So does it follow - is it safe to use the Hybrid Lexus to jump start another car that has a discharged battery???
  5. I read somewhere that Black is the absence of any colour, and that white is the presence of all colour! I have to say I am very happy with my Arctic Pearl, especially after 12 years with a black RX, and it is so much easier to keep clean. I did like it in black when polished, but it showed every mark. Only little gripe, it proved impossible to find one with cream leather, as I think it looks so much smarter.
  6. Try Vaseline - it worked for me.
  7. Hi, Absolutely not. That particular sensor has been working as intended since. My initial thought before I tried it was, should I dry out the sensor with a hair-dryer first, but luckily I didn't (I wasn't brave enough to turn a hair-dryer onto it), as obviously there is enough free air circulation at the back of the sensor to let it dry out. Again, all that was needed was the smallest amount of vaseline, around the edge of the circle of the sensor & genuinely rub off any vaseline you can see - there is no need to smear or cover the whole sensor.
  8. Hi, I had the very same issue, intermittently for three or four weeks, almost a year ago. It was one particular rear sensor and also happened after heavy rainfall. I read a solution online to put the smallest bit of vaseline on a cloth, rub it well onto the particular sensor and then rub off any excess vaseline. I applied it like this and it cured it, and I haven't had a problem since! It is clearly caused by a build-up of moisture in the sensor after heavy rain and the tiniest bit of vaseline stops it.
  9. Just fitted a set of Nokian Weatherproof all-season. Had a set previously, unrivalled on snow & ice, and unreal on the wet. Made in Nokia, Finland where they have snow & ice for 80% of the year. Very long wearing, a Premium tyre, very quiet (a necessity with the hushed 450H!). I fully understand that Michelin Cross Climate must be performing well, as they are so popular here, and they must well equal the Nokian Weatherproof but find it hard to believe they could surpass them. I have heard great reports of Michelin, as i-s states " Michelin's current design ethos about maintaining tyre performance as they wear. ......, when worn down to 2mm the Michelin will in fact out-perform it because the Michelin maintains performance better ", and would love to hear from anyone that got to the end of both the Nokian Weatherproof and the Michelin Cross Climates - as I never got to the end of my previous Nokians, as I changed the car before that.
  10. The very same happened my 2013 RX last November. Every time I put the car in reverse, the rear left sensor activated, even though there was no obstruction behind the car. I ordered a replacement sensor online (from China - ebay !) Whilst waiting for the new sensor to arrive, I read a tip online, and it may help someone out with a similar problem - smear vaseline gently over the faulty sensor, and rub off any excess. It cured the problem for me, the new sensor arrived - and I have never had to fit it - as the existing sensor has worked perfectly since, despite power-washing the car (carefully) several times !
  11. What you are showing here is the details of your "Software Update", and the I.D. for that; which is different to your map update version. What you need to find is MAP DATA, if you search in under NAVI, or under SETUP > NAVi, you will find the details of your current version in this format:- " MAP DATA Map Version: 02 – 12 – 52 [2012 – 06 – 2]" At least you will be able to check the date of your previous update - (as above - that had been updated 02/06/2012.) I believe, as with the 2013 model, that your car will have the Multimedia Device:- EMVN Premium Navigation. As such, this version is not available on the https://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/Shop/Index - as it will tell you "to obtain, contact your dealer". Take my word for it, for this model car, don't waste your time and money buying a 'spare' DVD from ebay, as with this system Lexus has (to me) an ultra-secure install - you will need a unique License number, generated by Lexus, unique to the car and the DVD. The bottom line is, the genuine Lexus Update is expensive, but this is an expensive car - £50K + new. I believe the Navigation system is an integral part of the car, and as such the update was worth doing for me. If your Map Update version is the original (it could be showing a date in 2013), and if you will get benefit from the many detailed map updates over the last 5 years, it may be worthwhile for you. Some Lexus dealers will do the update at slightly better prices, so it is no harm checking around.
  12. Sold a 2006 RX400h recently, after 12 years, with 188,000 miles (obviously just pipped here by trouthead!). 101k is only a baby! No major problems, other than the dreaded Inverter failure in 2011 which had to be replaced. No other issues bar replacing brake discs, the first few times covered under warranty. the car left in excellent condition with that mileage - many more miles left in it!
  13. Hi Spottedlaurel, Having bought a 2013 RX450H Premier with 47k miles two months ago, these are just some of my views. First off, I couldn't be happier with the car itself, having come up from a 2006 RX400h that I had for 12 years and put over 188,000 miles on. Not that I was unhappy with the 400h - but I find the 450 a big step up in every way. Rock solid on the road - feels heavier but planted. Amazingly comfortable seats, heated working well at the moment - and like you looking forward to warm weather to test out the ventilated cooling! All the info / electrics really upgraded, M/L stereo excellent. Love the heads-up display (speedo now irrelevant), and the LED lights are superb. On your two stipulations:- Air Suspension, I like you was afraid of this from the little snippets I had read, but with detailed research including Club Lexus USA, the real problems seem to be on 2003 & 2004 RX's and little if no problems from the Air S in the series 3 RX450H. This seems to be confirmed by this forum. On the question of White; again like you, I initially would not consider them, but every thing else about this car was right, and the more I compared it with other colours, the more I liked it. Having got the car, I absolutely LOVE the colour and I think it is a nicer stand-out colour than any other RX. Mine is Artic Pearl, a type of pearlescent, or metallic white, that seems to change colour in different light. On services, I believe the next one due is a Major Service at 60k, which Lexus Liverpool kindly carried out pre-delivery (mind you the cost at Lexus would be £750). Overall, I couldn't be happier with the car and highly recommend it.
  14. Moved to 2013 450H Premier a month ago (from '06 400h), all the research I did on this site and others seem to show that there was a problem on the 2003 & 2004 RX 350 with many owners reporting air suspension problems / failures. It seems nowhere as common an issue outside of that time & for that reason I wasn't afraid of trouble with it. Am absolutely delighted with my 450h, after 12 years with 400h - the 450H feels a big step up - heavier, more solid and even more comfortable than the 400h - a joy.
  15. Yes Friso, as a very soon to be 450h owner, I find this very useful. And thanks for the info!
  16. + 1. Have 4 x Nokian Weatherproof 235/55 R18 104 V since May, excellent in the wet (or dry). Lovely thread pattern & hard wearingh.
  17. Yes the 4wd system (that is the 2 rears activate) cuts in and out as required when wheelspin is detected.
  18. Hi LexusRex - Read your post last week and thought it was too good to be true. As you, I have often looked at those T channels & thought it would either be cost-prohibitive or impossible for non residents. Really thought you had it wrong on "2 euro a month for each month it is used" and felt it had to be at least 24 euro per annum. But I did a little research online & it is true! So I ordered it from Sanef last Tues and my new 'MiniBadge' tolltag arrived this Monday. Great service! Roll on the end of June and les Autoroutes libre! Many thanks.
  19. ... confused: is the new 4 disk dvd compatible with the 1 disk earlier model, you just use the relevant disk for your region? If i access the lexus map website its still recommending the November 06 update PZ485-L03EU-06, no hint of any October 07 update... Hucklewoo - www.lexus-mapupdates.eu is now showing the new 2007-2008 Disc. The new update (single) disc for Europe is PZ485-X03EU-07 and this is the new replacement for the '06 disc you quoted above. Cost €159 or about £115 ? in real money.
  20. I had the same problem with my Nokia N80. Car + phone set up correctly & yet for three or four days I had to manually connect each time. I powered off the phone whilst in the car & re-started it & that was it! Each time since the car now automatically recognises the phone.
