  1. I hardly ever visit the forum nomore since i moved to a new job and new area. Now that i don't have a drive, i don't pay as much attention as i would like to (or wash and wax my car once every 2 weeks like i used to) when i was at my old place about year ago. I was around when funtimephil first joined. I still have my lexus, just haven't had time or found a decent place to do work on it, so my interest has dropped alot.

  2. Thanks for the reply guys.

Ormi - Thanks for the heads up, so why on earth would they sell these knowing they will flash faster due to lower resistance?? Is it difficult to fit a load resistor?

    Thanks!

no mate you just bridge the feed to the earth job done..its the same with the tail lights LED bulbs make the wee light on the dash come on..

my mate sells them in his shop but its a bulb kit has the bulbs and the resistors in the pack..

i had to fit the resistors to my pulsing brake lights warning light was doing my nut in.

yes i have that very same problem. Got some LED rear lights. Now the warning light comes on within 2 minutes of driving. At the moment i've just stuck some round tab over the light on the dash so i don't notice it in my view. was thinking of taking out the actual warning lights on my dash so its permanently off! When you say earth it, you don't happen to have an image of it by any chance. I know its only a warning on the dash , but it'll be nice to cure it properly. I don't trust myself with electrics and i would pay to get it done properly.

  3. Hi ppl,

I've been told by the seller that these LEDs are suitable for the IS200:-

    HERE

But i'm not too sure as, reading on the forum, the pins in the rear indicators on the is200 are not offset. So i'm a bit confused. I know the easy way is to open up the rear lights and have a look, but its pouring down outside so i don't want to be playing with electrics when theres water about.

So if someone can let me know if these are right, i'll be greatful!

    Cheers!

  4. Cheers for the reply guys. In the end i bought some Motul DOT5.1 fluid, as it was near price as DOT4 ones from another store. Never knew clutch and brakes can use the same fluid, but i suppose that, it would be logical, as bascially they are required to do the same job.

  5. Hi Guys/Gals

Looking to change my clutch fluid soon (don't think it's ever been changed since ive had the car), is there any specific clutch fluid someone can recommend?

    Thanks!

  6. Wheels are very down to personal taste. But you did ask so i will let you know lol. I never liked fully chromed wheels, i don't mind the ones with chrome in the deep dish ones, but its got to have some other colours on the wheel. I very much got my eye on the 18" version of the Rays ones pictured. But recently also seen the nice imported lexus for sale with the Rota D1s on which are also very nice. But my dream alloys are the ones by Racing harts. When my tyres are worn i will change my alloys to 18". But if i had to choose from your selection i would go for the team dynamics, although it looks very aggessive. The TTe ones would be nicer if it wasn't in fully chromed.

Ones i got my eye on for reference:-

    Dotz

    Racing Hart

....and the Ray ones which have already been posted.

  7. front are diff from the rear mate....the rear is right and the front is wrong, you need to swap the front disks around,ie o/s/f on to the n/s/f and the n/s/f on to the o/s/f

Right after doing hrs and hrs of research, and feedback from store that sold me the discs, i've come to this conclusion:-

Slots/gooves can be installed facing either way, it's down to personal taste, the actual benefit is very little either way for my type of driving style. One way always has advantage over the other.

If the gooves are in the direction like on my first image then this helps throw dust/water away from the disc. (note the gooves cut right into the outside of the disc)

If the discs are installed like image 2 then this helps draw cold air into the disc but in this direction the braking is more agressive, so the pads will wear down tad faster than if they are installed the other way round (this ofcourse depends on your driving style, and how hard you brake etc).

The only exceptions to the rules above are specialist discs (e.g EBC turbo grooved discs) which have curved vanes (vents in the middle of the discs which draw hot air away from disc). These are specific directional rotation and must be installed on a specific side of the car. So basically the curved vanes are piroity importance rather than the direction of the grooves/slots.

