  1. I seem to have noticed something about my IS200 which seems to annoy me slightly cos it's embarassing. When i turn the air con or heater on the first bits of air that comes out of the vents smell abit... well... not nice... then after a minute or two it seems to clear and the air is ok and doesn't smell of anything... Does anyone else have the same thing in their Lexus? Does anyone know what it could be?
  2. From what i can see the fuel consumption on your IS300 is exactly the same as ours on the IS200, there's another thread here on fuel consumotion and nearly everyone with an Is200 is qote in that 28-32mpg range, i too get around 21mpg... looking at it at another angle, the 3 liter IS has the same MPG as the 2 liter IS but with more power, surely that's a good thing...
  3. Guys, i think you're being abit harsh on the man. Not everyone likes 'Subtle' I think your all forgetting that the point of modifying a car it's to create YOUR own look/style which is different to other peoples. Think about it, we all bought the Lexus because we all like the look of it but some of us aren't content with the standard look so we add things to the front, sides and rear... next thing you know we will all end up having exactly the same body kit (the one from the dealer's 'optional extras list') and the same car yet again. Could you imagine a world like that? Everyone doing the same job wearing the same grey suit, driving the same car living in the same house... Boring... I don't see anyone dissagreeing to those who installed a turbo or a super charger to their IS200... Ooo no it's much too fast compared to the standard car... Lexus didn't intend for their cars to be fettled like that... CorsaVandal, if you like the spoiler then go for it but might i suggest a bodykit which is just as "loud" as the spoiler otherwise i don't think that just the spoiler alone goes with the lines of the standard car. I'm sorry on my part if i may have upset anyone else with this comment of mine.
  4. Hmm... You don't think there might be a glitch of some sort in the ignition system do you? Is there any way of checking each stage/component of the "Start-Up" Sequence? But saying that, getting a mechanic to check everything for you might not sound cost effective especially if your chasing gremlins... In my experience if you get a mechanic to find an intermitant gremlin, Especially if nothing's ACTUALLY broken, then they tend to guess on a part, replace it then find that it wasn't that part then guess on another part... next thing you know you'r left with a big bill for parts and labour and the Gremlin is still not found... If it were me i would probably dismiss it (i know it's wierd and it's not supposed to happen) but until something is ACTUALLY broken or there is a sign of somthing about to break then there really isn't much to go on... I hope this helps...
  5. 33mpg! :o Damn thats good the best i have ever had from it was 26mpg but unfortunately i've now averaging 21mpg in the past few weeks... My wallet hurts...
  6. Sorry to hear what happened, it really takes the P. You know, if i were in your shoes i would look apon this situation in a different light... This is a great time and opportunity to scratch that Modding itch of yours and replace the standard parts for nicer or better ones... like... i don't know... a carbon bonnet with PHAT vents on it to keep the engine cool or say... a C-West front bumper... and change the front lights to those later spec dark ones... Your car will DEFINITELY be better than what it was...
  7. Sounds like a typical Student dinner... lol Spent all his money on modding the car and that's all he can afford to eat...lol
  8. I've noticed alot of people here say that you should change the 'tensioners' at the same time as the cambelt, my question is... What are the 'tensioners'? what do they do? Why should all us Lexus IS200 owners change them? Of all my years of owning cars this is the first time tensioners are mentioned. On all my previous cars all i have ever needed to change is the cambelt during my Service interval. Isn't this just a 'glorified' Toyota? from what i've seen there are many parts on a Lexus which are shared by a few other models in the Toyota range, how comes they don't need to change the tensioners?
  9. Hmm... I see someone's saving up for an IS-F...
  10. Now, now, you shouldn't look at it like that. The Lexus has yet again made it's owner a very happy man... You never know, the new owner of the Lexus will probably become a new member to the club... I have the distinct impression that one of the previous owners to my Granite Grey IS200SE who owned the car for a good 6 and a half years was once a member of this club... It was soo well kept with EVERY reciept and invoice for EVERYTHING from the car's birth to present day... now i'm the new owner and here i am... you could say it's gone full circle.
  11. is it only the front tyres i should be worried about or does the rear tyres wear on the inside too?
  12. Hi all, I would like to know if everyone has the right colour written on all their documents, i have a IS200SE in "Granite Sky" but i've noticed on my V5 document and all other paperwork it shows the car as being "Silver" I mean, it's blatently obvious by physically looking at the car to know that it's not Silver, hell if you don't want to state that it's "Granite Sky" (which no-one would have the slightest idea what colour Granite Sky actually is) then why don't it just say "GREY" because it's Grey and NOT Silver! If my grey car is Silver then what colour would a silver car be? Blue? I can understand why the manufacturers may name the're paint Granite Sky, to make it sound more exciting and glamourous than it really is because lets face it how exciting does "GREY" sound? but when the car needs to be categorised into a colour category then wouldn't it be relatively simple?
  13. Hi Mikey47, I was just looking on the site for any references to a cambelt change and service in the Southend Lexus cos i've recently bought my IS200 and i seem to be compelled to keep up the LEXUS service record just because you kinda feel that it's not 'just another car', it a Lexus. My cars's coming up to 100K miles and is due for a major service, i was thinking wether it was worth taking it to Southend Lexus... but seeing how much others pay in the main dealers, i might stick with my local garage. I've been taking my last 3 previous cars to Goodwin Motors in Great Wakering for the past 9 years now and they've proved very good, they charge £30 an hour labour and the guy Lenny who works there explains to you exactly what's gone wrong, how it works and how he plans to fix it. You could always pop down there and see, at the end of the day you're not obligated to use them so just get a quote from them first, tell 'em Sang recommended them to you. Or if you like you could hold off until i let them try their hands on my Lexus first then they can firmiliarise themselves with the workings of the IS200 so to speak...
  14. I heard that there are companies that can repair scratches, dent's and chips easily without the need to spray the entire panel like Chipsaway, google it and find your local Chipsaway and see if they can help. p.s. my previous post was a joke, thought i'd throw a bit of humour at a dull moment...
  15. maybe a 'flame' decal running along the side of the car, it'll kill 2 birds with one stone. It'll give it that Hot Rod look It'll cover the scratch.
  16. Here's another question to throw at anyone who knows the answer, I have an 1999 SE to and i have noticed that the front side windows are slightly tinted already, some may not notice but if you open the door and look at the sky through the door window you will notice it has a slight green tint to it. I thinkk most cars are like this cos my '96 Celica GT was like this (i found out when the police stopped me becuase of my tints on the front), so my question is this, can you still tint the front sides so that it's dark/smoked and still stay within the legal limits of the law?
  17. Maybe that's what he was aiming for... First use the tyres for the streets and once they've gone 'slick' you hit the race circuit... could you imagine the cornering ability? it'll be like the IS is on Rails... lol