The front discs i have are the 3G RS-10 discs, after contacting the manufacturer they said the vanes are not curved, so they can be installed either side of the car. It's down to personally perference. See image below

    3G discs.

    Ferrari-348-Brake-Discs-3.jpg

Now, as the front ones have vanes (not curved, just straight) anyway, which helps cooling, it would make more sense to have the grooves throw out dirt, whilst the rear ones i have have should be placed so the grooves help channel cool air into the disc (it's a soild one piece brake disc).

Obviously, always contact the store/manufacturer if in doubt.

Yes Ormi, when i was at the garage we all thought so too and if it wasn't already 5PM (garage closing time), i would have got the front swopped round. (but after some research im glad i didn't tbh, after seeing the image and feedback). Also as ive had the front discs on for well over 10 months i would have had to swop the pads together with the discs. So by all account i think i will keep the disc the way they are on the car. You know what they say if its not broken don't try and fix it lol.

p.s also installed Goodridge brakelines. Already feel the difference and the rear brakes have not even been beded in yet.

  8. Yep i had the same problem when the garage (non lexus) fitted my new discs (not oem). The garage also noted that my old disc also had this worn groove.

I have to admit i can hear scraping when i'm driving slow with my old (oem) discs. So i told the garage to grind the backplate back a bit. At least now it doesn't grind, only very slightly if i hard turn left i can hear a slight grind, but i can live with that then rather have them grind too much of it away. Probably in time eventually it will wear itself down a tiny bit more and i won't get any scraping at all.

  9. Lo Guys,

Can anyone tell me if my discs are the right way round as i'm not totally convinced the rear ones are correct. I've also posted the front ones just incase. On both images the front of the car is towards the right direction :P

    Excuse the dirty wheels i know it's a sin, but i don't have a drive now :(

    Front

    Rear

I don't have much luck when it comes to rotation direction, when i first got the car from a Lexus garage the front wheels had the wrong rotation on them. So im double checking these from you guys.

Just found this little bit about rotational discs and it would suggest that my discs are correctly installed..i think..

  10. Look similar to a Porsche design!

I looked at them when I was after mine. Only thing im not sure on is the painted on pin stripe!

    Bruce

    Which ones do you mean?

Lenny123 - I've seen them henzo ones too, and wondered what it would look like on a lexus. So cheers for the images. Is it me or is there like huge amount of wheel arch space on the rear? Is yours a '99 lexus? I have a 01 and im sure the space inbetween wheel and wheel arch isn't as much as that.

    Flyis - I don't see any images.

Also wondering, what the good practice is regarding alloys/bodykit/lowering.

Im thinking of doing it this way, bodykit/alloys/struts. I think this way i will get the best idea once the struts go on regarding ride height/road clearence, and there won't be any "guessing" involved or at least minimal.

  11. Hi forum,

Just wondering if anyone has these fitted to their lexus and if anyone knows if Dotz is a reasonalbly realiable alloy manufacturer. Be nice to see images of these on a Lexus as well! Thinking of getting either 18" or 19", not sure which colour yet. Apparently they should fit onto the lexus as standard.

  12. A memorable event was when i was driving on my way home (similar to si_is300) along this stretch of duel carriage going around steady 60mph on the inside lane, then driving by me was this M3. It was a female driver and i could see she slowed down just as she got by the side of me and i could see her passenger laughing, so it was bascially a "come on". Now there's noway im not gonna win this one on the straight, but i put my foot down anyway.

Ofcourse, i could not keep up after a few miles, but as i know the road very well...4 yrs i've been driving along it and i knew ahead was a round about and i always take the first exit and i also know around this time there is always a queue of people on the left side lane and the second lane is usually clear. By the time i caught up with the M3 i could see they was in that queue. So i took the second lane instead and went round the whole round about so i could exit the first exit. The best moment was the fact i went round the round about and i could see them looking me and they knew although i had a much slower car, i was more smart.

    It was a good day.
